I actually found Jennifer after searching online for photographers in San Francisco and her work immediately stood out. Her style felt fresh and unconventional -- more documentary and journalistic than traditional -- and I especially loved her use of black and white photography, which was a big reason we chose her. The day started at our hotel, where she jumped between our separate rooms to capture my wife and me getting ready. Before she had even gotten to our rooms, she had already scouted the perfect location for our first look. The moment was absolutely incredible, and she handled everything; we didn't have to do a thing but follow her lead. That professional confidence continued at City Hall. She has a masterful familiarity with the building. She took full control of the shoot, guiding us as she told us exactly where to stand, how to pose, and where to move next so we could just relax and enjoy the moment. As a photographer myself, I really appreciated her confidence and professionalism. All we had to do was follow instructions and be present. She knows San Francisco City Hall inside and out -- the lighting, the angles, the timing, and the key locations that truly matter -- every shot felt deliberate and it showed. The technical skill here is top-notch-- the compositions were beautiful, the balance of each frame was spot-on, and her gorgeous color grading. We received around 300 images, and the quality is so consistent that I plan to print every last one of them in large format to ensure we have a permanent physical archive. When we received the final package, we were so touched -- she sent our photos on a beautiful USB drive along with printed images, some sweets, and other thoughtful details. It was the perfect finishing touch to a genuinely wonderful experience. If you're getting married at City Hall -- or anywhere in San Francisco -- Jennifer Michelson / A Girl and a Camera is exceptional. Thank you Jennifer! Laura and Junior.

They were professional, attentive, and so easy to have around on such an important day. What we absolutely loved was Jennifer's eye for the little moments. We can't recommend Jennifer highly enough!

She gave all direction of movement, yet the pictures came out so authentically us. I have no idea how she did it. It was her first time shooting at our venue, and we didn't have a wedding coordinator. So she had to both mark out all the couple-only shots and manage time for our friend and family pics within 90min (the reservation cap for our venue). She did this all while making us happy and comfortable. Book her immediately, you'll be glad you did! We worked with Alina by sharing our preferred photo spots and some inspo photos to communicate a "vibe" we liked. Alina offered some great new ideas, too. On the wedding day, Alina managed to capture the magic of all the details -- candid shots of our friends and family, snapshots of the venue and florals, and more. We had such a blast looking at the album; it was like reliving the day! The true joy, however, was sharing our photos with our family. They shared that the pictures were show-stopping and have repeatedly asked for prints for themselves! (Lots of, "and your photographer was just incredible, truly.") They cannot believe how spectacular our photos turned out, and we have to agree. Our jaws were on the floor looking through the album! Shooting with Alina was comfortable, too. She is such a sweet soul and I only hope I have a chance to work with her again in the future! Thanks, Alina, for capturing our special day -- so glad we can return to these pictures to remember it!

Me and my wife recently hired Joseph to be our wedding photographer recently. We did a small…read morewedding at the SF City Hall with just a couple of our friends - pretty much a wedding ceremony. So, the photos were supposed the main event and most important part of our wedding. Obviously, we went to City Hall to get the grand photos, but we also wanted to do something a bit different. Researching City Hall photographers, we went through a lot of them - and while most take really nice photos, if you go through them together one after the other, it all starts to feel the same. We wanted ours to stand out. That's when we came across Joseph's website. The minute we looked at it, we knew we had found our person - don't take my word for it, just check it out. His photos are beautiful, unique, and very artistic. He has an eye to catch those special moments between couples that immortalize them. Joseph is one of the best out there, and you will be lucky to get him because he's so busy during wedding season. Despite this, he was very communicative since before we hired him, all the way up to our wedding. I highly recommend talking with him over a phone call, he will put you at ease for your special day, and you can discuss what you are looking for. He connects with you which makes the experience all the more pleasant. Soo, the reason we went with him specifically was because we wanted something different and artistic - and while that can be a bit risky, he is the photographer for that. We planned to do the shoot at two locations, first at City Hall, and the second in North Beach area. On the day of, we were a bit stressed and feeling the pressure. The minute Joseph arrived, he was able to lighten up the mood, cracking jokes and created a fun, stress-free environment to relax us. You can tell he has attended a lot of weddings, haha. After that, things went really smoothly - he is quite familiar with City Hall, and knows how to take the good shots. He was able to get us all the stand out shots - the grand staircase, the elevator, the stairs, and the fourth floor. And the photos came out amazing! He did candid shots, elegant shots, grand shots etc. One thing I noticed is, lots of photographers are able to do close ups well, but struggle with wide angles - Joseph was able to do wide angles expertly, which is important for a venue like City Hall. When going to the second location, we had planned to do a shoot at a specific location but it was crowded so we had to improvise, and ended up taking photos in the street. This is where Joseph really shined - he was able to use the streets, graffiti, and the environment to take some extremely beautiful photos. And oh-my-god, those photos came out AMAZING!!! He made us look like movie stars, the photos were cinematic! We are so happy with our photos, we have been looking at them every weekend since getting married. What I will say about the price is you will be paying a decent amount if you get any good photographer, and Joseph will look cheap when you understand what you are getting - he is definitely worth what he charges and more. More importantly, the advice I would give you is this - I know Joseph can and will get you the shots you want, but I highly recommend giving him a free hand and trust his artistic vision and his eye, you will not be disappointed! And feel free to express yourself and make things interesting - he is very open to trying out new ideas. Joseph made our vision come true, and captured our wedding day beautifully - he made it memorable for us, which I feel is what every couple wants. For us, he is going to be the one capturing all our special moments going forward, so I hope you see the trust we place in him as a testament to his skill, vision and character. I cannot recommend him enough, just get him without thinking twice, you will not regret it! We're a bit private so don't want to post a bunch of photos online publicly, but I've attached one that perfectly sums up what he can do.

