+1 - Cost. Competitively priced drinks and food. +1 -…read moreThemed days including "Taco Tuesdays", "Movie Night", "Bingo", "Poker", et al. +1 - Staff. The staff, excluding the bartenders who receive gratuities, volunteer their time. +1 - Charity. There are numerous opportunities to support the community through fund drives. The +1 - Hours. Because volunteers staff this location, like most locations, the hours are perfect for those seeking an after-work cocktail or beer. Background. Depending on the bartender, your first or next visit might be a mixed bag of customer service expectations. Specifically. If the bar is pretty much empty, and the bartender sees this, they might take a smoke break or use the bathroom. This doesn't apply to everyone, but remember it if you're ever alone. Again, unpaid staff support this establishment. Regarding the food options, you are allowed to bring in your own food, provided it's not during a theme night. Examples included Baked Potato Night, Initiation Night, Taco Tuesday, a hosted Seahawks watch party, or any random theme night that features a menu item. Drink values are pretty equitable, as they are based on having a volunteer staff. They aren't dirt cheap, but you won't be paying for a pint or shot like you should if you were downtown or in one of the more populated neighborhoods (see Capitol Hill, Ballard, Greenwood, etc.). Entertainment. Depending on the evening, you might be invited to participate in Trivia Night, watch the latest movie, play some poker, or support the club via Bingo night. Overall, your expectations should be more like visiting family and less like visiting a 4 or 5 star restaurant. Finally, whenever possible, be sure to tip the kitchen staff directly, as they don't receive any cash compensation. If you are a non-member, you're encouraged to be a guest of a member and consider registering for an annual membership. As always, your individual experience will vary.

If you are looking for a place with good prices and no drama then join and whatever city or town you come to you have a relaxing place to be. Some locations have great bands on the weekend and dancing (we like to visit those and just watch the older group dance). Some have food all the time others don't but you just have to check and see. I will never not be a member. It's just too good of deal.

I was looking up things to do during Labor Day Weekend that wasn't Bumbershoot. The options were…read morefew, since they would be competing with Bumbershoot. I found the The Emerald City Wanderers Volkksport Club because they had a walk on Saturday (Sept 5), called "Celebrate American Labor - a working waterfront walk in the Duwamish Waterway area." It was a non-competitive 10k or 5k walk through West Seattle. My friend and I showed up late, but were able to get a list of instructions for the 5k. It was a nice day so we took in some sights since either of us ever go to West Seattle (and certainly don't go walking around in it). We did get lost a couple times and that was confusing (explaining that we wanted to continue walking and not quit and go home to the volunteers who were picking up their signs) and amusing (hiking up this rocky steep hill to get back on course) and kind of scary (we were at this underpass where there were cars parked with people sleeping/living in them). But the gist of the club is that the members find walks in various neighborhoods, write down instructions and then they have several organized group walks a year. You can also buy a patch ($8) when you complete a walk...which I did. I'm looking forward to getting a sash to hold all my "prizes" (the lady at the check in table kept telling us that we had to return to collect our prize, it was really cute). We would walk again, but probably wouldn't start as late as we did (we were 30mins late). As mentioned earlier, there were spots where it was more shady, perhaps if we were in a group it wouldn't be as scary. Also, I think a few of the instructions were off (a "left" instead of "right") and a bit unclear. We back-tracked a couple times and on the second time, decided to just keep following their signs (there were paper signs and ribbons along the way), sometimes there was no signage for a while other times there were three within eyesight. But the folks were pretty nice and it's something random, easy, fun to do when it's nice out. :)

Love the time portal and the community feel here. The cocktails might not be awesome, but for the price they're fine, and if you stick to something basic you'll be happy. Pretty meat-heavy menu, but they do have a veggie burger I haven't tried yet, and a quesadilla and other snacky apps in the bar. Their jalapeno poppers are great. And their salad comes adorned with cheez-its which I find charming. Plus they have popcorn! Wish I'd stumbled in here years sooner. I hear their days are numbered, and I plan to come in as often as possible until that fateful day.

Gotta try everything once and this was the first and last time…read more It was underwhelming from the first minute...owed to the absence of good service. No one at the front desk forever. The wrong martinis served without olives . The waitress couldn't care less. I'm not even sure we spoke the same kind of English ... I felt like I was in a scene from the movie Hell or High Water (2016). In this famous scene, an elderly waitress tells Texas Rangers Marcus and Alberto that she has worked there for 44 years and they only serve T-bone steak and baked potato, famously asking, "So what don't you want?". Well anyways, the prime rib , which is why we came, only comes as an 11 oz. cut at the largest (and it surely wasn't anything more than that thin little slice on the plate) . For a big PR lover like me just too small to ever be reconsidered. It wasn't bad , sort of middle of the road. Just too small to be taken more seriously. Ambiance is old school worn vinyl booths , the bar overcrowded TV screen no-go, dining room maybe a bit bright, and, dare I say, the clientele is of the casual variety.
