Perhaps I should have tried the Asian food. My review will be skewed because I was looking for one specific item.
I love fish, and I love fermentos. The previous evening, I was in the Hauptbahnhof looking for a late night (jetlagged) snack, and got a Bismarck herring baguette at a shop in the train station. My expectations were not terribly high, But the sandwich turned out to be delicious! I had not had a fish boil the chicke but the sandwich turned out to be delicious! I had not had a fishbrotchen before and was wowed by the simplicity and flavor - a slice of wilted lettuce (the only lame part but it was late in the evening), beet horseradish sauce (with a lovely little kick! So fresh!), onion slices, pickle slices, and one lovely smooth thick slab of salted pickled herring were nestled in a tasty fresh multigrain baguette. Side note: I love how the bread in Germany is big enough to do its job without stuffing one to death.
Anyway, I had high hopes for a similar item at this airport venue, where it cost nearly twice as much, and was a seafood place and not a convenience shop.
Verdict: meh. The fish was okay but not as tasty as last night's. The bread was bland and dry, and the horseradish sauce, onions, and pickles were absent. The lettuce wasn't much better either. I regretted not picking one up at the station! Oh well.
Anyway the food looked good but I suggest getting something other than the sandwiches. read more
