Only downside was how busy it was and how long it took for the food to come out. Also a little pricey for the size of the portions served but still a taste sensation! Highly recommended.

Romance, cocktails and good food were required but my Yelp-fu had yet failed to lead us anywhere particularly good. As we wandered down Surf Parade we realised our options were slim. Koi Restaurant looked very full and the menu was promising but we were politely advised there would be a 20 minute wait for a table. Next door we scoped out Bin 89 and managed to snake a couple who took a few more minutes perusing the menu. We knew our options were closing out fast so we made a dash to land the last table in the whole place. A pokey little two-seater right next to the service desk. Not ideal, but we were smug. The wait staff were welcoming and quick to offer us water and menus. We were able to order cocktails quickly. I had the Purple People Eater which was initially a little strong, but mellowed with the melting ice and the boy had a red wine served in a mini-caraffe - I don't know if it was the sheer size of the glass, but it looked like a teeny tiny serving. We decided quickly on our food order. I went with "small plates" of salmon mousse (served on a half shell), beef taco and salt and pepper calamari. I have a small appetite at the best of times and being gluten free, I had limited (but clearly labelled!) options. The boy went with the rib eye fillet and red wine jus with mash. Very manly (and typical) of him to order meat and potatoes. My salmon mousse was to-die-for. Like, lick the shell clean good. I was making very raunchy noises and my date had to tell me to tone it down it was so fabulous. I considered ordering a second, but remembered I had two more dishes coming. The calamari was so-so. The mayonnaise was fine and creamy, and the batter wasn't too thick and had the right amount of crunch.. the squid was soft and not rubbery at all it was just.. boring. And oily. And very meh. Then the taco arrived. It was a thing of beauty. The shredded beef was spiced to perfection where my mouth felt slightly warm but not obnoxiously hot. The accompaniment in the soft corn tortilla cut through the heavy meat and added delicious texture. I regret not recording the description somewhere as I really have no idea what ingredients they used. Too many cocktails before dinner perhaps? Regardless I enjoyed the ambience, wait-staff and menu items so much I want to go back immediately. Or whenever we have an excuse to spend a weekend on the coast and dine out.

They're more along the lines of a more decadent vegan meal, but... every single thing I had was perfectly done. Delicious, well-flavored, and interesting. I started with one of their coconuts-- with milk thistle tincture and chlorophyll. It was good, perfectly cold. Enjoyed the olives for a starter-- generous portion but at $9 still scary. $21 for a very small Caesar salad was also scary. Yummy, but scary for how tiny the portion was. Enjoyed a turmeric latte-- delicious. And also a cacao maca latte-- even more delicious than the turmeric latter. Both were some crazy price as well. $65 for a dinner for one. Not much food. Luckily, I wasn't that hungry. Note: they DO NOT have free wifi or wifi of any kind-- which is disturbing given the touristy nature of Byron Bay, but alas. For whatever reason, nope. The waiter and manager were exceptionally nice-- really lovely people. I will go again, not look at the prices, and enjoy the food. :)

We're from central coast and there is hardly any vegan options so it was a great feeling knowing everything on the menu was vegan. The nachos and burger we had was absolutely delicious and the mock tails were soooo yummy. The staff was also incredibly nice and welcoming! Highly recommend!!!

Last Friday they texted me to confirm our reservation. I was very pleased at the time that they did this and was looking forward to our dinner. We had arrived around 445pm and noticed the doors were locked, lights off, and no one inside. We figured it was just because we were a bit early so we waited till 5pm. Still there was no one to be seem. At 503pm I texted the number that I spoke with on Friday to confirm our reservation, yet got no response. At 506pm my partner called the number for the restaurant and a man had answered what sounded like his cell phone. He explained to the man that we were waiting outside and that the reservation was even confirmed. The man was not apologetic at all and insisted we come back at 530pm because that is when they open. We waited till about 515pm and at that point left as we had plans later that evening. Not once did they apologize for their actions or try to justify the experience except for at 527pm when they must have finally arrived and texted us to see if we were coming back and offered an apology. I have never seen such unprofessional service at a restaurant before. Not only did they physically text to confirm the reservation and not show up for it - but they also did not have any justification for their actions. I definitely will not be back and will not be recommending others to come here.

A joke of a punishment for the crime. On video you can see this sick man speed up in a Audi, intentionally, to hit a child on a bike on the side of the road out of traffic. He proceeds to scream at the child, while the child pleaded for his life. I hope karma does her magic. Even more concerning is how Mr. Wright seemed to justify his actions by blaming the child's bike as "illegal," rather than genuinely acknowledging the danger and illegality his own driving posed. I expect higher ethical standards and community responsibility from anyone at the helm of a hospitality business. While the restaurant itself may serve somewhat average food or drinks, I personally cannot support an establishment whose leadership shows such disregard for safety and empathy--especially when a young child's wellbeing is at stake. Until clear accountability and genuine remorse are demonstrated, I'll be dining elsewhere. If you care about patronizing businesses that reflect your values, I would encourage you to consider taking your money and support elsewhere, too. The experience at these venues sucked before these events occurred too, every other option nearby provide a way better experience. Terrible for family photos.
