This is a well established florist that has been in business at this location a long time. Always reliable and prompt.

Their website was heavily advertising for Mother's Day, and offering same-day delivery, but they were closed and not taking orders for the actual day, so I ordered them for the following day. Secretive follow up with my father by end of day revealed that not only had the flowers not been delivered, but they'd left a voicemail about it that could have easily given away the surprise, if my mother had found it (but thankfully I got lucky and my father did). I called to follow up with Towne Flowers the next day and got nothing but excuses and unconvincing apologies about both mess ups (non-delivery and the voicemail). When asked why they called my parents, instead of calling me, the person who ordered the flowers, I was told that it was because it would have been too awkward. This is, perhaps, what is the most unacceptable to me. Problems arise with stock and delivery and are understandable (especially following one of the busier flower weekends of the year), but one of the inherent values in a flower delivery is the surprise factor, and Towne Flowers risked removing that value because they chose not to call the person who paid for the order. The lady I spoke with assured me that everything was done with good intentions. Well, I would certainly hope so, otherwise what kind of business is it? I wonder if 'done with good intentions' is another way of saying 'we didn't really think about it'? They did apologize and sent a rose with the flower delivery today, but I will not be using them in the future to avoid the risk of them ruining a surprise again.

Recently I felt the urge to purchase flowers for my girlfriend. Generally I don't like the idea of flowers as a gift; they are quick to wither and seem a little expensive for such a short term gift, but she likes them so I knew I would have to give in eventually. I stopped into Barrington Florist on my lunch break and had a chat with one of the workers. I told her I wanted flowers (very specific, I know) and she began to ask questions only an expert would ask: What's the occasion, what are her favorite colors, what is your budget, etc. I had no idea there was such a science to putting together a bouquet! After I gave her a little information she suggested some nice options at a price I expected to pay. It's not the cheapest thing in the world, but it's definitely worth it. The Barrington Florist is not greatly located and I wonder if many people know it exists deep in the lower levels of the Bell/Aliant building. It's also really crowded and somewhat over stocked, but I guess that means you're just more likely to get what you're looking for. I'm still not totally sold on the idea of flowers as a gift, but if I'm ever so moved to pick some up again, I know where to go. And because I'm sure you're all wondering, yes, she loved the flowers and yes, I am the greatest boyfriend on earth.
