The…read moreisland is 1.5 miles off of my boat dock and our kids love going there and hunting starfish and shells. It's more fun on the weekends but also more crowd. Dozens and dozens of boats will beach and anchor there put up tents and umbrellas and barbecue and just basically hang out. Rumor is beer can Island is privately owned and the person who owns it doesn't care if you party there. We have actually camped out there with campfire several times overnight. Labor Day, Fourth of July, Father's Day, and other weekends holidays are very popular. If you want to get a spot for your boat on one of these holidays I suggest showing up very early like eight or 9 AM. On the south east side of the island is a small cove with Deepwater where we pull up on our 32 foot express. We can basically beach the boat in that spot and still have plenty of water for the engines. When you're waiting around on the sandbar be sure to do the "stingray shuffle". Scoot your feet as you walk it's cooler to stingray to get out of your way so he won't step on them.

I joined FBC in July/August timeframe 2024. Then divorce happened. No one to boat with so I…read morecancelled my membership only after sales pressure to keep it going in a frozen state. I basically had to find out how to cancel on my own as no representatives will help you. Then after cancellation I kept getting monthly charges. When confronted, FBC said I had not paid all of my initiation fees and that I owed around 2K. So then I paid the remaining 2K and they turned around and refunded it a week latter. So today I get an email and they say they had another error and they wanted to tell me they were going to charge my account again. They also said the monthly charge will be corrected as well so it looks like they are still charging me monthly too. FREEDOM BOAT CLUB and BRUNSWICK who owns them are awful. Nothing against Alafia River but so tired the account mismanagement with FBC and Brunswick.

And worst of all, we were only 15 minutes late due to the long "No Wake" channel that you have to drive through and the distance from Downtown to Ruskin AND they still charged us $50. That is crappy customer service in my book especially after paying $430 + tax and $200 for gas (which is more than double the amount of gas we used!). Definitely will not be using them again!

Great place to spend and afternoon at the beach! There is a great playground right next to the…read morebeach and some great spots on each side to go fishing. There are 3-4 large pavilions on the beach, along with grills. There are a couple of volleyball courts as well. Showers and restrooms are located near the entrance/exit of the parking lot. A word of caution - there are some sharks in the waters, so you don't want to venture out past the no swimming signs that are clearly posted in the water. Two downsides to this location - there are no waves (I know that's no ones fault!) and the sand/beach area isn't maintained by a staff, so there is grass growing very close to the beach. One could argue that you get that "natural" beach feeling, so to each their own.

The two gentlemen Aaron and Daryl were very nice and informative. It was very chilly so bring a jacket if going after summer . For me it was just ok a little boring boat went very slow and the scenery seemed to be all the same . The boat needs some sprucing up for sure . The other boats available at that marina were far nicer and seemed more comfortable. Would i recommend this boat tour? Yes but I do think there's better options .

Unfortunately the day we booked ended up being too cold (64 degrees on the water with wind chill is much too cold for an older woman and a toddler). We informed this company that we would have a toddler and older women on this trip prior to payment or contract signings. When we attempted to reschedule for a different day we were told "it's not that cold" and "nobody else has complained" and that "it's going to be 75" and yes it was 75 but on mainland. Anyone who knows anything remotely about being on the water or marine life should know that it's always colder offshore. Then after we complied with this company and adhered to their rules saying that we would still make it work and SIGNED A CONTRACT. They then told us 45 minutes after signing our contract that they decided that they don't want to go through with us being on their boat because "they don't know who they're renting their 40,000$ boat to" as a business you cannot go back on a contract after having us sign it and taking payment information . Do NOT book with this company as they DO NOT have a welcoming staff. I attempted to call and speak to a manager or supervisor and I was met with someone telling me that I should call their direct number but they never gave it to me. Then they attempted to put me on hold and forgot to press mute and I heard one of their employees call me stupid for calling and then everyone else laugh as they hung up the phone on me after telling me they would go get a manager . AND THEN BLOCKED MY NUMBER when I attempted to call back. This business will be reported to the Better Business Bureau immediately . Just pure and utter unprofessionalism on all fronts .
