Just returned to Cancun for another long dive weekend, and had a spectacular time with Squalo…read moreDivers! Our first day was a 2-tank boat dive. Squalo provided pick-up & drop-off at our hotel, which certainly made the day easier, and Nicholas guided us on 2 fun dives at Jardines and Manchones Grandes. The boat has a lot of shade, which is nice for your surface intervals, and they have plenty of bottled water to help you stay hydrated. Friendly and efficient crew. All in all, a nice day on the water! Our next 2 days were filled with some absolutely incredible Cenote dives with Juan. Again, Squalo provided hotel pick-up, and had also let us store our gear overnight at the shop, which certainly made things much easier than dragging gear back and forth from the hotel, especially with early morning pick-ups. The first day we dived the relatively well-known El Pit and Dos Ojos. Juan was a great guide for these two sites...he provided a comprehensive pre-dive briefing, so everyone felt confident and really enjoyed the dives. He also provided lots of food, snacks and beverages during the day, which was greatly appreciated as the distance can make for a long day. (Special shout-out to our driver, Edgar...appreciate you keeping an eye on our things while we were diving, and raising/lowering gear to the water for us!!) The next day was just me and my friend heading to some lesser-known Cenotes with Juan. We did Zapote and Kin-Ha, which were not only breathtaking dives, but were so empty of divers, that they were basically private dives for us, at both sites. These dives are a little more advanced, but are stunning. In addition, I was also very impressed with the new facilities at both dive sites...in fact, the bathrooms at Zapote were probably the nicest I've seen at a dive site....even counting the US! Juan was both knowledgeable and fun...we had a great time during our day with him. I highly recommend Juan and Squalo Divers....especially for Cenote diving!! Enjoy!!

I was on vacation in Cancún mid November 2017 and a two of my hostel mates invited me to join their…read moredive. I had never been scuba diving before and was quite nervous at the idea of being submerged underwater and surrounded by marine life. However, I'm not one to back down from new and exciting experiences, so I joined with a bit of fear and worry on my mind. We got to Squalo Divers bright and early to begin the in class portion of our diving informational session (two of the three of us didn't have PADI certification). Our in-class instructor, whose name I cannot recall (tall guy who lived in Canada for a bit), was very thorough and explained in great detail the joys and the risks involved in diving. While I appreciated his thoroughness, I became riddled with all of the potential "what ifs" that could go wrong. I just kept thinking about what would happen if I panicked under water and pressed the red button(to inflate my vest) and shot up to the surface of the water. I remained cool, calm and collected on the outside, but my mind was racing all the while the instructor spoke. After the classroom session we made our way over to the hotel to practice in the pool, before heading out to the ocean. We began with simple breathing exercises and slowly made our way underwater to implement our practices. I submerged my head underneath the surface of the water and did exactly what they said not to do (Silly me, I know. Blame it on the nerves!) and held my breath causing me to panic. I quickly gave our field instructor the thumbs up signal indicating that I wanted/needed to go back up. I took my head out of the water and removed the breathing regulator from my mouth. The field instructor rose to the surface and asked what was wrong. My fears had manifested and simultaneously disrupted my thought process. I had become consumed with fear and was so close to quitting (before the real fun even began). I started crying and second guessing if the experience would be worth it. The field instructor reassured me that I would be okay and that I needed to trust myself. I calmed down and began trying again, this time he held my hand (literally) and took me through the process, step by step. I am so grateful for his patience and understanding. I didn't feel judged or like I was wasting his time. I felt comforted and reassured, thus boosting my confidence in trying this new experience. We headed out into the beautiful blue ocean that lies between Cancún and Isla Mujeres and began our dive at the Underwater Museum. We fell backward into the water and made our way down the rope, pressurizing our ears in the process. Once to the bottom, the field instructor ( all the praise for an incredible amount of patience) held my hand and guided me around until I felt comfortable exploring on my own. We swam around, exploring for a bit, viewing the museum and all of the cool "ship wrecked" pieces that were underwater. Our second dive was at beautiful coral reef ( I kept thinking of Finding Nemo and secretly hoped to see a Clown Fish, a Pacific Blue Tang and an anemone. I realized afterwards that I was in the wrong part of the world see those little fishies, lol.) that was bursting with marine life. We saw a sting ray, numerous species of fish including several schools, a beautiful little turtle and much more. At the end of our dives I was incredibly happy with my choice to go through and live this new experience. I cannot imagine having my first dive with any other Scuba Diving company. Due to the incredible experience that I had, I plan to get my PADI certification on my next vacation in Thailand or somewhere that I can see our beloved Disney - Pixar fish friends - Nemo and Dory. A million "thank yous", Squalo Divers, you all made my first diving experience one that I'll never forget. Be well and happy diving!

