As we arrive at the shore, the captain, Captain Tom, spotted us from afar and gave us a very welcoming greeting. He took pictures for us in front of the ship and tells us everything we need to know about the trip. The crew was amazing and very attentive. The weather was a little chilly today so Patrick, the superstar crew member, very kindly offered his spare hoodies to my friends who are freezing. We didn't catch any strip bass today, but we did manage to catch many blue fish. They are huge and really quite delicious. Ah yes! So once you have a fish on hook, the crew will help you pull it out of the water, and at the end fillet them for you. The fishing experience was really easy and relaxing because the crew is there to help with untangling the strings or helping us putting on baits. The bathroom was extremely clean and the indoor space is dry and comfortable. I like the fact that they have a separate restroom for the ladies, it is very considerate. This is my 3rd time fishing with the Atlantic Star and I'll definitely come back with more friends. Tips: - don't forget to tip the crew members well when you exit the ship, they worked really hard! - they have everything you need on board, just walk in and be prepared to catch some fish! - good for family with kids too

I would agree with Antonio G. The store owner is rude and obnoxious. I purchased a rod from him…read more It is a decent rod but he spined the rod wrong. The natural bend (inside curve) is facing up, not down, when there's a fish in the line. This can lead to the rod breaking. I didn't realize this until a year later (after which I became more knowledgeable about fishing rod construction). I figured it wasn't worth complaining to the store owner given his personality. Just not someone I wanted to deal with. Aside from the rudeness of the store owner and his shoddy spining of the rod, the materials from the guides to the blanks are not worth the price of the rod. The workmanship on the rod is not bad but not at all fancy. There are much better rod builders out there. Garone Custom Rods (builds a beautiful rod but more expensive) and Joey's Rod Building (comparable price unless customized).

Best Fishing Trip in Years!…read more I come back to Jersey twice a year from Arizona -- born and raised here, moved away 26 years ago. What I miss most is the fishing. Over the past 10 years, I've taken full-day trips on charter boats out of Point Pleasant and Belmar, but always left disappointed. That changed this year. I went out with Down Deep out of Keyport, and it was hands-down the best trip I've had in a long time. The boat may be small, but it's mighty -- well-run, organized, and focused on putting you on the fish. We went out for sea bass, and I came home with 9 sea bass, 2 ling, and a fluke. Incredible. The crew was helpful and hardworking, and the whole experience brought back exactly what I've been missing all these years. This is now the only boat I'll fish on until my sea legs give out.
