Ridiculous company to try and get out to service a three-year-old unit they installed. Had a…read moretriple-head mini split installed, 2 of the 3 indoor head units have a leak in the coils. Called and was told it would be about a week before they could even come out to diagnose the problem. I called another company who diagnosed the problem the next day. I told Certified Air the issue and it would be 30 days before one of the coils would arrive and 2-3 months to build the other coil. I talked with the warranty manager who sent me the warranty registration info and told me any licensed HVAC company can do warranty repair on our unit. I talked with Marco (service manager) and inquired if we could get the manufacturer to cover the indoor head units replaced instead of waiting for the coils, Marco said that was doubtful but would confirm the timing of everything and get back to me later in the day. It was two days later before I heard from Marco telling me the living room coil was a week out and they had the bedroom coil in stock. They told me they could come out to confirm the leak and schedule the coil install maybe next week. However they had the coil that was 2-3 months out in stock in their warehouse. During this time the other company called and said the coil with the bigger leak had arrived after 3 days and they were on their way to install it. After hanging up with the other company, I tried non-stop to call Certified Air to tell them the info and NOBODY answered the phone. The Certified Air tech arrived and had a conversation with the other company who just arrived as well in the parking lot and the tech left without contacting me "not knowing what to do" per service manager Marco. After finally talking to Marco, he advised they would not assist me any further since I'm using the other company. I told Marco the other company was only replacing the one coil and I wanted them to replace the coil they had in stock. HE REFUSED! He did tell me the other option would be to have the other company replace the indoor head unit, which was in stock on the island, but would not be covered under warranty if I wanted to go that route. He said it would have to be cleared with the owner of Certified Air to even be allowed to service the system they installed since I had another company do the repairs (under warranty) that they could not get to for weeks. To be clear, we tried in February of this year to try and get Certified Air to even come out to service and clean THEIR install but was told they could not get to us for weeks out due to manpower shortages. I was told from several other companies that Certified Air had laid off many employees which is due to their delayed schedule!

I cannot say enough good things about Miles and the experience we had with Sturdevant Air…read moreConditioning. We had an unexpected AC unit failure at our vacation rental just two days before our next guests were arriving. My husband was out of town, so I was in a bit of a bind trying to get everything taken care of quickly. I know that Sturdevant primarily handles commercial work and larger HVAC projects, so the fact that they took the time to find us a replacement unit and make sure we were taken care of meant so much. But what really stood out to me was Miles. Miles came out with Justin on a Thursday evening, and these two had the entire replacement installed and working in about an hour. Watching Miles work was honestly impressive. He had an incredible amount of energy, worked nonstop, and clearly takes tremendous pride in what he does. His work ethic was exceptional, and his attitude was just as impressive as his technical ability. He was friendly, professional, incredibly efficient, and genuinely seemed to care about getting the job done right. Miles is the epitome of a hard worker. He is exactly the kind of employee any company would be proud to have representing them. Sturdevant should feel incredibly fortunate to have someone like him on their team, because his attitude, and willingness to help speak volumes about the kind of person he is and the kind of company he represents. And while this review is really about Miles, I would be remiss if I didn't also recognize Sturdevant for going out of their way to help us when they really didn't have to. It is genuinely refreshing to experience that level of kindness and willingness to help these days. It feels like that kind of personal service and simply doing the right thing has become harder and harder to find. What could have been a very stressful situation turned into an experience that reminded me that there are still good people and good companies out there who are willing to step up and help when someone is in a bind. Thank you, Miles, for your hard work, your incredible energy, and for taking such pride in what you do. You are truly an asset to Sturdevant, and I hope you know how much your effort was appreciated. If every company had employees with your work ethic and attitude, we'd all be better for it.

Da Kine Air Conditioning…read more Pretty much useless for anything other than replacing air filters. There was some minor collection of water in a tray (the drain pan) located under the coil of my A/C, so I called Da Kine Air Conditioning. They sent Mel, and when he arrived I showed to him the metal plate in the ceiling of my unit that must be opened to access the central A/C. He refused to even open the access plate, saying: "I am not touching this sh&*t". He said that in his previous company, he had worked on an identical system, and they had been sued, so he refused to work on it again. I explained that the A/C was in perfect condition, blowing ice-cold air, and I pleaded with him to at least open the metal plate and take one look. He absolutely refused to even take one look at my A/C/ system, using several expletives to make his position crystal clear. I called Kathy in their office, and told her what happened. She called back later, explaining that my entire A/C system would need to be replaced (how would they know when they did not even take one look at my A/C?) and that only a big company would be able to do it. I asked someone who knows more than I do to look at it, and he said that I only needed to replace the drain pan, a couple of short pipes, and improve the insulation around these short pipes. I ordered a new drain pan and I called a couple other companies, including HVAC Maui. In stark contrast with Mel at Da Kine, Owen was very polite, respectful and competent. He went about replacing the drain pan and the pipes without any fuss, and completed the job without any issues. As expected, it was very straightforward, and any competent A/C specialist could have completed the job satisfactorily. If you need someone to replace the filter on an old window unit, and you are truly desperate to find an A/C contractor, maybe Da Kine can do the job ... or mess it up (after all, Mel's previous company was sued over work that he did). For anything else, look elsewhere. Calling HVAC Maui would be a good bet.

Initially things looked promising when I called to set up an appointment since the owner of the…read morecompany answered the phone and assured me they would be able to assist with installing a split system a/c in my 2 storey home. She was professional and friendly and I felt positive about the company. Unfortunately, the owner's assurance fell flat as Kathy in the office and the tech let her down. We made 2 appointments and neither were honored. To begin with the last minute excuse used was it "is raining" which was odd as it wasn't in Lahaina where I live, and we had other companies come out to bid after this when it actually was raining (they said it was better as they would be able to see where to avoid water build up around the house). Second excuse when Dakine didn't turn up was "they were too busy", so why make an appointment they know they aren't going to honor? There was no attempt to rebook, and no interest in keeping our business. If a company is not interested in a job they should be up front and honest. Also if this is their attitude towards installing, what is their attitude towards repair going to be like?