We had a good experience with BD Experience (or "BDExperience"), a business line of Best Day Travel…read moreGroup, based in Cancun. I'm surprised to see an average 2.2-star Yelp rating for this business (137 reviews), at the time of writing this review. Our experience was a solid four stars. Side note: Based on some of the pictures here, I'm also surprised to see that Best Day Travel hosted what appeared to be an official Yelp event back in March 2016. My wife and I booked a vacation package to Grand Velas Riviera Maya resort, located in Playa del Carmen, through Costco Travel. As part of that package, BD Experience was our ground transportation between Cancun International Airport and the resort. The arrival and departure transfers went well. Both ways, we were safely and efficiently transported in nice, air-conditioned, private vans with music. Each way, it was just us and a dedicated driver. Getting from the airport to Grand Velas took about 45 minutes. The return trip from Grand Velas to the airport took less time, about 35 minutes. Upon arrival to Cancun and exiting the airport, it was very easy to spot the BD Experience employees holding Costco Travel signs. There were many BD Experience employees, wearing red shirts, and BD Experience branded vehicles. This appeared to be a popular service with a lot of American customers waiting in groups, clustered near the vans. We waited about 5-10 minutes outside before we were led to a van, our luggage loaded in, and on our way. Going to the resort, we rode in a BD Experience branded van. Going back to the airport, we were picked up in a sleek, luxurious, black Mercedes van. Both drivers were great. One of the drivers spoke very little English while the other spoke good English. Communication with BD Experience was done via WhatsApp. I mostly messaged with BD Experience's business account at +52 998 321 5963. I also messaged with Hugo Figueroa regarding our departure confirmation. I had a pleasant experience with Hugo. We had a good laugh about my WhatsApp profile picture with "Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Woooo! But seriously, everything with BD Experience went smoothly. Pickup times and other details were well communicated in advance. We had no issues. Bring cash to tip your driver. I suggest $5-10 USD each way. Tip more if you have a larger party with lots of luggage. In case we had any issues, Costco Travel gave us the following phone number for BD Experience: +52 998 113 1814. Avoid BD Experience -- Especially If You're Traveling with Kids or Want a Stress-Free Trip…read more We recently traveled to Cancun and booked BD Experience as part of a Travelocity package. I strongly advise avoiding this company if you're traveling with children or simply want a smooth, reliable experience. To confirm your shuttle, you're required to reach out to BD Experience about 24 hours in advance -- but they don't make it easy. You have to contact them through WhatsApp Business, and even then, they redirect you to a different number because the first one supposedly has issues. I followed the instructions and confirmed our arrival. No one ever reached out to me directly. Upon arrival in Cancun, we located their kiosk and were told to wait 30 minutes. Eventually, we -- along with several other groups -- were shuttled to our resorts without issue. The problems began the day before our return flight. I messaged them to confirm our pickup, only to be told that our booking only included a one-way trip to the resort. This was incorrect -- my itinerary clearly showed a round-trip transfer. I even sent them a screenshot as proof. Still, they insisted I contact Travelocity to obtain specific voucher numbers. After wasting time tracking those down, BD Experience finally acknowledged our round-trip booking. I requested a 10:00 AM pickup for our 1:00 PM flight. They refused, saying we had to leave at 9:00 AM because another guest was scheduled at that time and we'd have to share the shuttle. This change effectively cut short our last day -- our kids couldn't even use the pool before leaving. We were ready in the lobby by 8:30 AM. Multiple shuttle drivers arrived and called out guest names, but no one ever called ours. By 9:10, still no driver. I messaged BD Experience -- no reply. Ten more minutes went by. I asked the Hilton staff for help. One kind employee tried calling BD Experience (he speaks Spanish), but they didn't answer. At 10:14 AM, an hour after our scheduled pickup, BD finally responded via WhatsApp saying the driver was there and we weren't -- a complete lie. They didn't even attempt to send another vehicle, just told me to contact Travelocity for a refund. At that point, we were stranded with two small kids and no ride to the airport -- and already late. Thankfully, the Hilton staff stepped up. One of the lobby attendants (guy in a black t-shirt -- please thank him!) called us a taxi, which cost us $60 USD. We barely made it to the airport on time. If I hadn't insisted on leaving early, we might have missed our flight -- with a 3- and 5-year-old in tow. Can you imagine missing your flight, having to rebook last-minute, possibly being separated from your children during seating? Travelocity -- why are you partnering with a company that provides such unreliable service? BD Experience -- you caused us stress, wasted our time, and left us scrambling with young kids. If anyone wants proof, I have the WhatsApp chat log.
