My landlord has a Sears Home Warranty contract, with repairs handled by Sears Home Services. The following is based on two repair experiences, once on a washer and once on a dryer. (1) Extremely difficult to get hold of a live person on the phone (2) When I do reach a live person, they promise to help but cannot (3) I scheduled an appointment, but Sears rescheduled outside of the time window without my approval to times when I was not home. (4) The service itself seems to be jobbed out to local service companies. This "service" is living off the brand reputation of Sears from the old days when it was a solid company. read more

I used Sears Appliance Repair for my refrigerator - I will never ever use them again. First, the service tech is more a salesperson than anything else, peddling a warranty program of questionable value. More significantly, Sears was late obtaining the parts needed for the repair, which in turn resulted in a delayed repair. We are talking a refrigerator here, a pretty key appliance in anyone's kitchen - you try going without one for a week, let alone two or three. Further, when asked how soon after the parts arrived would they be able to install them. Here, Sears really let me down since I would think they would be trying to make amends for the parts delivery snafu, and do the repair work the day after the parts arrived. Sears showed total lack of empathy by not being able to get out to install the parts for three additional days. Remember, this is a refrigerator we are talking about. Finally, I want to comment on Sears problem with communications. The parts were supposed to arrive on a Friday for installation the following Monday. My communications nightmare began with an email from Sears asking me to call to confirm receipt of my parts order (you'd think they would know, right - it was their parts order for my refrigerator). I called the number, and received an automated response that indicated my parts were on the way to arrive later that day. Next, I get another email asking me to confirm the service date of Monday, and to please call Sears. I call again, getting a human this time, but it is hard to understand the people that answer the phone for Sears. I tried two different people, asked for a supervisor, got cut-off, called again, explained the situation and the person confirmed that Sear would be there on Monday. Things start up again Saturday, and it happens again on Sunday - this time mot just emails, but text messages and ultimately a phone call. By Sunday afternoon, I was finally able to determine that the parts order that Sears made was only partially received, and a key part was not included, thus the repair could not be completed. So after three days of communications, I finally figured out the obvious - I never should have used Sears in the first place. Save yourself aggravation and find another appliance repair company. They do not come through, and show absolutely no empathy or other form of concern for your situation. Oh, and remember, other than the salesman/service tech and the repair people themselves, everyone else is out of town - so you can't go to your local Sears to complain. They will say it is not their responsibility, and to please call this number. So you never get any satisfaction or indication that anyone at Sears gives a damn anymore - signs of a failing company. read more

My experience with Sears appliance repair yesterday was about as good as it can possibly get. The technician came out the same day that I called and he couldn't have been nicer. He had years of experience, and he diagnosed the problem with my gas range's oven immediately and fixed it promptly. read more

I scheduled a yearly tune up for my Kenmore washing machine and the technician came and had no idea what he was doing. I scheduled a repair for my riding mower back in June and when the technician came he ordered the parts. We waited and waited for the parts to arrive. They never did. I called several times to see what was going on and I was transferred from dept to dept. I was told that the parts were obsolete, back ordered ect. I finally ordered the parts online and did the repairs ourselves. Needless to say the parts finally came at the end of October. Not very helpful the. Needless to say I will not be renewing my protection plan for my riding mower. Very disappointing! read more

My oven wasn't working. Appeared to be the ignitor. Made an appointment online. Service tech showed up on time, confirmed my diagnosis and said he could put in a new one for $431.31! Half the cost of a whole new stove! Having looked up the part, prices ranged from $25 to $130 for the part. Sears was charging $120, which is fine. The tech was here for about 45 minutes and the labor charge was $310!!!! I had no choice but to let him finish the job as my oven was all taken apart and I needed it. This is theft! If I have any other choice, I will never use Sears service again. Unfortunately I live in a rural area and don't have any or many choices. We have purchased all of our major appliances from Sears since 1970 and this is the treatment we get. No wonder they are in such poor financial shape. read more

The worst service person EVER. They are not there to repair, but to destroy your appliance beyond repair that you have no choice but to buy a new one. That's not the only thing. The "repair" person is very aggressive and intimidating, and will treat you like you have no idea what is going on. The person will yell and belittle you until you say "I will get a new one." By far the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life. read more

I have a five year protection agreement with sears (big mistake) for my craftsmans zero turn mower. At first, they had local techians that were really good. The mover borke every summer and it worked about half of each summer. Now sears has to bring in techians from wester new york everyother month and my mower has only worked for four weeks. It broke on July 22 and the techian arrive on Aug. 14. He ordered a new part and they sent the wrong part. Sears will not allow me to return or exchange the part becasue only a techian can do that. He is not scheduled to be back unitl Sept. 19 and he will have to order a correct part and return sometime in Oct. or Nov. to install it and fix the mower. According to the protection agreement, they are supose to send someone to fix the mower, not wait until the season is over and maybe fix it. read more

The repairmen are rude, condescending, incompetent and outright liars. No customer service skills...it is not acceptable to come into someone's home and treat them the way they treated our family. They refused to connect us with management. The better business bureau will be called. read more

Told them I needed the control board for the dryer as it burnt out, so please bring it. Didn't. Charged around $99 for the analysis and said they would come back in two weeks. I said I could pick up the part as I had looked up the price at the local Sears part store. They said they would deliver to me. Yup. Didn't tell me 150% of the retail price for the part. Then they sold me the total house warranty, but the warranty you still pay $75 for each visit with a whole bunch of add-ons and the repairs arent' free only discounted. The price of the repair is discounted AFTER it is jacked up. The outsourced repair person asked me if I would like two appliances inspected as part of the contract. Sure. Why not take free stuff? He only looked at one appliance then added $80 to the bill. I had to pay half the bill before the repairman showed up, half on completion. After the guy left I noticed his numbers didn't add up and he had charged me an extra $50. He read a 40 as a 90. Texted him. No response. 6 weeks of calling the contract place who said they couldn't help me even with the $50. Said to e-mail and gave me an e-mail, which also wasn't for that purpose. I asked for the maintenance to be cancelled first day, but it took two months to be routed to the right person, who said they would forward my request to someone for the $50 would cancel the contract, but that I would owe another $270 something for the lost discounts on the repairs and wouldn't return the $80 for the "free inspection." Oh and the repair guy was so rude to my tenant that she came to the door crying. He left his coffee cup and trash on her counter also. Never pay by check. Their contract says they can go into your bank account if they think you didn't pay the full amount. I assume same thing if you pay by credit card. read more
