I am a complete omnivore, but Leslie was very careful to make sure people with dietary requirements or preferences had plenty of great food to eat. The snacks and complementary wine in the afternoon were also very nice. I had a personal mishap while I was there, and Leslie was both caring and helpful. The location is an easy walk from the waterfront and the museums in town. Many guests were there for a day or so before or after a cruise. It worked out very smoothly.

The offerings on the website truly matched what we experienced in our 4 night stay. The bed provided the best sleep I have had in my many years of work travels. The location was within walking distance of downtown restaurants and many sightseeing places. While the rooms have a vintage look they are quiet and spacious enough, each with its own bathroom (and yes I did take a lovely bath in the deep claw foot tub). You would be remiss to choose a traditional hotel over this beautifully managed home.

I recently returned from a lovely 10 day Alaskan cruise. My wife & I had a great time checking out…read more4 different ports along with 6 days at sea. The ship was the epitome of modern luxury and the port cities catered to all the tourists needs. But at some point, I needed to get a little down and dirty, to get away from the crowds of visitors. To me, Alaska is still frontier, and I needed to experience just a taste of it. From the recommendation of a grizzled cruise staff, my wife & I found ourselves at the Alaskan Hotel and Bar, enjoying a pint and taking in small piece of history. While a few tourists did wander in, most of the patrons seemed local and knew each other and the staff. We watched from the far end of the bar and soaked in the atmosphere while enjoying our beers. Though there was a single acoustic guitarist playing from the stage, the bar was mostly still and quiet, a welcome respite from the throngs of outsiders on the street, veering in and out of the jewelry stores and tacky souvenir shops. Both of us needed this time to recharge, to enjoy a different side of Alaska than we'd seen, to be around normal people again. Does this bar have all the amenities? Are fancy cocktails the standard fair? Is the furniture new? All those answers are no. But the drinks are strong and the bathrooms are clean. And for a tired tourist, this is the most welcome sight.

I spent hours at different camera stores in LA. I decided the Fuji X-T2 was my baby. But…read moreultimately, I didn't purchase it. Too much. Did I need it? Well, a day into my bucket list trip with my Pops in Alaska, I was in full on regret. I wanted a real camera; not my iPhone. Art is the guy. He is honest, knows his cameras, and is the kinda guy you love and wish you lived the life of. Art gave me a price on the X-T2 that was literally $800 less that every place in LA. The selection was limited, as it didn't include Sony or Canon, but Art explained the markups on those brands were BS and those companies didn't give him a margin to make any profit selling. That's honest. In summation, Art is a gem. Probably worth flying to Juneau just to purchase a Fuji camera from him.

Steve, the owner, basically bought 50 acres of land and HEAVILY altered it. It seems like he just planted flowers and other plants where they didn't belong and started offering extremely dangerous and unsafe tram tours to brag about it. Also, the tour guide was obsessed with trees and dwarf mistletoe. It was incredibly hard to listen to. There are MUCH better things that you can spend your money on other than this. The only nice thing about this place was the visitor center.
