Passage Key Dolphin Tour was the HIGHLIGHT of our trip to the South Tampa/Bradenton area. Dolphins don't just swarm boats in South Florida, unless your boat captain knows where and when they are most active, and Captain Bruce was phenomenal. Bruce knows where the dolphins hang out. We were within 15 feet of a few of them and I'm not entirely sure the dolphins weren't checking US out, as much as we were watching them. We booked our morning excursion about two weeks in advance, and we were lucky -- typically a Sunday Morning time slot with Passage Key is booked more in advance but he was able to get us in. We snorkeled from the boat near the remains of Fort Dade (just across from Fort Desoto). Coming from Wisconsin, we didn't have snorkel gear of our own, but Bruce had all the things we needed, including a quick lesson in using a mask and snorkel for the kiddos who had not done anything like that before.I've been snorkeling around Florida and most places aren't all that impressive, but some of these hidden gems are known to a few local captains - and that's what set this trip apart from others. We then went on to collect some shells in the shallows of Passage Key, and saw more dolphins while wading to the shore area. Bruce has an extra large cooler on the boat to ensure that a days worth of refreshments are only an arms reach away. It was hot, but nobody seemed to mind it. My only regret is that we didn't book a second day out on the water with Captain Bruce. I saw there were definitely cheaper group tour options with other companies, I have NO REGRETS about paying a little more and getting a private tour with Passage Key Dolphin Tours. Would do it all again tomorrow if I were still down there! Book Early! read more

I wasn't expecting the WoW when I booked a tour with Captain Bruce to see dolphins. He took me to Passage Key where I enjoyed taking pictures of the seagulls and pelicans. The crystal clear waters were so inviting that I jumped in without hesitation and was greeted with soft sand beneath my toes and comfortable sea water temperatures that was waist high. I ventured towards the beach and found tons of perfect sand dollars and beautiful untouched seashells! After hours of sea shell collecting and lunch we headed back to look for dolphins. We saw pods of dolphins all over and was lucky enough to see a manta ray, as well. All in all, this day would not have occurred if I hadn't booked with Captain Bruce. We had an awesome morning with Captain Bruce. He was a great captain and tour guide and really knows his stuff. We had 6 adults and the boat was spacious and comfortable. Captain Bruce customized the 2 hour tour to what we wanted to see. He took us to an eagle's nest, which was awesome, but the highlight of the trip was the dolphins playing in the wake of the boat. Captain Bruce is an expert in knowing how to get the dolphins to surf the wake (see video!). We didn't see any other tour boats in the area doing that. He was successful in getting them to surf the boat wake several times! So much fun! Spend a few dollars more and get your own customized private tour. read more

I can't even begin to tell you how amazing of a trip we had with Captain Bruce! This by far was the best one our family has ever done. Bruce is very knowledgeable and polite. The boat is so nice and even has a bathroom! Spending the day looking at dolphins and swimming on the sandbar was awesome, but talking with this man was one of the best parts. We took a 2 hour dolphin and mantee trip with Captain Bruce. The weather was not in our favor with strong winds and cool temperatures but Captain Bruce did a great job still finding both mantees and numerous pods of dolphins. The boat was very spacious and comfortable for all 6 of us. Captain Bruce's stories and knowledge of wildlife and the area made every minute enjoyable. read more

My family and I highly recommend Passage Key for dolphin viewing and snorkeling! I've never seen so many dolphins up close. Bruce and Keko were great hosts. We had a great trip this morning with Captain Bruce! We got to see a few pods of dolphins, and my kids just loved being out on the water looking at the other boats and finding the dolphins! My family and I had a lovely Dolphin & Sunset Cruise with Captain Bruce. We witnessed how mother dolphins teach their little ones how to fish, viewed an Eagle feeding in a nest (on a private, pretty cove) and then the sunset did not disappoint! We just got back with Bruce. We had the absolute best time. His boat was amazing and he was so knowledgeable! We snorkeled, saw manatees and lots of dolphins they were even playing in the wake of our boat.
