Maverick's Donut - An assortment of donuts on Too Good To Go!

I came here after they were closed at 1:45PM but they were around and amenable to me poking around…read morethe shop as it was my first visit. In fact, I had not intended to come in, my wife frequents the home decor store next door, Rustic ll Refined, and I am more interested in donuts. But RllR is a cool store. The storefront opened its doors here in April 2023. I noted that on the Too Good To Go app, where local restaurants and grocers and donut shops put their end of day or expiring food items out for a steep discount, the Maverick's Donuts is a frequent seller of yesterdays frozen gourmet donuts. This app is to help minimize food waste by selling it at a discount. What you get: it's six donuts for $5.99 that normally would cost $18. The owner Geoff, introduced himself and said he would sell me six donuts right then for that price since he was selling them for tomorrow anyway and they were already closed. Sure! Especially since one of them was a small apple fritter and one was a bacon maple donut. One was a chocolate walnut glaze, a strawberry glaze, a sprinkle and what I think is going to be a rift on an oreo donut with white icing and chocolate shavings. Turns out Geoff is from Ottowa. He and his wife founded the original and franchised it and now there are 24 stores in Ottowa and they moved to Greenville to open this store. The other stores are franchises of the concept. The donuts are cake style, gourmet but they also serve bacon and egg breakfast sandwiches, coffee, tea, espresso, lattes, cappuccinos, etc. There are gluten free and vegan options available too. Geoff was very hospitable and super nice, and I would return here just because his attitude brightens your day. So, it's not just all about the donuts!

We were delighted to read about an excellent donut shop at Five Forks so strictly for research…read morepurposes we drove over... And sampled. Oh my did we sample! Their bacon and egg Breakfast sandwich was outstanding, like a thin bagel that loaded with egg and bacon. Flavorful and delicious. Then we moved onto the donuts and threw ourselves at the Maple bacon doughnut because we mustn't be overly greedy at our age. It was to die for! A lovely tender cake doughnut with a nice maple glaze and plenty of bacon bits on the top. Absolutely the best! This donut store is on Batesville across from the Five Forks Baptist Church so I encourage everybody to get over here and eat these donuts before I make a beast of myself.

I brought plain cronuts (croissant-doughnuts) from a local spot to work to inflict a new obsession…read moreon others, one coworker declared "this is really good, but Parlor is way better without a doubt." This had to be checked out. Its a cute spot, spots to settle in outside and inside. Definitely, welcomes you to stay. I start with... wth, SAVORY doughnuts?!?!? The fig and pig a huge win. The margarita a little lacking in overall flavor, and the Hawaiian BBQ chicken was possibly sweeter than the dessert options. I have a suspicion the pepperoni is amazing... it will be eventually tried. None of the sweet options tried were less than amazing, visually works of art too. All of the doughnut bases are a croissant, puffy, light and airy. Perfectly flaky, Only the sweet options get the glaze common to doughnuts. They have a unique texture I've not seen at any place else. So although I agree with the coworker that they have incredible options, I don't they should be compared with the excellent simplicity of a good plain cronut.

WOW. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!…read more I travelled from Charlotte to Greenville for the closest location. Tiktok does a great job of highlighting gems it wasn't till I saw a creator post about this place that my plan was set in motion. The doughnuts here are so unique. I haven't never had anything like them, from the flaky and tasty and croissant like dough that they use to the creative flavors! Where else can you find savory doughnuts from? I probably gained 20 lbs from eating this but all of them are so good. I have to give special shoutouts to the glazed, strawberry shortcake, cinnamon roll, chicken bacon ranch, and pepperoni pizza!

After our visit to the downtown kiosk and the discovery of how tasty these donuts are, we decided…read moreto hit up the main store on E. North St. to see where these are made and to bring some goodies to a friends home as a gift. It's a small shop but comfortable and the kitchen is open in back of the main counter. Several cute tables are sprinkled around, it's much more cute than a man cave. Do we call that a woman cave? Or a tea room? I dunno, it's just cute, so hope you get that, but the fun thing is there is a half pallet of bagged cane sugar staged for production right next to the cute area. And a cool idea is a shelf near the door of best seller books or local authors that you can read whilst there or, if you wish, purchase to take home. This is cool because it's not an indiscriminate large selection, it's a rather curated collection, which requires forethought. There's some Scout's donuts mech available. The big shocker though is $60 for a dozen donuts. They really are good, but that's steep. The counter staff were helpful and friendly. For some reason, $4-$5 a donut doesn't hit the same as $60 a dozen. But there were three folks with multiple donut orders ahead of us and a couple of tables with folks there at 8:00 AM. So, they are that good.

They also have a savory breakfast sando made with a cronut on weekends, my husband loved this. He had a boston cream one one day which I sampled, also terrific. I am all about the fruity cronuts. If they have maple next time I might try that since for me that is the original great cronut flavor but it would be no catastrophe to have any of the others. I don't think you can go wrong here.
