Sears Home Services / Sears Appliance Repair -- Avoid This Service This was by far the worst appliance repair experience I have had. I hired Sears Home Services to replace the cooling fan motor in a KitchenAid refrigerator. After the initial visit, Sears charged me in advance for the part, then scheduled and canceled the next four repair appointments, each near the end of the four-hour service window. Customer service was equally frustrating. Communication was almost entirely through automated/AI texts and phone systems, with virtually no ability to speak with a person who could resolve the problem. After four canceled appointments, poor communication, wasted hours, and no completed repair, I ultimately filed a dispute with my bank to recover the money charged. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend avoiding Sears Home Services for appliance or refrigerator repair. The service, scheduling, communication, and customer support were unacceptable and a complete waste of time and money. read more

I wish I could give negative stars. I called for service on a dishwasher. Sears sent out a man named Donald that did not know what he was doing. It took him over an hour just to diagnose the problem as a water intake valve. And give an estimate of $452 AND he told me I had to pay it before the repair was done. I never heard of pre-paying before, but I was stupid enough to do it. They had to get the part and sent another man out to put it in two days later. The second person, Huston, arrived totally dressed inappropriately in very short shorts. Huston was constantly bragging about how good and fast he was. I told him that Donald diagnosed the problem at which point said "He is an idiot." Huston got the new part in and turned it on but never waited until the point where it would not work and turned it off and left. When we tried a load of dishes, the same thing happened and blinked out the same diagnostic lights. I tried to call someone, but the Sears phone numbers make it impossible to talk with a real person always being answered by an AI voice. The AI must have finally recognized my frustration and setup a "virtual" appointment the next day. I explain what happened and gave this virtual technician the code the dishwasher was blinking and he said it indicated a water outlet problem and not the inlet problem. Donald was wrong and cost me $452. They sent another man out the next available slot and he gave a different diagnosis than Donald. Another estimate for over $500 just for parts...not labor. I said no. I would like to get my original $453 refunded, but I have tried a LOT of phone numbers, but they all lead to the AI chat and I am at a loss as how to go about the refund process. I would NEVER use this service again! Totallly DISATIFIED!!!! Requested technician to repair my Thor gas oven which would not light. The tech was on time and pleasant, diagnosed the problem and wrote an estimate for $500+. I told him I would discuss the repair with my wife and get back to him. He assured me that the $129 fee would apply to the repair if we chose to use them. Decided to do the reapair and did an online AI chat (the only option) and scheduled the repair and were informed they had to again send another tech but there would be no charge for the second visit. The tech arrived and got the model # etc. as he was re-writing the estimate and informed me that only $65 could be applied. I said that was not satifactory, and he informed me that he had to call his boss and returned saying there was nothing he could do. I told him this was totally unsatisfactory and I wanted to talk to his boss and hel told me that is not how it worked. He walked out leaving his very expensive tool kit behind. Just awful, DO NOT USE THEM! Had a technician come out, diagnosed the problem and said he had to order the part. I was told it would be in within 24 hours and they would be back in the morning. My appointment got moved, then got moved again, 5 days from now!? I called to cancel but they do not have any human customer service, only bots. So now I have to fight the $129 charge just for them coming out.....but I have no idea how to do that because I cannot actually speak to anyone. read more

Had an appointment Tuesday 12/4, kept changing arrival time finally changed date to Thursday. Arrived on Thursday and said I needed a part and it would cost $400 for part installation. Terr customer service and could never talk to a person to discuss my issue. Will never use agai. read more

Update: I realized I did not provide an update since Sears commented on my review stating they wanted to speak on next steps. I reached out to the phone number and, shockingly, it was AI only and a human being was unavailable. No call back happening from there. The website led to the ability to leave them an email. Weeks later, no response. Big surprise, now that Sears has my money, they couldn't care less that they ruined my floor and caused me to have to call a furnace repair company. If they cared, they have my number and could have called me instead of posting a publicly facing response as an attempt to make it appear they care. Just want to let anyone thinking about using their services that they don't. Avoid at all costs. read more