He's very professional, friendly, quick to respond, and just amazing to work with overall. I had just started wedding planning when I ran into a friend who told me Augie was their photographer and shared his info. We had looked through a number of photographers, but Augie's work stood out to us through all of it--his photos truly captured the feeling of each moment, and we loved everything in his portfolio. When we reached out, he responded so quickly and answered all our questions right away. For our engagement shoot, it was my husband's first time doing a formal photoshoot. Augie came very prepared, offered great tips, and made us feel completely at ease. He was so easy to talk to and work with, and we genuinely had such a fun time with him! He was also flexible with timing and weather to make sure we could get the best lighting. We were blown away by his ability to notice something special in just a few seconds and turn it into a beautifully captured moment. For our wedding day, Augie was even more impressive. I had shared our (very full) itinerary with him ahead of time, and I was surprised to notice that he knew it by heart. When we started running behind, he gently but efficiently helped move things along. Even though it was his first time at our venue, he had an incredible eye for finding perfect spots, turning a simple fence into a magical backdrop. He worked seamlessly around the golfers at our venue, guiding us at the right times and capturing the sweetest in-between moments. He also accommodated all our specific requests, including photos with our sports car and dress details. We absolutely love our wedding photos and all the special moments he preserved. We were also so impressed with how fast he sent us our sneak peek photos--it was such a fun surprise to get highlights so quickly. Overall, I can't stress enough how grateful we are for Augie and everything he captured during our engagement shoot and wedding day. We're so happy with all the memories he helped capture that we will cherish forever, and I truly can't recommend him enough.

It is obvious she has experience working with kids, as our 5 year old took to her right off the bat. She has a natural way of making everyone feel at ease. I liked her approach to getting natural looking shots instead of awkwardly posing; she suggests simple movements to engage the kids. Tumay's vibe brought the best out of all of us (1.5 year old, 5 year old, mom, dad) and we enjoyed moving through Park Presidio with her to catch the light streaming through the trees. Sarah made the whole process super easy and, dare I say, almost relaxing?…read more Before the shoot: Sarah was excellent at setting expectations in advance with great materials to peruse (helping me select where to shoot, what I would wear, and answering a ton of small questions in both the contract and other documentation she sent). I've always been anxious about having my picture taken by professionals but I knew I needed to bite the bullet and get new headshots. I sent pictures of my clothing options in advance and Sarah helped me narrow down to a few different things we could try. During the shoot: we got off to a great start with free and easy street parking at our meeting spot (I know that's not totally in Sarah's control but it's a point in Petaluma's favor as a location!). We wandered around downtown's alleys and parking lots for about an hour. That doesn't sound glamorous but it's true that exterior walls are a lot more interesting as a background than you'd expect in a photo. Neutral but not boring. Throughout the session we talked about my goals for the shoot and my work, and I learned more about Sarah, too, which helped me relax even more. After the shoot: again, setting great expectations that Sarah would take some time to process but would email me in about a week. I was in such an adrenaline rush by the time it was over that I forgot everything she said when we were done, but she kindly responded to my email asking her to repeat everything she told me later that day. Then, she delivered the photos several days earlier than expected (I am a sucker for underpromising and overdelivering).
