Aquatic Explorations has given our son a place where he can participate, learn, grow, and feel included, and we are incredibly grateful to have found them. Our son began his swim journey with Coach Oliver, and we couldn't have asked for a better start. Coach Oliver was calm, patient, and understanding, always meeting our son where he was and allowing him to progress at his own pace. Those first swim experiences were incredibly positive and welcoming and helped build the foundation for the progress we are seeing today. He is now with Coach Jason, and all I can say is WOW! Slowly but surely, we have watched him become more comfortable, confident, and independent in the water. Coach Jason is exactly what he needs. He is kind and patient, but also firm and knows when to push him to do a little more each session. As parents who want to protect our child every step of the way LOL, having a coach we can truly trust means so much to us. Coach Jason is making such a positive difference in our son's life, and watching his progress and growing confidence in the water means more to us than words can express. Even though she is young, I see that they have other programs available as she progresses and advances through her swimming like the swim club, the snorkeling program, and the surfing program. I even took a surf lessons myself with the owner, who is absolutely fantastic. Six months seems like a good time to really attest to the quality of swim lessons my sister has with Isabella, her swim instructor. We went in hoping with all our might that my sister would be paired with a good instructor who has experience with individuals with special needs. At the beginning, I tried to find reviews on specific instructors and times that worked best, and ultimately, with sheer dumb luck, we chose Isabella. That decision has been a very fortunate luck of the draw for my sister to have Isabella for her instructor. We had very low expectations for my sister's goal in learning to swim. However, with Isabella's guidance, care, compassion, and immense patience, my sister's progress has exceeded our expectations. Isabella is a wonderful instructor who embodies warmth, positivity, and is firm even when she brings on new challenges for growth, which is perfect for my sister. With her compassion and kindness, Isabella has managed to make major progress with my sister to allow swimming goggles to be placed over her eyes. For nearly all her life, my sister has hated being submerged under water, goggles over her eyes, or anything over her face, but Isabella has been able to change that and help my sister grow in less than a year. Isabella is efficient and effective as a swim instructor. Isabella offers a safe and welcoming space for her students, including and especially those with special needs. Waterworks Aquatics is lucky to have such a great instructor as Isabella K., whose technical skills are just as wonderful as her care and empathetic nature to her students and the family she works with. She deserves to be recognized for her work, kindness, and patience. I do want to mention, this location is a heated pool facility, with a separate play look, is kept clean overall, and the bathrooms are decent in cleanliness. Parking also usually isn't an issue. My only complaint, and this is regarding the application/portal, is that often from my use, it has glitched where I can't always find the specific instructor. I've had to screen cap and send this over so the company can work with IT but it has happened a few times now. This is more of a technical critique and not related at all to the instructor nor facility.

I'm glad to see this option for those in the community who are not necessarily students to be able to take fitness classes @ The Beach. Some of the classes look more geared toward faculty and staff and are offered during lunch hours, but some of them are open to the community and are in the evenings. The fitness classes include golf, rowbics, walking, belly dancing, hatha yoga, pilates, capoeira, stretching, water aerobics, and cross training. I've been taking the hatha yoga class, which at $40 for 6 weeks is a total bargain as far as yoga classes go - I highly recommend it. My only complaint is the schedule is related to the school's semester schedule, so there's been a big gap between the end of the spring schedule and the beginning of the summer schedule. I haven't really looked too closely at the other classes but from the flyer they are all very reasonably priced. Worth a look if you're on or near the CSULB campus. I've been focusing on the fitness & wellness classes, but CSULB Club Sports & Recreation also includes all of CSULB's competitive and noncompetitive sports clubs, which are many, as well as CSULB's recreation facilities, including the pool, track & fields, tennis courts, etc. In all my years of living in Long Beach on top of attending CSULB I never knew that the CSULB pool had open swim for the public for limited hours, for only $1! The racquetball courts are free and don't require reservations. CSULB Club Sports & Recreation also has Academic Enrichment Camps for kids during the summer. All in all, it's a very cool program.

Well, I'm only a freshman but it's AMAZING inside. 2 levels of exercising equipment, an indoor track upstairs, 2-3 racquetball rooms and rock climbing down stairs and not to mention the beautiful pool area outside! Oh yes, the sandy volley ball court also. They have cardio machines with a TV hooked onto individual ones! How cool's that? There are tons of lockers outside of locker rooms and inside. Their electronic lockers so you can make a pin and use it again to open it again. If you're unlucky, you get one that doesn't work like I did :( But the staff are more than happy to help you solve the problem, although I did it while only using a towel to cover myself. -___- But they end up putting an "Out of Order" sign on it. I usually go in the morning so it's not very crowded. However, passing by it during the afternoon and looking through the glass windows they have , ^____^, most of the machines are being used. Classes are available also, free and cheap ones. They range from yoga to zumba classes! Staff is also friendly. Ugh I'm tired from the gym..

In the summer, the pool is 50 m, that runs from shallow to deep. There are also a few lanes in the deep end (13 ft) that are 25 yards. In the winter, they reconfigure the lanes so that they are 25 yards (shallow water) and 33 yards (from 7ʻ to 13ʻ). Overall the pool ranges in depth from 4ʻ to 7ʻ and 13.ʻ It is open year round for lap swimming. The other pool is a shallower pool, used primarily for family swim, and swimming for kids in the summer. They also use it for lessons and swim practice for the kids. They have designated hours for public lap swim in the big pool from 12 - 3 PM, M-Sa, and also include Sundays in the summer. Be sure to look for the FAST swim program website in order to reserve and pay for a lane for lap swim. In the summer, the community summer day camp programs come and use the pool, usually from around 11 - 2. There are lifeguards. If you are doing lap swim, itʻs recommended taht you know how to swim. Lap swim tends to be very busy, and most of the people swam in high school or college, many of them during 12 - 3 are older. Basic swim equipment: fins, paddles, kickboards, goggles, are allowed to use as part of your lap swim routine. Swimwear attire. Overall, itʻs a very nice facility. It could use some facility upgrades, like shaded areas where people can towel off in the hot summer months, and where others can wait. It could use more regular cleaning of the locker rooms especially in the summer, when there should be restroom/locker room attendants. It could use more signage, and graphics, and the check in for everyone using the pool should be located near the entrance -in its own building, or a ticket booth. Itʻs a great place.