The furnace was supposedly repaired, but it was not. House is still freezing. Called Sears, but their help line is all AI. it was NO HELP! I will raise hell with their corporate offices on Monday, but what an unnecessary problem. read more

Our home warranty company scheduled Sears Home Services to come out and look at our AC unit. We received texts confirming our appointment with Sears, but nothing the morning of. He showed up at our door without calling or texting as promised. He mentioned a couple of things about the age of the unit, and that he would submit his findings. He didn't walk around with us or show us anything. He didn't give us any paperwork or business card, nor his name. Within an hour the home warranty company called denying our claim based on damage to the outside of the unit, the compressor hose, and some sort of fabricated modification. The technician DID NOT MENTION ANY OF THIS DURING THE VISIT. Coincidentally, we had already had a service company come out on our own prior to the visit and they didn't mention any of these things either. The Sears tech did not show us nor send us any pictures. We have called 5 different phone numbers for Sears and each one says that there is not actual person available, but the automated agent can help. However, there is no way to leave a message, and of course none of the options mention needing feedback from the technician. In the meantime, I have received 3 text messages and one automated phone call telling us the technician is on the way and sorry for the delay. I told them three times via these contacts that the technican has come and gone, but the reminders keep coming. Come on Sears, get it together! read more

What a waste of time! In spite of showing the technician a video of the problem, he was unable to do anything about it because he "couldn't replicate it ". The dryer sheets sometimes get caught under the lint trap housing. That's not supposed to happen. Fix it! Additionally, get rid of your damn AI and hire real people to talk to. I described the problem in detail repeatedly to the AI bot so the tech would "have the necessary parts " with him to fix the problem and avoid a callback.The tech's first question to me: "what's wrong with your dryer?" Really? I must also mention that while it worked out ok, he arrived outside of the time window I notified AI bot about multiple times in setting up the appointment. Totally ignored! read more

Still no dishwasher after 6 weeks and at a bajillion phone calls. They agreed to replace the unit because it was taking so long on the repair with no guarantee that they could fix it and then today after calling them multiple times they have sent an email stating they voided the replacement due to an error and marked the service as complete. I still have a totally dead dishwasher And to top it all off the CSR hung upon me when I asked for their supervisor. This is not right!! Using the AI sched system was very frustrating and time consuming. Not going to use it again until you fix the numerous problems currently still happening. Our furnace started over heating, smoke & a burning smell was coming out of our vents so I scheduled an appointment with Choice Home Warranty. While we waited for an appointment my husband took the cover off & checked to see if the filter was dirty but it wasn't so he closed it then the blower started working fine. Then Sears showed up a few days later & noticed the limit switch was missing & had to order it & rescheduled to come back in 5 days. 15 minutes after he left the burning smell & smoke started coming back out the vents again setting off our smoke alarm. I immediately called the Tech Ottis to let him know & his response was he already closed the ticket & wasn't coming back until Friday. So we were without heat from Monday to Friday & had to use space heaters. I was not happy about it at all since the heat was working before he came but once he came back Friday morning he fixed it & we've had no problem. Ottis is very friendly & knowledgeable. Waited all morning (8-12) for someone to show up and fix my refrigerator. No one came. Received a notice by email (?) around 11:40 saying that they'd arrive by 1 p.m. Nope. No notice. Had an Appointment for Friday 11/21. No show, no call. I called to inquire and was rescheduled for Monday. Tech showed up Monday. Quote was ridiculous. Labor for a half hour job was $345. The part was three times what it is online in addition to the inflated labor. That's crazy. My service was automatically rescheduled several times with no communication until the day of the appointment. There is no way to talk to a representative, everything is done by AI. My LG refrigerator/freezer had its compressor stop working. LG recommended Sears who came out and found it is the compressor and the service agent talked to LG and found it is on warranty. LG Emailed Sears 3 times but the repair people did not get a notice of this and the compressor was not ordered. I talked to LG 4 times and they referred me to a phone number for Sears that is AI only. I talked to the Sears. Home Warranty people 3 times and they could not see if the emails had been received. They are great until they get your money - then they disappear. We called for a refrigerator repair. Technician came during the service window and diagnosed the problem. We had to order parts. As soon as the parts came in, they were prompt in scheduling a technician to install them. All good. The refrigerator stopped working 2 days later. They scheduled someone to come out the next day. No show. They scheduled someone the next business day. Another no show. FIVE days in a row, no shows. STILL WAITING. STILL NO WORKING REFRIGERATOR. Mitchell was GREAT, very nice and professional - hence 2 Stars. We were charged nearly $300 for labor for a repair only took 20 minutes to replace part. I get it, travel time, but this is outrageous!! Then, $151 for a part that we could get online for $40 or so. Went ahead w/ fix because the color of the washer has been discontinued, couldn't be replaced, and figured once repaired we'd be GTG. WRONG!! .After a month the problem came back, Called CS and told since it was day 35, their 30 day warranty 'expired', so we'd have to make a new appointment. And then they tried to upsell a home warranty. NOPE! We will buy a new washer for about $100 or so more than it will cost us to have this one repaired!! This is STUPID!! Main gripe is with the cost of the repair vis-a-vis brand new replacement. read more

