Barb Scully Oysters. Her oysters are so superior. Really the ne plus ultra! Overnight delivered in pristine condition. Every Single Time

Barbara Scully is The Oyster Boss in my world. She delivers overnight the most amazing oysters I have had anywhere in the world. I remember my first oysters at 16 and at 76 I have found the ne plus ultra. She gets it right every single time.

Amazing oysters. Right from the river. Where they may lack in personality, they make up for having the best and freshest oysters I've had in a very long time. They have cut gloves and oyster knives for sale, as well. Those things are very overpriced, but the oysters were very fairly priced and fantastic! We WILL be back!!

    The honor code is unique

I mean, if you're going to give this family run oyster farm any less than 5 stars, you must be a terrible person. Glidden Point is a charming little shack on a rolling green lawn that sits between two homes on River Road. It's a modest operation for grab and go oysters and lobsters, and they're some of the most prized seafood items anywhere in Southern Maine. Huge, mildly briny bivalves that'll set you back just $1.50 per oyster. It's the stuff dreams are made of. Perhaps the most notable feature of this small business is their honor code system. If they're out fishing for your dinner and you stop by, you just take what you want, drop some cash, and leave a note documenting your haul. If that's not what our forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence for, I not sure why they set ink to paper at all.

7 1/4 lbs of lobster for $62 wow!

This is the definition of an authentic Maine lobster hut. The establishment is owned by a local, Barbara Scully, who catches the lobster herself! She's knows a lot about the local waters and told us a lot about the oysters, mussels, lobsters etc. To be clear, this place sells live lobsters and oysters so they do not cook them. This is a great place for shucking raw oysters outdoors though! Some of our group did that a few days before and really enjoyed themselves! There was even plenty of room for their dogs to run about the grass. The location is hard to find because it's tucked away in the road amongst trees and trees. But, once you see it, there's a sign on the road that says Scully's. Google told us we had arrived but it was at least another .5 mile down. We arrived and walked in to see there is a sign that says there is an honor system for the lobster if she is out on the boat. The pricing is listed and there is a scale for you to use to weigh the lobster. Fortunately, Barbara came out of the house and helped us with our purchase. I was a bit afraid of diving into the tank to grab a lobster. Barbara was an expert and handled it all for us. We ended up buying 7 1/4 pounds of lobsters (5 total) for a total of $62. We paid in cash (actually don't think she takes card?) but I didn't ask. She wraps them up neatly in a sturdy paper bag followed by a plastic bag. Wrapped very neat and clean for transporting! A few other people in our group purchased lobster from Barbara as well...maybe another 5 or 6 or so? We brought them back to our air bnb and prepared the lobsters a number of different ways. Some people grilled theirs, some steamed theirs, some baked theirs in the oven, and some even made lobster rolls. Whichever way, they were delicious! The meat was tender and buttery all on it's own. Barbara was very kind and helpful with our group. We will definitely be back again!

    Appledore oysters from Sculley's

Saw Barbara this morning to pick up a bag of oysters before heading home to the mountains in northern New Hampshire. Just shucked and enjoyed at home. These oysters are crisp and clean tasting. We've never had better. Barbara has set the bar by which all the others are measured. If you haven't had them yet, you don't know what you're missing. 80% of Maine's oysters come from the Damariscotta River, and the best come from Sculley's.

    Three Glidden oysters

I agree with the previous reviewer. The oysters here taste great. As a result of their (and others') efforts to farm oysters, natural ones have reemerged in the Damariscotta area. On this visit we had a choice of three sizes. The largest ones are huge and were $2.50 each. ( they are about seven years old). The other two smaller sizes were $1.50 and $1.25 each. The taste is well described by the first reviewer. I have never had fresher. They are easy to find by GPS; there is a blue sign on the road on Route 1 both north and southbound. The sign said honor system but as soon as we arrived, a young man came out of the house to provide service. No rudeness on his part at all; in fact he was quite polite and helpful. He even provided us with free ice. By the way, he had lobsters too- hard shells and shedders (They are lobsters that just shed their shell and the new one is hardening. They yield less meat but have a slightly different, sometimes sweeter taste.). They also sell paraphernalia like oyster knives, if you forgot yours, as well as Glidden t shirts and other souvenir-ish items. Definitely worth the one mile detour from Route 1

Terrific local secret. Excellent oysters, great prices and if you forget your knife, you can buy one there and enjoy oysters sitting on the picnic tables in the summer sun. Not much can compete.

Is it hard to find, can't find on Google maps?

Hi! It's not at all hard to find. There are signs leading you right to the driveway from US Route 1, both northbound and southbound.

New England Seafood spirals me out of course to get basic questions answered to myself of those…read moresimilar questions I ask of myself of in and what's around in the brackish deeper waters or closer to land pluff mud, all below the water and watching us walk past as the men at Casco dig in. I'm transported into a vortex of restaurant going people stuffing crustations down their grills snug in their catacomb tables, lending me to the unproven knowledge to this toil - or so it seems, that when we all eat, we might be missing a lot of what's happened to bring this meal to you. We foodies seem to always get our way - in the federal penitentiary, you never get your way, you NEVER get your (Fing) way - so please, understand that eighty five percent of the world would kill for our problems. . The frenzy and attention to the meal without the background, I think about and behaviors aren't quite unlike the gulls in the big box store lots atop the light posts, what the people do here with their face gullets plunging down and their feeding frenzies of cheap one liners. The gulls are missing their experiences because they're no longer down by the dock, they're inland - they're in St. Louis. I know first hand because I driven (not flown over or into) The Gateway to the West, I'm seeing these large birds all the time - they're are all around - I'm on their turf and we both know it. Fortunately, I've not had to throw hands with a hungry goose over an lost and unlucky little bagel. My guys whose names I mentioned in the photos and will add in, they throw down daily freshness from Casco Bay to you - buy you hesitate when buying retail seafood, you out of towners - and by "you" I am referring to Me. Let your conscience be your guide, real all of Mr. Alarming's reviews - pour it into a bottle and add some Bombay Sapphire - chug it down and partake if you are into that because you can up in here and its everywhere and it'll work up your hunger and you'll laugh a bit more than usual and if that's wrong --------- I don't wanna be right.
