The fish is consistently fresh, well filleted, and fairly priced. We are usually flexible on what we pick up for dinner. I usually just ask what is freshest and we have never been disappointed. We also swing by when we are headed home from Port Clyde We get 5-10 lbs of fish, toss it in a cooler loaded with ice, and arrive home 12+ hours later with enough fish and scallops to fill our freezer. The white-haired guy who runs it on the days we have been here this year is friendly and helpful. The hours can be varied so call if you have a bit of a drive or are headed over for something specific. We called to check if they were open a few days ago and confirmed they were. The guy thoughtfully called us back after we talked to clarify that they were out of crab that day in case that's what we were looking for.

But those in the know - tourists and locals alike - ensure that it is always busy, and it seems especially popular with bikers. Most of the rowdiest patrons choose the outdoor pavilion out back. I believe it serves the same menu but it's much louder, especially when there's live music or karaoke. Not my thing so I sit inside. The food is a peculiar mix of typical bar food, New England seafood, and German. Yes, German. Schnitzel, Rinder Rolladen, Goulash, Spaetzle, you'll find all of these. I've tried the Schnitzel, which I got with red cabbage and spaetzle. It was a generous portion and pretty decent. Authentic? Perhaps not. The "German Potato Salad" was regular mayonnaise-based with chopped pickles and bacon. Not that there's anything wrong with that but it's not German Potato Salad. On another occasion I tried the lobster reuben which has lobster instead of corned beef. Good but rather messy to eat from the melted cheese and Thousand Island dressing along with the plentiful lobster. Fries were ok, not outstanding. On a third occasion I tried the crab cakes which was a mistake and I should have known better. Salty, too much Old Bay, lots of filler. Gourmet or "fine dining" this is not. But definitely worth a visit or two or three. But be aware: the "dive bar" atmosphere also extends to the ambience and cleanliness - or lack thereof. The men's room smelled exactly as you might imagine, and the soap and paper towels had both run out. The ice bucket, curiously, was on the customer side of the bar, 6 inches from where I was sitting, separated by a flimsy plexiglass shield. So I advise you to stick to beer or wine - avoid the cocktails. Other than that, it has a fun kitchy feel to it, 70s TV posters, photos of sports celebreties and the like, and too much patriotic decor for my liking. But my waitress was friendly, I've enjoyed my visits, didn't get sick, and would probably go back.

It was one of our last days in Maine and I was on a mission to find the best lobster roll I could…read morefind. When I read the Yelp and Google reviews for this place, I knew I had found my spot. It's a small, no frills spot. The owner is super helpful and friendly. He'll proudly tell you why his lobster roll is the best. He uses claw meat which makes it sweeter. The pieces are very small, so it is loaded with meat. The popular rolls you see use giant chunks of meat, but with all of the space between them, this one actually has more meat even if it doesn't seem like it. And lastly, he uses both butter and mayo on it. I don't think I'll ever find a better lobster roll for the rest of my life. My husband claimed lobster rolls were overrated until we had this one. My only regret is that this was our second stop for food, so my husband and I shared one. To top it all off, this was the cheapest meal we had in Maine. Most places will charge you at least $35-40 for anything that has lobster in it. I think we paid $20-$25 for our roll. Whenever I'm in Maine, I will come here for another lobster roll, no matter how far out of my way I have to go.

She had them flash frozen and we are now completely ruined as far as fresh halibut is concerned :) Great selection of wines and local ciders. The only drawback: the parking lot is bitch to get in and out of (tiny). Stayed in Maine for three months, all over the state. Most restaurants were an epic disappointment.. yes you're cooking it yourself and your wallet will know you were there, but this was worth the effort and every cent!
