He also kept a cooler of drinks for us too. Best part? Captain Fred was so laid back and wasn't on any exact timeframe! Truly a choose your own adventure...we were able to spend more time swimming or snorkeling or exploring the beach. This was a great 4 hour adventure without worrying about a timeline. Choosing Clint at Unique Scuba was the best decision my husband and I made. He is knowledgeable, personable, and teaches you EXACTLY what you need to know to have a safe and exciting time diving. My husband I both work full time and Clint was able to work with our hectic schedules. I loved the fact that we didn't have to buy anything prior to our class (because I have no idea what brands are good etc). The online app for the class is very detailed and then the pool /dive time with Clint is where he teaches you how to dive in real life. And in the Gulf, the deeper you go, the better the viz typically. First dive max depth was 46 feet, viz was not great.. maybe 6 to 8 feet if I am generous... and there weren't many critters on the ledge, hunted or fished out or so it looked. Second dive... max depth of 40 feet. Skyway stuff bridge rubble. More critters, and did find one nice scorpion fish. Mostly smaller fish, and lots of baitfish in the area too. Viz was surprisingly better.. maybe 12 foot. The boat captain cut the dive short at 40 minutes... banging a weight on the ladder to bring us up. Used the weather as the reason, even though it was even better than when we started the dive. Guess she wanted to get home. DM was great, very friendly and helpful. Boat was pretty crowded... and kind of expensive (in my opinion) for this type of diving. They don't give a discount if you bring your own tanks either. They provided AIR, not Nitrox... which for those depths is fine... but again, for what they charge... I was surprised. I might go out with them again... but probably not. There are other boats closer, that are cheaper... and get you out to clearer water.

Booking was super easy and the rental process was thoroughly explained. We invited two other couples to join us and found the pontoon boat that we chose to be spacious and comfortable for the six of us and one dog. We arrived around 8:45am to check in and carry our belongings down to the dock where everything was loaded into the boat for us which was nice. We were then given an explanation of the area map and a tour of the boat. We had an amazing day on the water where we saw several dolphins, found dozens of sand dollars, parked at some sandbars and caught a few fish. We arrived back at the dock at 5:00pm and unloaded our stuff onto the dock where it was loaded into a cart and wheeled to our vehicles for us which we really appreciated. The fine folks at Cortez Watersports were friendly and catered to us beyond our expectations. We would definitely visit them again and highly recommend that you consider them for your next on the water outing.
