Captain Fred grilled us delicious cheeseburgers off the side of his boat while we swam...to the jealousy of the other boats who smelled the grilled deliciousness! He also kept a cooler of drinks for us too. Best part? Captain Fred was so laid back and wasn't on any exact timeframe! Truly a choose your own adventure...we were able to spend more time swimming or snorkeling or exploring the beach. This was a great 4 hour adventure without worrying about a timeline. This trip was the highlight of our FL trip!

Robert at Depth Perception made me feel very comfortable so we booked with them. The communication prior to arrival was excellent we knew what to expect coming in from out of state. Once we met him in person I knew we had made the right choice. Robert is a GREAT instructor. He took the time to get to know my daughter's level of comfort in and out of the water. He is very patient, his tone of voice is very level so super easy to understand and he is very knowledgeable. I noticed that he was respected at both dive sites we went to. Went out with Blue Water Explorers recently with a dive group I belong to. They don't go out very…read morefar, and the shelf off of Bradenton is a pretty shallow grade, so you don't get deep water with this boat (at least we didn't on this trip)! And in the Gulf, the deeper you go, the better the viz typically. First dive max depth was 46 feet, viz was not great.. maybe 6 to 8 feet if I am generous... and there weren't many critters on the ledge, hunted or fished out or so it looked. Second dive... max depth of 40 feet. Skyway stuff bridge rubble. More critters, and did find one nice scorpion fish. Mostly smaller fish, and lots of baitfish in the area too. Viz was surprisingly better.. maybe 12 foot. The boat captain cut the dive short at 40 minutes... banging a weight on the ladder to bring us up. Used the weather as the reason, even though it was even better than when we started the dive. Guess she wanted to get home. DM was great, very friendly and helpful. Boat was pretty crowded... and kind of expensive (in my opinion) for this type of diving. They don't give a discount if you bring your own tanks either. They provided AIR, not Nitrox... which for those depths is fine... but again, for what they charge... I was surprised. I might go out with them again... but probably not. There are other boats closer, that are cheaper... and get you out to clearer water.

We went out with…read moreBlue Water Explorers to see the manatees in Crystal River and he made the cold weather bearable. We've been on several dive charters and have rarely received the level of social interaction and helpfulness that was offered by Bob. As an example, our hands were so cold that we were having difficulty setting up our diving gear. Rather than just sit and watch he stepped in and helped us set up so we could get going sooner. He also brought flashlights for us without looking for any kind of compensation. Can't wait to try one of his Gulf dives!
