My teeth were falling apart! This was how I felt as two crowns had fallen off, one the night before, I could feel where other fillings had fallen out and I had a brown front tooth, part of a temporary fix I had gotten while visiting Central America when my front tooth fell apart. I had gone to my doctor for an ophthalmologist referral and ended up asking for a dental referral as well.
My doctor is located close to Steveston in Richmond and my husband and I were planning on going into Steveston for some plants for our garden after my doctor's appointment so we figured we'd check out this dentist. We found the Dental office upstairs on Chatham in one of the little strip malls.
We were greeted by Bonnie the receptionist and new patient intake and my husband checked to be sure that our dental plan would be accepted and they would bill direct. Yes to both questions so we began filling out our new patient forms, when the dentist Dr. James Cadigan returned from lunch. He stopped to say 'Hi and welcome and to get a bit of our story". As we were completing the forms and setting up our fist appointments, He cane back and said, "Hey my patient is running late why don't we take some x-rays so I can see what is going on." 10 seconds later I'm in the dental chair and being draped in the radiation prevention apron. Appropriate x-rays were taken and less than a minute later Dr. James, as he likes to be called, is showing me what he saw. He then outlines how he thinks we can deal with my dental challenges. The biggie was that he reassured me that things were not as bad as I thought. What a Relief!
First thing he wanted to do was get rid of the brown on my front tooth so I could smile again. Yes!
Then of course would start working our way through my cavities while we waited for the carrier to approve the replacement of the crowns and tell us how much of that expense they would cover.
His patient arrived and I had my first appointment set up for 5 days later. They would have fit me in the next day but it was my birthday and we had plans so I went with the Wednesday appointment.
Wow the relief I felt was enormous! This was such a caring doctor, he'd even assured me that a lot of the cavities could be filled and worked on without freezing! I don't know how he knew I HATED FREEZING but I usually struggled to get dentists to do this sort of thing without freezing.
Of course if you like freezing, or it is a big problem, freezing is available.
Anyway, I am really looking forward to Wednesday and getting back to having a front tooth that I am not embarrassed to show people. I am also so pleased to have found a caring dentist. I felt like the whole office was filled with caring people. Such a great feeling!
All I can tell you is try this dentist. I think you'll love him and his staff.
I'll add updates as I go through these various procedures but I know I'm in good hands. read more