Canceled a service 3 times after calling me, texting me, and emailing me to make certain I would be available from 8am to 5pm just to not show up! I was threatened that if they made the service call and I didn't cancel 24 hours in advance I would be charged! What about the 3 days I had to be home! They never repaired my fridge but ordered parts that had to be returned. They then threatened to charge me for those parts! The seal/gasket on our Kenmore Refrigerator first began to fail (creating a seal/leak issue) in December of last year. What should have been a relatively straightforward process of calling, explaining the problem, having someone there order the part and send a technician to install it has turned into A SIX MONTH NIGHTMARE of various failures of basic customer service. Some highlights: -- Hours spent on the phone to talk to someone, only to be repeatedly pushed onto an 'AI Customer Specialist' who just as frequently cancelled appointments for repairs as it made them. -- Technicians arriving without the part because they were told it was mailed to us. As you may see in an earlier review (re: Abib), the technicians were consistently wonderful, but powerless to deal with mismanagement and incompetence from their home office. -- A replacement eventually mailed to us that was so damaged and filthy that the technician wouldn't/couldn't install it. -- MULTIPLE No-shows by various repair staff. -- NO ONE FROM SEARS WILLING TO GET ON THE PHONE AND HELP US SOLVE THIS. Even though we paid for the service contract, we are now seeking third-party OEM parts and technical help because of how utterly useless Sears and their affiliates have been at every turn. We are also beginning to look at legal options regarding not only the loss of time and money, but possible breach of promise regarding the service contract we signed and paid for. If anyone, like us, thought that Sears stands for what it stood for in our youth...STAY AWAY. Buy your appliances LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE. read more

First off, 8 to 5 tech. arrived at 6:19. I am a senior citizen and it is 89 in my home today. Otis said, my compressor is weak. He did check temperature in my home. Did not check temperature at furnace, also did not check temperature at vent. Came in my home after 1 hour said your compressor is and we cannot fix it. Seriously as I already stated it is 89 in home at 2:42 June 24th. Also Choice Home Warranty is still waiting for a diagnosis. It has been since June 17th that he was here. This company no-showed for my scheduled appointment 3 days in a row. Three. I had scheduled for Tuesday afternoon between 1-5. They called me at 5:00 to say they weren't going to make it, but if I called Wednesday morning, they would see if they could squeeze me in.....by Wednesday afternoon they hadn't called me back, but had scheduled me for Thursday afternoon....and failed to show up for that.
