I went to Madrona Dermatology for a skin cancer screening. The good: Immediately spoke to a human when calling to make the appointment. They were knowledgeable and quickly and efficiently confirmed they were in-network for my insurance and set up an appointment. Was sent a link to their patient portal so I could take care of new patient process ahead of time. Check in for my appointment was quick and easy and I was taken back on time and seen by the physician's assistant quickly. The bad: A spot of concern was identified so it was biopsied and sent to a lab to be checked. After that I've never heard from anyone at Madrona since (my appointment was six weeks ago). I found my lab results on the patient portal and read them myself but no one ever called to give me the results and check if I had any questions. Madrona chose to use a lab that is out of network for my insurance despite the fact that I have one of the most popular insurance companies in the puget sound region AND there are MANY in-network labs in the area around the practice. I don't benefit from the pre-negotiated rates or get this charge credited to my deductible. Does the doctor have a financial interest in the lab - I don't know but wouldn't be surprised. read more

Simply put, Dr. Dick is the best. I was incredibly fortunate to be under her care for over 10 years, first as part of one of the hospital networks in Seattle and then following her when she opened her private practice (Madrona Dermatology). It was because of her diligence and keen eye that we discovered my melanoma during one of my initial visits, and subsequently I felt like I was "in great hands" for over a decade. I was a patient of Madrona Dermatology for the last two years. Dr Dick is fantastic. HOWEVER her administrative/billing staff is out of control. A few months back I used a credit card to make a payment for merchandise. On 8/21/20, I found a $50.00 charge on this same card (which I had recently stopped using). The charge was from her office. They had NO PERMISSION to use that card for anything without my approval. NO invoice had been sent. No advance notice. Just wham! Yank money off of my credit card. Of course I called the office to complain on same day; and, they have not bothered to reply. Why should they bother, they got the money. I am the type who likes to find a doctor and continue with them forever. Dr. Dick was going to be my dermatologist for the foreseeable future; but, not after this dishonest action. I was referred to Dr. Dick by a number of friends. Trust me they have already heard enough of this incident. They did agree it is an extremely poor way to treat loyal patients. PS Of course in this day of credit card fraud and related identity theft, after this unauthorized charge to my card, I now have to cancel it. Who knows when it will be just charged again. read more

When I walked into the office I was struck by how clean and contemporary it is! Super Fresh. I went to Madrona to have a mole check. Dr. Jenkin gave me a full head to toe check and fortunately, a clean bill of health. She now has me on an annual skin check. The staff were efficient and responsive. It was an easy process start to finish and wait time was about 5 minutes. I read through the credit card policy. I am not adverse to having a cc on file as some are. Their policy states that if the balance is late and under $200 they will bill the credit card. If charges are over $200, they will notify you and give you payment options. This seems fair amidst this very confusing "health insurance" phase we are in as a country. I recommend Madrona if you're looking for a doctor to check and track skin issues. read more

I have had cystic acne for as long as I can remember, not terrible but enough to cause me discomfort and to be embarrassed going out in public when it would flare up. I had been to 4 or 5 dermatologists before trying an appt with Dr. Dick. I am SO glad I did!!! She is the first and only doctor to have fixed my issue AND without using oral medication. She is very thorough, listens, and is always very knowledgeable. She lets me know my options but it never feels pushy or like she's trying to up sell me. I made an appointment with Dr. Jenkins about a month or so in advance and spoke with the receptionist who was extremely insightful and helpful. My appointment was for a simple mole removal that was on my face. I was hoping to get at least three or four removed. I had been referred to Dr. Jenkins by a few different friends and coworkers. Upon arriving to my appointment the staff at the front desk was welcoming and kind. Unfortunately my 1 star rating is due to Jenkins. I felt as though she was trying to upsell me into getting my moles lasered off which I understand might be a better method for less or no scarring and things like that. She was very pushy about this and when she told me the laser would be $400 per mole I told her I couldn't do this and was not what my appointment was for. She said to come back and ask for the mole removal as a Christmas gift. I was stunned. I took the day off of work to come in and get this done and I left with nothing. I was beyond disappointed to say the least and I will never have Jenkins touch my face. read more

To anyone in the market for a chemical peel, Madeline does a great job. I went to Madrona for cystic acne and dark undereye circles. I wanted to have great looking skin without makeup on. Master esthetician Madeline recommended a series of acne chemical peels. She explained the process, ingredients and aftercare in detail. My acne did calm down slightly, and the acne marks are less noticable. My skin is glowing. I'm still seeking long term solutions for my skin issues but the peels did get me closer to my goal. read more

