Hired brother-in-law's company as my contractor. I was under the impression that he was a licensed…read moreand insured professional. His contract indicated halfway through the project the 2nd of 3 $24,533 payments would be due. The project started on 1/4 and he requested the 2nd payment 1/15. He was terminated on 3/13 after not making any forward progress since 1/28 except to fix 2 flood issues and a several collapsed fence panels from poor workmanship. He lied about when the 2nd how many workers he would have (2 including himself for an 85k project), purposely left our yard in hazardous conditions before the first snow storm out of spite because he thought I maliciously left dog poop in the yard because I was upset about one of the many mistakes he made, 4 cars needed to be parked on our narrow street during during winter storms because he did our driveway first and was using it as a dumpster/brick pallet/random other materials and tools storage area and a cop warned us we could be ticketed so I spent 16 hours of my own time cleaning up after him, my cellar flooded 2x after it was supposed to have been waterproofed because his assistant sealed it up wrong (left a 2x4 in the poured concrete) and he didn't check his work, he ripped siding off my house to start on another portion of the project while so many others were not yet completed, tore up my neighbors lawn, and insulted my intelligence by saying I didn't have enough knowledge or experience in construction so I shouldn't be entitled to have concerns about any work that was done incorrectly - I could go on. Wednesday March 3rd, he was here to fix the 10k fence that he put up 2 weeks prior fell down in multiple sections. He told us he could not come on Tuesday because it was too cold and on Wednesday he didn't show up until 3 PM under the guise he needed to fix his own fence. His girlfriend informed us that he was actually working another job that morning when we had told him that our neighbors have dogs too so it was super urgent the hole at least be boarded up. He flipped out and left when we asked for receipts for our payments with accurate dates on them and hadn't been back to work until we terminated him on 3/13. He showed up on 3/12 to pick up a tool with a helper, not even 24 hours after telling my husband that the reason he has not been here was due to not having help and that he has been working on a kitchen alone for the last couple of weeks. He kept making excuses for himself (i.e. his truck broke down, the weather, his worker got sick, etc.) and not showing up when he said he would even though my property was left in unlivable / unsafe conditions since 1/28. He did not come back because he was working on a kitchen renovation despite leaving the property in hazardous / unlivable conditions for 6+ weeks. He got 60k in cash for approximately 20 days of work. I just found out that he decided to get licensed AFTER our failed project under a different name ADC Home Renovations and is using the address of a home that was sold in 2020 as his business address.

I can't complain about the quality of the workmanship of his staff. Although I will say that the…read moreworkers are disrespectful of the surrounding neighbors and play loud music/mostly hard rock while doing the job. It's obnoxious. Kevin knows his stuff and is very knowledgeable about the Trex decking but I feel he rushes you through all the details and is more concerned about making a sale then he is the customer. While doing so, he is very charming. He also makes commitments to provide more proposals for additional work outside of the decking profession and then falls short because he says his time is very limited. Or possibly it's not enough money involved to interest him. Once he's made the sale and collected his money, he has no regard for any of his customers concerns and actually becomes very arrogant and defensive. I would give 4 stars for quality of work but 3 stars for his company overall.

We shopped around quite a bit and got several quotes. Based on Blue Star's competitive pricing and…read morethe stellar reviews, we chose to go with them and we're so glad we did. Kevin was stellar from start to finish and our new deck looks great. Service--Kevin was always available and quick to communicate via text or email. He made us feel like we were his only customer and I imagine he provides this level of service to every client. Furthermore, the crew that came for the demolition/deck build was gracious and communicative. They cared for our yard and made sure everything looked spic and span when they left. Quality--The deck looks great and the Trex is a great improvement upon our rotting wood deck. Kevin showed us many options and finishes. We were thankful that he never pushed more expensive items on us. The sales process was never pushy. Timing--We wanted the deck done quickly and the whole process was done within two weeks including the initial consultation, picking materials, visiting the showroom, and construction. The crew was here on time every day and was efficient. As I said, we did a lot of research and chose this company and I'm glad we did. Save yourself some time and use them.
