this is going to be long, but i want to be sure to be fair, honest, and thorough with this post.....
being a business owner myself, i have never left a bad review for a business. i understand how personal those reviews feel after pouring your heart and soul into your work. with that said, after a year of trying to resolve this issue, i feel it's time to share my experience.
last august, i bought my home. part of the sales contract included some landscaping work to correct some grading issue. since the work couldn't be done before the sale of the house was finalized, i was issued a check to pay for the work. the check was made out directly to the landscaper, so there was ZERO benefit of me holding onto the check as there was nothing i could do with it myself.
the work was done shortly after i moved in. the crew was fantastic. a great group of guys who i actually enjoyed listening to all day. i couldn't hear their conversations, but their laughter told me they enjoyed working together. they were here for several days. i have zero complaints about the crew.
one day, while they were working, my doorbell rang. it was one of the crew. he asked me to come outside because they had accidentally cut through an irrigation line that ran through my flower bed. he apologized and promised they'd get it fixed for me. i was pleasantly surprised by his honesty.... after all, they could have just buried it for me to find out at a later date. but instead, they left the two ends of the line exposed so that it could easily be located and fixed later.
the crew finished the job and i waited to be contacted about the irrigation line. no contact was made. i was busy getting my new home and studio set up, so i didn't worry too much about it because we were heading into fall and i wouldn't need to use any irrigation until spring.
then the bill came in the mail. no problem, i thought. i'll just call and remind them that the line still needed to be repaired and that i would be happy to pay my invoice once that was taken care of. after all, there was no personal benefit of me holding onto the check, but i wanted to make sure that the issue was addressed before paying in full. i called. spoke to the receptionist who told me she would talk to the owner. and i waited. i get that owning a business is a lot of work, and sometimes things fall through the cracks, so i was patient. very patient. probably too patient.
i'm unsure, at this point, how many times i've called, but it has been AT LEAST 4 times. (and that's being very conservative) every time i get a 'past due' invoice reminder in the mail, i call the receptionist and explain to her that i still have an outstanding issue that needs to be taken care of. each time she says she'll speak to the owner. each time i wait, with zero response. it has now been a year. i still have irrigation hose sticking out of my garden.
yesterday i came home to another invoice in my mailbox. but this time, it showed that they had circumvented me and had gone to the title company and had them reissue the check. the check that i was holding in order to ensure my line was fixed. so, they got their money, and now i'm left with an unfixed irrigation line, AND an invoice for finance charges!
i'm sorry, but i cannot bite my tongue any longer. Scotty Landscape Supply, this is horrible business practice, and it is not ok. i was happy to support another local business, but this is officially too much. read more
