I've been a patient here for ten years or thereabouts. I think the maximum time I have seen the…read moresame doctor more than once before they left the practice, I saw them twice. I was supposed to have an appointment today but realized this morning that I hadn't gotten any confirmation from them, so I called to make sure I was still on the schedule before heading over. They told me "my" doctor, a person I had not met before, had left the practice and they would not have the capacity to reschedule me. They offered to give me the number of another clinic that they're offloading patients to. They claimed I should have received a letter and a text that my appointment was cancelled. I never got a letter, and when I went back and looked, the text I received did not actually indicate to me that the person leaving the practice was my doctor. It just said that a doctor was leaving the practice and IF you happened to have an upcoming appointment with that doctor, you should call to reschedule. Needless to say, the writing has been on the wall for awhile that this is not a clinic with a future for the kind of derms patient I am (maybe, as another review surmises, they are going 100% cosmetic which means less annoyance with insurance and more money per visit), and I guess I'm glad to have had them force me out as a patient so I can find a doctor who I will actually recognize from year to year. But man, what an unprofessional way to go about it with a pretty long term patient.

I've been going to Lake Washington Dermatology for about the last 5-6 years and have been a patient…read moreof Dr. Kim's for most of that time. I have had truly nothing but great experiences with her and her office and would highly recommend her as a provider! I have been dealing with idiopathic urticaria (spontaneous hives) since 2009 and have seen many doctors and specialists who have never been able to find a solution. Then, a few years ago, I started having cold-induced hives as well, making it impossible for me to go out in the winter without breaking out in hives or even handle cold glasses and objects for too long. After no luck with increased antihistamine use, Dr. Kim prescribed me Xolair, which has been used experimentally for hives. It took a few weeks of her petitioning my insurance for use, but she got approval. Her and her team handled all of the back and forth and kept me updated throughout the process, and since I got on the medication, I have had no to minimal hive breakouts since. Then again this past year, when my employer-provided insurance changed, Dr. Kim and her team have continued to battle approvals for me and help me obtain samples while we sorting things out with insurance denials. Yvonne, a medical assistant on her team, has been extremely helpful and responsive, battling this for months now and keeping me informed and medicated in the meantime. Dr. Kim is the only person who has ever been able to help me with this condition, and her and her whole team have been nothing but professional, helpful and caring throughout my time as her patient.

I had a referral from my PCP to this clinic to get some rapid (within 4-6mo) hair loss looked at. I…read morewas worried it was something other than androgenic alopecia and might be something else. I had done a ton of reading on things it could be (I have a masters degree so I know how to do my research). I was told the clinic took my insurance (First Choice). I had my appointment and the MD spent maybe 15min at most with me, telling me things I already knew, only did a quick (15sec) look at my scalp, and said it's probably androgenic alopecia and offers a prescription to oral minoxidil and finasteride. Nothing special was done. I left the office and asked if there was anything I needed to pay and they said no. A month later I get a bill for $211! I call insurance and they tell me that since the MD billed under the diagnostic code for androgenic alopecia it wasn't a covered visit so instead of a $35 co pay I had to pay it all. They told me the billing code was for "moderate diagnostic methods at least 40min" which I do not agree was done. I feel this clinic should have communicated that such a common billing diagnosis wouldn't be covered by my common insurance. I understand that ultimately I should have checked with my insurance first, but I didn't know what diagnosis they would bill under. I will not be returning to this clinic.

I was an established patient at Modern Dermatology for several years before moving out of the area…read more After returning, I understood that I would be considered a new patient again and accepted the long wait time. I scheduled an appointment nearly 10 months out. Unfortunately, due to a travel conflict, I needed to reschedule. When I called, I was told the next available appointment was another 9 months away. That kind of delay makes it very difficult to maintain continuity of care, especially as a returning patient. I understand demand is high, but the lack of flexibility or reasonable rescheduling options was disappointing.

The Handshake Says It All: Unbiased Review of Racial Microaggressions in Healthcare…read more Let me be crystal clear about my experience with Preston Lehr, PA and this dermatology practice: it was unacceptable. As a Black woman, I was subjected to treatment that exemplifies the medical disparities POC face daily in healthcare settings. On my first visit to discuss the removal of skin tags and to have PA Lehr examine my ruptured cyst, his behavior immediately made me uncomfortable. He greeted me with an exaggerated, stereotypical handshake that felt forced and inappropriate--something I guarantee he doesn't do with his white patients in Edmonds. During this visit, he prescribed a powerful antibiotic for my ruptured cyst without mentioning it needed to be taken with food. This potentially dangerous oversight was only caught by my pharmacist, not the doctor who prescribed it. When I returned for my second visit to have the skin tags removed, PA Lehr greeted me with the same uncomfortable handshake. When I asked if the procedure would hurt, his dismissive response that "it's not going to hurt him" was both condescending and unprofessional. I had to specifically ask about aftercare instructions myself--information that should be provided automatically. For my third visit to address the now-calmed cyst, PA Lehr once again greeted me with the same inappropriate handshake. I couldn't help but think: would a 50-year-old white woman, man or non-binary person be treated this way? Absolutely not. During the procedure, he provided minimal explanation and zero aftercare guidance. Only the support staff stepped in to give me the proper information I needed. The support staff was competent, but they can't compensate for a doctor who treats patients differently based on how they look. This is medical racism, plain and simple--not jokes, not lightheartedness, but the exact kind of differential treatment that research consistently shows undermines care for communities of color. I'm giving two stars solely because: 1) The procedures were technically completed and 2) The support staff provided information the PA should have given. I will never return to this practice and strongly advise against it for anyone--ESPECIALLY people of color who deserve healthcare providers who see and respect them as human beings deserving equal care and dignity.

She attempted to treat it the first time and gave me many disclaimers. A few weeks later, it was back exactly the same way. I went back, paid again (at a higher charge), and she treated it again. A few weeks later, it came back again! This time, I called multiple times to explain that she should see me without charging another fee. They were very hesitant but finally agreed. Then the doctor canceled my appointment. The next available appointment is more than six weeks away. I was told the doctor is busy, likely seeing new patients. I am very disappointed in the treatment, accountability, and lack of professionalism from Dr. Stano.
