I've had several fish 'n' chips places around Brisbane, including The Salt & Battery in St. Lucia, as well as Fish Market in Dutton Park. So far, I think that Riverside does the best job frying up their fish 'n' chips, but Fish Market does make the plate more colorful with a mini salad on the side. Riverside does a lunch special of the cod fish with hot chips and a canned drink for $10, and it's loaded with hot chips to fill you up! I couldn't finish them... The batter for the cod had an amazing mouthfeel, as it wasn't over-fried or soggy, and the fish was definitely fresh. I didn't try any other fishes, so I can't vouch for them, but the calamari seems to be quite popular. The sauces (tartare, etc.) are an extra $1.5-2.0, but totally worth it! My tartare sauce was perfect. They were friendly and pretty attentive, so that's always a plus. This isn't a place to go for ambience, but it is definitely a go-to if you're a fan of seafood! The only downside is that going by public transportation takes quite a while...

The sauce prices are ridiculous. All of this is in consideration of the fish and chips store just round the corner which is cheaper and tastier. No okestop

For those of you like me, this may be three to four nights a week. So let me fill you in on this little secret, The Flying Fish Indooroopilly is a fantastic little local fish and chips shop you can take advantage of on those nights you couldn't give a fish. For the solo diners out there look no further then the $8 lunch deal that includes a massive piece of fish and a mountain of chips. Please note that the "lunch" deals are offered all day and all night... don't ask me why it's called the "lunch deal". Each meal is served with a small little container of tartar sauce, so you may want to make sure you have plenty of your favorite sauces at home to assist you in attacking that humungous portion of chips. I won't lie to you, I haven't really tried any of the family packs but I have tremendous faith that they'll be great value as the lunch meals really do blow my mind. The food itself is pretty good. Due to my preoccupation with value my critique isn't particularly detailed in terms of the fish's quality, however I am certain that it is somewhere between average and not so bad. At the end of the day you're only paying $8 anyway. This being said, it may not be as great as those sensational little fish and chip shops one finds along the beach on holiday - but need I remind you that you're not on holidays, you just can't be bothered cooking. I'll admit that I was a little addicted to The Flying Fish Indooroopilly for a few weeks. In fact I was so addicted that the staff there started to recognize me and preempt my order, which I think is great, if not a little sad on my behalf. Overall, this is a fantastic little takeaway joint with incredible value for money.

The thought of fish and chips often conjure images of TGIF/Applebees/etc or frozen entrees for me…read more A Salt & Battery showed me what real fish and chips suppose to be like. Wishing for the whole deal, I opted for the fried food platter which consisted of fried fish, fried calamari rings, fried scallop, fried shrimp, and french fries. First of all, this isn't beer battered, it was breaded. Secondly, this is a lot of food for one person... The chips were pretty standard fare, crispy and lightly seasoned. Fish was fresh, doesn't have the frozen taste that I'm all too (unfortunately) accustomed to. The calamari rings came with 2 variety, one was the standard breading and the other had an unique seasoning to it that I couldn't place. Anyway all this fried food was completely offset the truly authentic greek salad of cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, olives, feta cheese all topped with olive oil. Order and pay at the counter, take the number, sit down, wait 15 minutes for food. The staff were friendly and helpful, but were quite busy with busing the tables, taking orders, and bringing the food out. They only have outdoor seating. On nights with a slight breeze like the night I came, it was a great experience. However I can't imagine coming here during the summers when it regularly hits the low 30C. I just need that AC.

Affectionately known as Salt 'n' Bat, this Fish and Chip shop is frequented by ravenous uni students and St Lucia locals. It is a BYO venue which means you will often find a table of 20 or so college kids escaping bad dining hall food while charging up for a night out at the RE. While Salt 'n' Bat is clearly a uni kid hang out, its tasty menu (especially the awesome battered chips and Salt and Pepper Squid) attracts a more diverse crowd. Anyone aching for some good fish and chips will find this restaurant to their liking. They also have an impressive range of Boylan vintage sodas, my favourite of which is the traditional tasting root beer. Salt 'n' Bat is dine in or take away. If you are dining in, however, don't expect anything fancy as you will be seated in red or blue plastic chairs with a white plastic table. Nonetheless, the good food (and hopefully good company you keep) is enough to make Salt 'n' Bat a fine place to eat.

The deep fried 'delicacies' presented in the long fridges look good enough to eat while raw. They keep their display stocks looking plump and plentiful. I don't think I've ogled a dim sim quite like I have while at Rainworth Seafoods. The fish is fantastic. Your fish will cost you between $4- $8 depending on what you get. You can get it crumbed, battered or grilled (GRILLED YAY!). Health nuts who are on a bit of an indulgent splurge will be happy to know that they only use cholesterol free cooking oil. They've got your seriously old school classics like chiko rolls ($2.40), battered sav ($2.40), pineapple fritters ($1.20), and crumbed sausage ($2.40) up for grabs. Now, I don't know exactly what a 'seafood bite' is (6 for $4.50), but I'm sure if the folks at Rainworth Seafoods cook it, it would be a tasty explosion. I will finish on the obligatory rating of the fat bombs (chips). The minimum is $2.50, and that's a generous serving.
