This is our second year with Captain Kim's tours and we toured with the Captain, herself. It was very windy and choppy, but we saw a ton of dolphins and she scooped up plenty of critters for us to examine. We went to a sand bar and scooped up live sand dollars (carefully) and a huge whelk and whelk eggs. It was a very different tour than last year, but she was so adaptable and obviously knows the area/ is incredibly knowledgeable about the bay, the homes along the water, and all the animals within. We had SO much fun on our combination tour with Connie! She was great! We found so many cool shells and creatures! We caught crabs and starfish and did get to see some dolphins. We was looking for something to do on the water and our boat was at home so we bumped into captain Kim and it was shear luck we found the best charter captain ever. Like the SS Minnow we took a three hour tour. She knows the best places to swim. She interacted with us swimming and taught us about the water and wildlife. Our highlight of our week in Anna Maria island was our time with Captain Kim's charters. We did a sunset cruise with Captain Guy and had so much fun we did another cruise the next evening AND a full day eco trip all day Friday to Egmont Key with Captain Guy. We saw dolphins, manatees, pelicans, turtles, sea horses! It was so fun and laid back. The colors in the sunsets here look like a painting. We had a phenomenal time with our tour guide, Guy (I think that was his name!). We did the two hour tour of dolphins, marine life, then went and looked for sea urchins and sand dollars. We saw dolphins and manatees up close. He was extremely informative and a very fun person to be around! This review is a bit tardy but I want to commend Captain Kim's charters for an awesome sunset boat tour on our last trip to Anna Maria island. My hubby and i had a great time. We brought some beer, wine and snacks and the boat was about 75% full. Lots of other fun guests on our trip. We went on an ecology boat tour with our two year old and it was awesome! We got to see and hold tiny sea creatures including starfish, shrimp, pipe fish, and scallops. We came to this beautiful island for the first time last month. We did a bunch of fun things with the kids (mote marine, Sarasota jungle gardens, South florida museum, etc) but this Ecology tour was by far the best thing we did. Kim is so knowledgeable anna so patient with the kids. She showed us dolphins and told us how they hunted their fish by cornering them in this little cove. Then she took us to a shallow area and pulled up some seaweed in a net. We all sat on the floor of the boat and she started pulling the grass apart. All of a sudden we saw tiny crabs, star fish, seahorses, sand dollars, hermit crabs, shrimp, and more. My kids were holding them and we were all fascinated. It was really cool. Then she took us to another area and pulled up huge conch shells as big as my husband's head! It was a really informative, educational, and fun experience! read more

She did find is dolphins right away which was great, but the rest of the tour included so much interesting information about the ecology, history, and politics of the area. My boyfriends and I went about a month also and not only was Captain Kim very nice but the tour was amazing! We were able to see dolphins, fish, got to a sand bar and find sand dollars. The two-hour excursion that my family had on Captain Kim's Charter Boat was the highlight of our entire week-long vacation on Anna Maria Island. First, Captain Kim took us (two adults and two children, ages 3 and 6) out to a sandbar, where we exited the boat into the shallow water to scoop up sand dollars, crabs, and other sea life in provided nets. Captain Kim was very patient with the children, explaining all sorts of interesting facts about the ocean and the sea creatures, while allowing time for them to also explore on their own. Next, we headed out to look for manatee and dolphins. Unfortunately we did not see any dolphins/manatee that day, but we soon traveled over to a wild bird sanctuary island to see various wild birds. While there, Captain Kim continued the educational portion of the charter by collecting sea horses, star fish, and other sea life for the children to look at and hold. The highlight of this portion for my son and me was holding the small starfish in our hands. The price for all of this was just $90 (my youngest was free [no charge for 3 and under]). We enjoyed the excursion so much that we already have a repeat charter on Captain Kim's boat scheduled into our vacation next year. read more
