I'm 41 and have been a member since I was 30. If you are looking for a place with good prices and no drama then join and whatever city or town you come to you have a relaxing place to be. Some locations have great bands on the weekend and dancing (we like to visit those and just watch the older group dance). Some have food all the time others don't but you just have to check and see. I will never not be a member. It's just too good of deal.

A free wine club with awesome events!…read more I've recently joined the club and been to two events. You get newsletters each month telling you what's going on. They have fancy events and not-so fancy, but they are never pretentious. I always feel comfortable asking questions at the pouring events and have sampled some really great wines. The best event so far was in Woodinville where I got to taste 2-3 wines at 15 wineries for only $15! That's a GREAT deal for us folks who love wine but aren't rolling in the money. All you need to make a great evening is a designated driver!

I was looking up things to do during Labor Day Weekend that wasn't Bumbershoot. The options were…read morefew, since they would be competing with Bumbershoot. I found the The Emerald City Wanderers Volkksport Club because they had a walk on Saturday (Sept 5), called "Celebrate American Labor - a working waterfront walk in the Duwamish Waterway area." It was a non-competitive 10k or 5k walk through West Seattle. My friend and I showed up late, but were able to get a list of instructions for the 5k. It was a nice day so we took in some sights since either of us ever go to West Seattle (and certainly don't go walking around in it). We did get lost a couple times and that was confusing (explaining that we wanted to continue walking and not quit and go home to the volunteers who were picking up their signs) and amusing (hiking up this rocky steep hill to get back on course) and kind of scary (we were at this underpass where there were cars parked with people sleeping/living in them). But the gist of the club is that the members find walks in various neighborhoods, write down instructions and then they have several organized group walks a year. You can also buy a patch ($8) when you complete a walk...which I did. I'm looking forward to getting a sash to hold all my "prizes" (the lady at the check in table kept telling us that we had to return to collect our prize, it was really cute). We would walk again, but probably wouldn't start as late as we did (we were 30mins late). As mentioned earlier, there were spots where it was more shady, perhaps if we were in a group it wouldn't be as scary. Also, I think a few of the instructions were off (a "left" instead of "right") and a bit unclear. We back-tracked a couple times and on the second time, decided to just keep following their signs (there were paper signs and ribbons along the way), sometimes there was no signage for a while other times there were three within eyesight. But the folks were pretty nice and it's something random, easy, fun to do when it's nice out. :)

Result: 3 to 4 will flake. 2 to 3 are rude or drunk. Remainder are overweight and desperate. I did meet 3 women and they all trun out with mental issues. Advise: Attend a sport or hobby club event you personally like and make real friends w zero expectations. Goes a long ways. People are normal and you network for other people as well if they get to know you well. So far I met 3 female friends in 2 weeks with little effort or akwardness on the women. Relationship is not something that occurs overnight and be based on a 8 minute conversation.

The members have a wide range of experience and skill levels. You can work at your own pace - take it slow and observe for a while before jumping in or you can dive in right away with speaking activities. I joined Toastmasters to help get over nerves with public speaking, and to practice speaking in front of groups in both a professional setting and non-work setting (e.g. officiating a wedding). I have gotten much more out of the club than just getting over nerves. I feel more relaxed with presenting, but I also feel more confident putting together presentations and giving feedback to others. If you are thinking of joining a club - you can come as a guest a few times to figure out if this is a good fit for you.

I was looking for a club that had a genuine warmth, a big heart and a robust and diverse membership in terms of age, race and life goals. My search ended with Seattle Sunrise. Since then the club lost its home at NW Hospital and relocated to Merrill Gardens near UW. Now with the pandemic, the club meets on Zoom. It continues welcoming new members and continues it long history of earning a distinguished club status through Toastmasters International. New members say they like the website. See what you think.

I went for a private social event. The parking in this neighborhood is practically non-existent…read more But, I got lucky tonight. The location is great - right on the water. (if you're attending a summer event and can be outside, or it's before sunset.) The bar seems to have lots of options, but no prices listed. So, it's a roll of the dice. "Market price" for a wine pour, I guess. Plus, they add an automatic gratuity. (Be sure to read the fine print) THEN, the card swipe machine asks you for an additional tip! This place hasn't been remodeled or updated in what seems like 50+ years. I hope to never return.

Sharing a perspective as a member…read more... My husband and I joined the College Club this summer and have nothing but great things to say about our experience. I was initially attracted to the idea of the social club. The lounge, which has a traditional college pub feel, includes a pool table, shuffleboard, a large flat screen, and lots of seating - a great space for hanging out. The venue which consists on two floating vessels has a large dock off the back. We were blown away by how much fun the dock has been. On nice summer days, we would come down for a couple of hours and lounge/lay out on the dock or hop in the water and swim for a bit. There are number of singles, couples, and families so it brings a nice balance of people. (We don't have kids but I've always thought this is the perfect club for those who do - without being too annoying for those of us who don't.) Also throughout the summer, they do Wednesday happy hours and a fun outdoor Thursday night concert series on the dock. I've talked to a number of serious rowers who enjoy the club for the boat access. My husband and I aren't rowers but to our surprise, we've had a lot of fun taking out kayaks (and paddle boards) - both with free access as a part of the membership. The gym isn't fancy but it's clean and has some good equipment (stationary bikes, rowing machines, weights). There are never more than a few people in the gym at once. I've liked it so much that I canceled another gym membership and only come here now. I wasn't sure if this would be a better "summertime" club but we've enjoyed into the colder months. In addition to my ongoing use of the gym, they offer fun social events like college football viewing parties and wine tasting events. Lastly, I have nothing but great things to say about the staff. They genuinely care about their members and have helped create a warm and welcoming environment. They really help set the tone for the overall feel of the club, especially for the social events. I'm glad we made the choice to join. It's been a great addition for us.
