Terrible business. All I needed was a primer bubble and a screw for a weed trimmer and I was told parts would be only a couple books. Then they said I needed a whole carburetor. Afterward ordering it, I didn't need the whole carburetor after finding some apart parts. They don't even list a return policy on their receipts or invoices. Nor was there a sign hanging in their store saying ordered items are non returnable. I called them and explained why I was frustrated I was stuck with this. After saying they should hang a sign stating this all I got for a response was "I hear ya" I honestly think I was swindled. First and last time going here. Don't even go to Scranton grinder. I'm sure there are more reasonable people in Scranton to get parts and get things fixed. read more

Over the last 30 years years scranton grinder was a very good place to do business for repairing lawn mowers. Ive been very satisfied with their service up until new management took over. Ive only taken 2 items to be repaired since they are under new management. I was very unhappy with their "repairs. " the last item I took was a lawn tractor that wouldn't move forward or backward. After taking it up there for repairs they called me and told me it was ready. They said it was the drive belt that was broken and they replaced it. After bringing it home I used it twice before the same thing happened. Im not sure what's causing this, but will not take it back to Scranton grinder for repairs. read more

Really incredible crappy service...no follow up calls for anything....if they hit a roadblock in getting the part...they just stopped work on it and left if sitting....more than once...no call to me or anything. The service tech just hung up on me when I got frustrated that he hadn't let me know that he was addressing the repair...total lack of professionalism. Wish I had just fixed it myself. Wow. I would not recommend. It took over four weeks to get mower back. I took a day off to receive the delivered fixed machine. It was delivered broken. They picked it up same day and told me I would get it fixed and delivered at no extra charge. Total lie. The first bill was $381. and the second "surprise" bill was over $56.00. I have taken yet another day off from work and the delivery was almost 4 hours later than projected. I would have been cheaper and way less stressful to just by a new mower. I would refer the plague before sending a friend to their business. read more

Ridiculous, I will never go back again! My lawn mower pull cord needed to be replaced so It was suggested to me that I go to Scranton grinder I drop off the lawn mower and I told him and actually handed him the cord I had ripped out. He never gave me a time frame of how long they would keep it but said he would call when it's ready. I called a week later to find out what's going on, the guy who answered the phone didnt ask me my name or what I dropped off all he said was they're behind you should have it by then end of the week. Sure enough yesterday I get a call telling me its ready to be picked up and it's 97.24!! So I asked the guy what was done, he reads me off a list none of which was why I dropped it off. I ask him what their policies are and why they would just repair other things w/ o contacting the customer first and he kept saying well mam it's all fixed it runs. When I picked it up today I asked two different men the same question they said the only way they contact a customer prior to doing repairs is if the customer requests it!!! Needless to say 97.24 later and I get my lawn mower back! best part about it total amt in parts was 21.74$ and labor was 70$!!!! RIP OFF read more

I would not recommend them to any one. I found out that they are under new management, please go anywhere else, this is no longer the Scranton Grinder that we all new and respected in the past. I had a snow blower fixed in the beginning of December 2018. They replaced the carburetor. In January I tried to use it and it would not start. Scranton Grinder picked up and said that it needed another carburetor. January 18, 2019 tried to start and it would not start. Called Scranton Grinder again and spoke with the manager Bill. Bill said that I most likely am doing something wrong. He came to my home and he could not start it. He took it back to the shop. Monday January 28th I called to see if they fixed it. I was told that they replaced the carburetor again and cleaned the lines. They delivered it that day. Well. today on February 4th, one week later, Scranton Grinder called and said that there was a charge, that he was suppose to collect from me upon delivery because they had to replace "another" part. I asked why no one called me and there was no reply. I am planning on driving to Scranton Grinder and speaking to the manager in person. read more

Same thing happened to me. Dropped it off to get the chord fixed. Came back next Saturday - not fixed yet. Called the following Saturday (two weeks now) was asked if I was given an 'estimate' and that it would be $125 ! For a chord ? It needed some extra bolts and screws. Fortunately they had not started the work and I went and got my mower back. The guy at the desk offered to 'dump' it since according to him it wouldn't start. I took it home anyway. When I got it home, I noticed they had replaced the chord. I gave it a pull - started right up. Very, Very disappointed and shocked - will never go back again. read more

I'm a remodeling contractor and needed a replacement part for my Bostitch roofing nailer. Scranton Grinder had this part in stock years ago, so I stopped in to see if they still had one available. I waited about 10 minutes at the parts counter for two employee's to finish their conversation they were having. Finally I was helped and told that the part was an older part and needed to be ordered. I asked how much it would be and was told $28 for the part and one week to receive it. I placed the order and was told they will call when it arrives on Wednesday. Wednesday came and went, no call. I figured that maybe it was delayed a day or two in shipping. I called on Saturday to see if it was received and was told that it should be in next Wednesday. I said that it was supposed to be in last Wednesday. The guy sarcastically said that the warehouse must not have had the part to ship. I asked if he could call and verify that that it was in stock and would be received Wednesday. I was flat out told no! I asked if they could give me the number for Stanley/Bostitch so that I could check myself. I again was told no, their not open on Saturdays. After ending the phone call I checked the Stanley/Bostitch website and saw that they were open on Saturday's. I ordered the part through them directly at half the price and will be receiving it on Tuesday! Now I'm off to Scranton Grinder to get a refund and complain to the owner. Not sure if it will do any good though since I think it was the owner I was talking to. read more