Please don't waste your time or money here! I had an appointment with the physician's assistant after waiting for several weeks. As a fellow healthcare professional, I was shocked by the lack of an exam and expertise provided. The exam consisted of asking me to pull down my mask and glanced from across the room. She did not look at my back, which I had mentioned both when making an appointment and while getting checked in by the medical assistant. When I told her I had been using over-the-counter salicylic acid products, she told me it wasn't safe during pregnancy over 6%. Thanks lady, but greater than 2% isn't available over-the-counter. After telling me that "acid" compounds aren't good for pregnancy, she recommended Azeleic acid (which I was already using) and glycolic acid. I can only chuckle, because I imagine her advice would come off as confusing to many people. I had to specifically ask about other tips for my skin care routine (e.g. face wash and moisturizer). In the end, she offered nothing additional to what can be found on the internet. I can absolutely share the frustration of patients referencing Dr. Google, but in this case, I would have been just as well off skipping this appointment and following internet advice. The front office people were super nice in booking my appointment. I asked for two back to back appointments to cover two separate issues. I checked in and the receptionist was super warm and kind. My issue was that when I was in the check up room, I went through w the nurse or assistant all the questions I had. Soon after, the dr came in and right off the bat said that I had too many questions and that I would have to come back for a follow up appointment. I explained to her that I had two appointments but she kept insisting that they don't do that at their office. She insisted that the front desk people know not to schedule back to back appointments. I didn't know what to say, did she think I was lying? The first time I called, I made sure that the receptionist knew that I wanted two appointments to cover two separate issues. She even said that she would find an appointment time where she could block off the time for two appointments. I called again the day before the appointment to tell the office staff what I was coming in for. The reason I wanted two separate back to back appointments was because it is really hard to find childcare to come in twice at two separate occasions. I wanted to be efficient. Obviously, I expected to be billed for the two visits. I felt really uncomfortable with the back and forth on whether or not I had actually scheduled two separate appointments with the dr. It was my first time at this office too. Way to set an impression upon the first meeting. This was the first thing we talked about. The dr seemed nice after this and explained everything pretty thoroughly however I wish they provided a summary of what they had diagnosed since I am unfamiliar w a lot of the medical jargon she used. I had some weird itching to skin exposed to sun light in the spring. I got super anxious as I was heading to Hawaii in less than 2 months and didn't want to be an itching mess. She missed a very serious concern that I had and I asked repeatedly for a biopsy and she refused. It turned out to be malignant melanoma. Fortunately, I changed doctors, but because she waited, it had spread and a large portion of my face was removed requiring hospitalization and around 60 stitches. read more

Absolutely horrible billing practices. My husband was asked to give his credit card number before treatment for payment of remaining bill after insurance. They sent a bill requesting immediate payment, which I paid and then billed my debit card additionally anyway. I was treated in a smug fashion, stating that my husband signed an agreement, but they couldn't explain why a bill requesting immediate payment was sent out. Would have loved to see Dr. Dick. However, upon printing out my forms I noticed their policy of holding your credit card on file. No biggie, I'm sure this isn't a strict practice. I'll call and check on it in the morning. Sure enough, it is their office policy. Erm, no, you cannot hold my credit card on file. Can you say data breach? I asked to speak with the office manager Lori. She said their financial management company and the dr. have this policy. Period. I told her how I believe this is unethical. She said she's sorry I'm upset. I'm not upset I advised. I told her this is bad business and fosters distrust. She said she doesn't need to be preached to and summarily hung up on me. I did not curse or raise my voice. Heck, I wasn't even angry. I told her prior to the hang up that I'll go somewhere else and to cancel both mine and my son's appointment. Yes, they lost 2 patients and didn't give a rip about it. My mind was blown by the flippant and dismissive treatment I received over the phone. read more

I have had a lifelong battle with acne starting in my teenage years. I was referred to Dr. Jenkin to attempt to curb this issue once and for all. She recommended I do a 5 month treatment of Accutane. While I knew this would be difficult treatment to be on, I was assured that this would take care of the skin issues I had always been prone to. She gave me assurance that I needed to stay the course (my blood work and progress was checked monthly) and complete the treatment. For the first time in my life in over 20 years I have been acne free for over 4 months now. She is very thorough in her explanation and reasoning for her recommendations. I had my first appointment with Dr. Sarah Dick at Madrona Dermatology last month and I couldn't have more positive feedback from my experience. Since relocating from out of state, I had been searching for months for a new dermatologist in the area and hadn't had any luck... until Madrona Dermatology! The office staff is incredibly friendly, the office is gorgeous and Dr. Sarah Dick couldn't have been better. She has a great personality that works well with me (I'm a very nervous patient around doctors and needles) and she really made me feel like each of my skin concerns were evaluated and properly addressed. I even felt so comfortable there, I had her perform a mole removal that I've been avoiding for the last few years! Also, I was SO impressed that she didn't push any kind of cosmetic procedure on me - something I definitely can't say for a majority of the dermatologists I've visited in the past. Lastly, her office staff was awesome at helping me resolve an issue when my insurance company denied coverage for a specific mediation she prescribed. Just don't. A new patient, I trusted Dr. Dick. Her credentials imply that she should know where to inject Botox, and how deep to do so. I left her office with hope for a brighter look, mid-brow and crow's feet smoothed out; a process I had had successfully done before, by another provider. Within hours of Dr. Dick's treatment, my face contorted to a bizarre shape. My brow completely dropped, giving me an angry Jack-the-Pumpkin-King look. I have experienced severe depression. I don't go out of the house. An actor, I've lost work. Her response was that an additional tweak of Botox would help. It didn't. Confronting her with the outcome, she refunded all my expenses, but I am left with a contorted appearance. Trust in Dermatology Providers is paramount! Folks...your money back, and an inappropriate offer of a hug (!) is no consolation, for a screwed up result. Search on for a conservative provider, who explains risk, so you don't end up like me. I went to Dr Sarah Dick on a referral and while my visit was fine and the Dr was helpful, the billing process turned out to be a mess. I had just gotten new insurance, but hadn't received my cards yet (or a login to print the cards) so they insisted I pay myself with a credit card and submit a claim to insurance. They provided me with they said I needed to submit the insurance claim. I don't do this for a living so I trusted that they gave me the correct information. My insurance company denied the claim due to insufficient information. I went into the office asked for more, they gave me more. I submitted the paperwork again, and again they left a section of the form blank that was needed. The claim was rejected again. Each time I've asked for the information, the front desk (Christina) has been rude, unhelpful, and sent me running in circles trying to find the information I need. Four months have passed and I still don't have the right information from Madrona. read more
