Initially the farm's main crop was strawberries, and thus the farm was named Strawberry Hollow Farm for their main crop and for the hollow that it sits in. Harvey's government work as a research wildlife biologist took him out of the country and away from his farm in June, the most important month for strawberries. By 1981, Harvey transitioned from growing strawberries to growing members of the pumpkin family, because the growing schedule for pumpkins matched his work schedule. When he retired in 2001, Harvey realized his dream to farm his land full time. In addition to farming crops, Strawberry Hollow Farm also has a small gift shop where they sell various crafts. My family and I recently visited Strawberry Hollow Farm for the first time. There are so many different varieties of pumpkins and other various gourds on display, and their mums were just breathtaking. My wife and I dressed our son like Linus from "Peanuts". There were several spots on the farm for us to stage a "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" photo shoot. In addition to jack-o-lantern pumpkins and sugar pumpkins, Harvey cultivates giant pumpkins that can weigh up to 300 pounds (the kind that you see at a County Fair). The craft shop was really cool too; lots of Autumn and Halloween decorations. In the winter months, everything is themed around Christmas decorations. We purchased a couple of sugar pumpkins to take with us. We enjoyed our time at Strawberry Hollow Farm and we plan on returning in the future.

There are 6 greenhouses to explore, each filled with tables of organic vibrant healthy flowers and vegetable seedlings and potted plants. The birds are singing, it smells great and the owner is so nice and wonderfully helpful if you have any questions. The prices are so reasonable. If I hadn't looked up local nurseries I never would've known they were there, it's definitely a pleasant surprise to find this adorable farm tucked away where I never would've guessed! My birthday passed recently and the only two things I told my family I wanted to do were get boba tea and go to the nursery. Golden Acres was my choice and I'm so glad it was. I was very impressed by the variety and amount of plants they had, there was tons to choose from! They have numerous greenhouses open at various times with seasonal veggies, perennials, annuals, etc. I love that they are organic and make a point to feature what they do and don't use. I am more of an ornamental gardener who only does a few edibles, but I still try to stay organic and it meant alot to me how transparent they were about their practices. The signs at each greenhouse with pricing and variety were extremely helpful and the way it was setup almost on a trail that you followed to each greenhouse (with various plants also set up outside) made it easy to look at everything without getting too turned around. All the plants looked very happy and healthy and I didn't see any visible pests while browsing. They were close to closing when we stopped by but they never rushed us or acted inconvenienced that we were still there. I ended up purchasing 2 6pk coleus starts - wizard mix and rainbow mix (with plans to return and purchase more plants once I had more time and money), and they were very reasonably priced, transplanted wonderfully and all 12 are thriving. I was extremely impressed by Golden Acres and can't wait to go back. Highly recommend!

I ordered 2 11# turkeys and picked them up a few days later. For Thanksgiving I smoked one and roasted the other. They were both outstanding, some of the juiciest, tenderest turkeys I've ever cooked. The staff was friendly and service was prompt. I hear it gets really busy in the week of Thanksgiving so you should plan ahead.

I was very surprised to see how many vendors there were and how popular the event was. Most of the vendors are in a small barn area, though on this warm day, there are even some outside. The vendors I could see include bakeries, popcorn vendor, some jewelry, and some soaps. There isn't a lot of parking on the grounds, but plenty of people park on the roads.

It was closed for the winter as it was after pumpkin season. I pulled into the driveway to be greeted by this wonderful, vivacious, full of cheer, ever smiling lady, Roxanne who peeped out behind a shed where I learned she was planting seeds in trays to be placed in one of the farm's extensive greenhouses for next year's season (to start no later than Easter). Well, after some cajoling, she gave me a couple of CVS (or Walgreen's) prescription pill bottles of heirloom squash (if memory serves, she gave me a bottle of precious Yellow Pattypan squash (lemon squash) and zucchini. They were both non-climbing variety (or take over your garden type, rather they were bush squash. Perhaps, needless to say , mine grew in my crude greenhouse but when winter arrived in a vengeance and blew away my makeshift shelter, and there was not able minded farmer, Andy Barryhill to rectify the situation well, the otherwise hearty squash never flowered much less bore fruit. The blessing or moral or moral of the story is to rely on the team of Roxanne & Andy Berryhill to do the growing and me and other loyal followers to do the buying at the food stand where you can stop by, buy bushels of fresh produce and enjoy the banter and good cheer. It's the way it should be--we after all are blessed to live in a community that understands that we are all in this together. Farm-to Table is so very important to our future: I have learned over the months/years that I will live longer and happier if I support the local farmers.
