Got 2lbs of mussels today and half were already dead. They also smell very fishy. Disappointed because I was excited to try this market out based on the good reviews! We ate the mussels that were live and they taste fishy and another rotten. We couldn't eat them. Never coming back again.

I guess I never thought to put in my thoughts for a seafood store. I come quite often and failed to write in a review. The fish is very fresh and plentiful here, the fish mongers do a wonderful job of cleaning the fish and cutting it up to order if you desire them to cut up the fish for you. the other side of the counter is the cut up fish and other seafood items like uni, scallops, shrimp, clams and other seafoods. This is a wonderful seafood store among the closings of many which I have frequented, so sad.

I forgot to take a photo of the products but here was the end result :)

Came here at 9:30am on Friday as the seafood center was opening. They have a substantial variety of fish to choose from and the man who helped us was so nice, helpful and knowledgeable. It was really refreshing bc some places can be really intimating if you don't know what you are doing/ what you want. I left with 1lb each of sushi grade salmon and ahi tuna as well as 4 hamachi collars from their freezer at a stellar price! We had a dinner party later that night and everyone was impressed by the quality! Definitely will be coming back!

You can find so many varieties of seafood here. Dungeness crab season is here! Fast and efficient. Wear very casual clothing here in case you get splashed

Cooked. Please note that left claw and legs were consumed before taking photo

Seafood Center is located next to a post office with (metered) limited street parking. My husband wanted to have seafood for dinner so he decided to come here, after looking on Yelp. So he walked inside, while I waited in the car with our little girl dog (doesn't make sense for both of us to come in when he knew what he was looking for and I typically eat all kinds of seafood). My husband ended up purchasing: Crab, $12.99 per pound- My husband purchased 2 large crabs and cooked them in our instant pot. They cooked perfectly (my husband's first time making crab in an instant pot and he didn't follow a recipe) and tasted delicious. There was plenty of "meat" in these crabs. The crab was sweet and tender. Shrimp- I don't know how many pounds my husband bought but they were tender and delicious. They were also a pretty large size as well. I don't know how much my husband purchased but he spent around ~$90 (according to him and paid cash). There weren't too many people when my husband walked inside on a Monday afternoon, around 3:30 pm. My husband thought the price was fair (my husband is more familiar with seafood prices than I am) and we would probably come back if we lived in San Francisco.

    Branzino/Branzini

Been coming up to SF more often during Covid-19 pandemic because: 1) There's less people, hence less traffic (& more likely chance of finding parking!) 2) Been cooking at home more often & my family is on a constant hunt for fresh seafood That being said, prior to coming here, I carefully went through all of Seafood Center's Yelp pictures to confirm that they carry Branzino. My family is absolutely addicted to its sweet, mild, and tender white flesh, but the only place we can find it at in San Jose is at Whole Foods... for an exorbitant price of $11.79/lb! Not only that, but they're often pretty inconsistent with their inventory of fish & don't usually have many when they do have it in stock. Meanwhile, Seafood Center seems like the more reliable choice & with the Branzino priced at $8.99, I am even more willing to drive all the way up here JUST for fresh and affordable fish. Obviously, you might think a roughly $3 difference might not be much, but we usually get at least 7 pounds each time! Now, that's almost $21 saved... imagine how many boba drinks I could get. FYI, crab season just started & many people are on the hunt for the pricing so I just wanted to put that out there that they have a tank filled with small crabs for $9.99/lb in the front and another tank filled with large crabs for $10.99/lb in the back. There's definitely better deals around, but I just wanted to put that out there. On another note, I noticed they also carried fillets of Ora King Salmon if anyone is interested! I don't see that around very often in stores, but I've had it in a restaurant before & it was the best salmon I've ever had :)

It was our first time stopping by and we'll definitely be back! We were up in Marin for the day, and swung by in the afternoon on a Sunday. Wasn't too busy when we came in, but a few folks followed us. Everything looked fresh and the folks working there were very helpful (if you're getting fish, ask them to clean it up for you). We were there for crab, and got 2 ($10.99/lb). We paid $45 for these two massive crabs, and ended up steaming them at home for a Cajun boil. My husband was pleased and mentioned how much meat and fat there was. I plan on stopping by again next time we're in the city. It was such an easy and affordable way to have a crab dinner. Be sure to tip the folks working - especially with LNY this month!

I brought a bag of mussels today. Make sure to clean and pull out mussel beard before cooking. Discard ones that doesn't open after cooking.

This is maybe my first time buying seafood here. I normally don't cook a lot of seafood at home except for shrimp, and I mostly get my shrimp from a bag in TJs. So why 2 stars after my recent successful attempt at making drunken mussels? Well, first of all, half of the bag of mussels went into the compost bin because they were either broken (cracked or entire shells broken) before cooking or they didn't open after I cooked it. Now I did get a nice bowl of cooked mussels afterwards (see my photos from "quarantine food"), but not enough to really make it a meal. It became more of a snack for us. It was delicious because of the great recipe from chef John from foodwishes. That man is funny and has great recipes. Because of this, I'm very weary about buying other seafood from here.

Ask the Community - Seafood Center

Can anyone tell me if they have tried the scallops and if so the quality? Thanks?

A few times. They've always been decent; certainly fresh.

    Do they have oysters?

    Yes

Do they sell fish here thats safe to eat as sashimi?

Yes! I picked sushi grade tuna and salmon here today. Great prices too.

How many/size shrimp per pound and price?

The price of seafood varies on season, supply/demand, where it is from, fresh/frozen, etc. I don't know of any seafood market where the price is constant day to day.

I did find a place where no meat would be available in SF . Once I started thinking of this place I started to map out hella meal possibilities with me creating dishes like San Francisco's native dish Cioppino and also making some salmon dishes along with some okay shrimp dishes like fried shrimp, skewer shrimps on the barbie, and scallop ceviche. The real feast on Good Friday would be getting the Dungeness Crab paired with some garlic noodles . This place has been a Mission District seafood institution and it's called Sun Fat Seafood company ( a former employee started Basa Seafood Express on 24th street). On a Spring stroll on Mission street between 22nd and 23rd streets I went inside a fresh seafood market. Inside you will see live lobsters in a tank. You will also see Dungeness Crab during crab season and also find of variety of fresh oysters selection along with scallops. You will also see sushi rolls when available along with different types of fishes. This place was the solution I was looking for to replace meat cravings and replace with seafood during Good Friday feast. This is definitely the place if you like it crustaceans and fish cooked or raw in SF. Inside Sun Fat Seafood you find some raw fish "fillet" to make your meal for " Good Friday" as some will "pray" and enjoy the fresh catch of seafood in San Francisco city by the "Bay" It's almost Good Friday so I feel "bless "I am alive and remembering those who passed away in peace may they "rest" I walk the streets of the Mission I "reminisce" and honor them on Good Friday feast as I eat some crab that's "Dungeness"
