    Kenma: First Meeting!
    Michaela S.

I seriously can't say enough good things about Scruffy's! I paid my first visit to the cafe with some friends not too long after they first opened, and then again during a Valentine's Day event featuring some other local businesses. Both times, I was met with the warmest welcome, the nicest employees, and the sweetest kitties! I was so excited to learn about this place opening, as I had only ever visited a cat cafe during the time I went to school in Japan, and it was one of my favorite experiences. So to find out that a cat cafe would be opening so close to me was a real treat! The cafe's layout is so calm and cozy. Plenty of comfy places to relax or study and hang out with the kitties! They also serve lots of yummy drinks and treats, and even have a cute collection of cat-themed items you can buy up front! All the cat residents are very well cared for and seem to have lots of toys and trees to interact with. The best part about this cafe, however, is that it hosts adoptable cats from the humane society! I think it's a great opportunity for these sweet kitties to bond with visitors and find their forever home.~ I also have to mention that Scruffy's is the place where I adopted my sweet boy, Kenma! The adoption process was very smooth and the owner was so kind to answer my questions over the phone. I instantly connected with this little cat, and I'm happy to say that it's been an amazing ~5 months since his gotcha day! I had been going through a very tough time, and adopting Kenma was the best possible thing I've ever done. He is my best friend, and I am so grateful to Scruffy's for bringing us together. Overall, Scruffy's is a fantastic cat cafe with an amazing mission. If you ever need a place to unwind or spend time with friendly company, this is the place for you. I've been meaning to write this review for ages, and I'm glad I finally got around to it! I'd give it 10 stars if I could! P.S. Here are some photos of Kenma! The first one is from when we met at the cafe for the first time, and the second is my most recent picture of him, now in his forever home! :)

Cute place! Lots of cats to hang out with! We had a great time. Such a cool idea, there were snacks and a coffee shop inside too.

Please be careful when adopting from this shelter!!!!!! This shelter and attached vet clinic does…read morenot do what their website clearly states they do. We adopted a 7 month old cat who was supposed to have all of her shots and vaccines up to date, we later came to find out she was not given a shot or tested for Feline Leukemia. We found this out after the workers had us take our resident cat, Mina, to their clinic to be tested for the disease. When we took Mina to their clinic they accidentally gave her the vaccine instead of the test, WHICH IS NOT WHAT WE BROUGHT HER FOR OR WANTED! We decided that it wasn't a big enough deal to stop us from going through with the adoption of Melanie (now Riley). Shortly after bringing our new baby home we discovered she was breathing abnormally and had an extensive amount of eye mucous. After a vet visit we were told she had an upper respiratory infection, also not a huge deal...it happens! However, this was not the last of our troubles. While at the vet he asked us if the HSTV had given us records of Riley having the feline leukemia test/vaccine, which they hadn't. My boyfriend, John, went back to the shelter to retrieve these records which we figured they had just forgotten to give to us since it states on their website that "ALL HSTV CATS HAVE BEEN TESTED FOR FELINE LEUKEMIA VIRUS...". We were wrong! He was told that they had no records of this test being performed on Riley. They only had a record of her mother being tested, meaning other kittens from this litter are potentially in danger of contracting the illness. The shelter then offered to test her for free as though they were doing us a favor! This being AFTER we exposed not only our resident cat but also my mothers cat to Riley. THANKFULLY Riley tested negative for Leukemia. However, this does not and should not take these neglectful workers off the hook. Not only did my boyfriend have to take time off work to deal with this situation but the manager, Lisa, did not even have the common courtesy to speak with me after I had come to in voice my concerns. I did, however, find Kayla very helpful and I feel very sorry that her manager pawned the dirty work off to her and made her return my phone call. I hope that any potential foster parent or adopting family reads this and takes extra precaution when adopting from this shelter. I do not want to discourage any adoptions from taking place, for the sake of the homeless animals, but I do hope that this post makes other people aware of the type of service they will receive when adopting at this humane society. I also hope that the families who adopted Rileys siblings find this post and make sure their kittens have the proper tests/vaccines completed.

Central Vet (Mill rd.) had been a breath of fresh air for my family!…read more We are NOT your average pet owners; both my wife and myself have been in veterinary/shelter medicine for 2 decades. We have done it all! Veterinary practice management, licensed veterinary technician, shelter adoptions manager, lead shelter behavior specialist, dog trainer, and canine physical rehabilitation (PT for dogs). I am a Certified Canine Rehab Practitioner and received my education at UT. I'm sure that you can imagine; with the years of experience and knowledge that we possess, finding a veterinary facility that meets our requirements can be VERY challenging!! Things I am looking for in facility are as follows: modern website (showcasing the team is a MUST), online store, social media sites w/consistent posts, CSR's who pickup the phone (not....press 1 for this, press 2 for this, etc.), electronic medical records (NO paper charts), clean & spacious lobby/exam rooms/restroom/outdoor space/reception desk, modern technology (digital x-rays, in house labs, dental x-ray, ultrasound, etc.), onsite routine & specialty surgery, email communication, weekend hours, and a high number of good reviews. That was just the list of what I look for in a veterinary facility, we haven't even started on the staff requirements!! When evaluating support staff and finding the right doctor, there are a few things to consider. Is there a diverse group (age, gender, education, experience, etc) making up the team? When you have veterinarians across the "age spectrum" you can be assured that the medical tricks of the old days are meeting with modernized medicine of today. Staff longevity is also important! Trust me, an employee that is in the business to offer exceptional patient/client care will not stay on at a facility that doesn't share in their principles. Lastly, having multiple veterinarians who take the time to provide good bedside manner, offer education on new treatments/medications, and believes in the importance of follow-up care....A++! I know, I'm a high maintenance person, but I own my animals the best possible care and will always take the time to find the most appropriate care for them. Central Veterinary Hospital has met all my needs for staff & facility! I am always greeted by a smile, the hospital is always clean, the support staff are knowledgeable, and the doctors go above & beyond every visit!! Thank you for taking on a crazy veterinary professional such as myself, I know that we can be a difficult group of clients. Shout out to: Dr. Megan Broadrick for taking good care of the new patient Neshoba I brought to you! Tracey was very impressed by your hands on exam and follow up phone call to go over bloodwork. Jess the assistant for your awesome venipuncture skills on a jumpy Aussie. Autumn at reception.....you were AMAZING at answering all my questions, getting a refill on my pups medication, quoting costs for my upcoming visit, and going over all 4 of my dogs reminders!! GREAT JOB

They seemed inconvenienced to look up and check us in. Terrible service. My pet went back and when they brought her to me in the waiting room, the vet tech had a lackadaisical attitude about the visit. He could have cared less about my pet and was preoccupied with looking at the parking lot for some reason. It was weird. This place used to be the best. Sadly, it's not anymore. I'm going to a different vet because of the way we were disrespected.
