We Had the pleasure of contracting Makana Hapakuka of RIP ( Relax in Paradise) Air Conditioning for…read morethe installation of a 3 ton split air conditioning system for our existing two bedroom Vacation rental on Maui. We received several bids for the job that ranged from $18000 to $34000 as we had several optional accessories included in the bid. Not only was Makana the lowest bid but he was the only contractor willing to design a system incorporating all our concerns. Our concerns were as follows: 1) Timeliness of installation 2) Aesthetic impact to the unit 3) Noise generated by unit 4) Compliance with HOA requirements 5) Cost of both the installation as well as the operation of the unit Concerning timeliness, downtime is costly in the rental business. Makana promptly answered our call for a video consultation and subsequently submitted a bid for our consideration. He requested 5 days for the installation so we blocked out one week. He arrived 30 minutes early each day to prepare for the day and promptly began working at 9:00 in full compliance to HOA guidelines. He completed the job in three days including sheet rock repair. In fact we were able to rent the unit to a new tenant on day five. Concerning Aesthetic impact, Makana was the only contractor that understood our concerns. Our building has concrete exterior walls, ceilings and floors which make running air conditioning lines a challenge as most contractors run the lines in plastic chases attached to the the walls in the unit. The only visible chase is on the riser extending from the compressor on the exterior wall in the corner of our Lanai. Once inside he attached the lines tightly to the ceiling and built a chase of framing and Sheetrock across the master bedroom to the framed suspended ceiling of the bathrooms and closet areas. He then came through the closets near the ceiling to attach the lines to the evaporators in each bedroom including inline pumps to remove condensation through return lines running to the sink drain in the main bathroom. You cannot see the lines even when the closet doors are open. He did the same for the main room evaporator running the lines directly through the wall. You honestly see nothing but the actual evaporator units in each room. Concerning noise., the compressor unit is very quiet and has the ability to run in an even quieter evening mode. The interior units and the inline condensation return pumps are equally quiet as well. Concerning HOA compliance, he built a completely closed system and I never received any noise complaints. Concerning cost, as I stated before, his bid was the best value for this custom Installation but more than that he provided us with several options to reduce our operating costs including interior units that have motion sensors to shut down the individual room unit when there is no movement in a room for 20 minutes. He also installed door sensors on the Lanai doors so that the entire compressor will shutdown if either door is left open for more than 5 minutes... ( so we are not cooling the outside). We also had him install WiFi controllers on each unit so we could control the unit from our phone application anywhere in the world in the event a tenant departs and forgot to shut down the air conditioners. I could not be more pleased with this contractor. He and his crew were punctual, professional, conscientious, kind and clean. In fact they used the last hour each work day to completely clean the job site and even hired a professional cleaner to deep clean after the job was completed. They far exceeded m expectations on every issue... I highly recommend you give them a call should you need this kind of work.

I received a quote but it seemed really high so I called several other places to shop around. Good thing I did bc the entire experience was excellent. I called Terry in the AM, he came by a hour or so later, gave me a great quote (~2000 less) and was able to install it the next day. The whole process was so easy and now I get to sit in my cool living room and write this review. All I have to say is this company is so professional, made sure my condo was cleaned up before they left and I was happy with their service. Their name guarantee AC is definitely what they provided. It's nice to enjoy that cool comfort of air conditioning. It took a few months to get the equipment delivered to Maui(Expected supply chain issues.) The entire process was painless; from estimate to installation. Our dual, split system was installed in just 3 days, start to finish. They protected my home with drop cloths/shoe coverings,etc and installed the 5 interior units without damaging any flooring or walls. An amazing accomplishment. They outsourced the electrical work to Ikaika Lau Hee, who was very accommodating and efficient. He was in and out in only a few hours. I want to mention the great job from the workers, Chris, Dean and Devon. Overall, everyone was hardworking, friendly and educational. More importantly was the company's honesty. I was to get a $400 Hawaiian Energy rebate for the system. Dawn found that the rebate had been increased to $650 and passed it on to us, including it in the final bill. Thanks Dawn!! For our newest home, we wanted a central a/c system over split units as central units not only look better on the inside and our cheaper to maintain, but also balances your entire home's comfort nicely, not just in certain rooms. After all was said and done, we have a beautifully quiet and energy efficient 5-ton Bosch system and WiFi thermostat. They also laid down plywood in the ceiling/attic to form a small storage area along with "paved" access to the air handler. We also had them install a range hood vent that exits out of the roof as we can't stand those worthless microwave/vent combos. And since we got rid of that useless appliance, we had them install a built-in microwave oven. OVERALL: More than just a/c installation & service. Professional, top notch workmanship, no hiccups. Highly recommended.

The first one I called was Maui Repair Service and Tim was extremely helpful, looking up the correct part, quoting a competitive price for labour and taking a cc payment for the parts. He kept in touch with me regarding their arrival and a date to install, calling me a couple of times and fitting in with my schedule which I really appreciated. His customer service was excellent. Background: There was an existing 35-year-old 'SolaHart' brand solar hot water heater on my Oahu…read morehome roof and it worked perfectly although it was older. Then I noticed it was slowly leaking. My trusted plumber had a look and it was the solar unit leaking and not the plumbing. It needed to be replaced. A split solar hot water heater would be $12k to 14k. Sun King: So a google search told me that Maui based 'Sun King' was the 'SolaHart' company in Hawaii. I gave them a call. They even had the records on the old unit. A new replacement SolaHart unit would be about $9k installed. So I received a quote and all the information about payment, installation scheduling, coordination with my roofing company as the roof needed replacement first. Like any solar system there is a time delay in installation due to ordering and scheduling. It is not like replacing a standard home hot water heater. But it's leaking now: Well these guys deal with this all the time. So they sent over Paul to assess the situation first hand and install a temporary electric hot water heater and disconnect the leaking unit. That didn't work out, but everything else was planned out and installation scheduled for about a month later after the roof was completed. The catch was that there would be no hot water for about a week while the roof work was ongoing. The old unit would have to be removed while the roof was replaced...so no hot water. Anyway eventually Paul and his experienced crew of plumbers, electricians and installers found a way to hook up and wire the temporary heater. It saved us from a week of cold showers. Yes!!! Satisfaction: 5 Stars. While home repairs, remodeling, renovation, on older homes don't always go smoothly. Everything worked out in the end. Bumps in the road may happen but it is their ability to deal with imperfect situations that are the key. Personally, I favor the simple SolaHart type of passive system (vs. the split system) because of the price and reliability. Remember the first one lasted 35 years. Google SolaHart for information.
