No sense of urgency after office delay. Was prescribed a prescription on 12/24/2025 that has been an ordeal w/ lack of communication from the doctor's office and wrong information being sent to the insurance company causing the prescription to be pending/delayed for a few days/week which I was trying to get it before the new year and ASAP because my eyes were hurting. After my appointment, found out that the prescription is not covered by my insurance plan. Called the doctor's office to ask if there is another prescription. Did not get a call back but saw they changed it. The new prescription was still not being filled. Called the pharmacy and was told that it requires prior authorization. Called my insurance plan to know if a prior authorization was received and they didn't have one. Called my doctor's office again to request a prior authorization and for it to be sent as urgent as instructed by the pharmacy and insurance company. Called my doctor's office again a couple of days later at least twice as well as calling the pharmacy and insurance company. My doctor's office did not return any phone calls after one voicemail to call them back which I did several times. In the morning on 12/31/2025, the insurance company has not received a prior authorization. The pharmacy is still waiting for approval from the insurance company. Finally on the last day of the year someone from my doctor's office calls me and says they sent a prior authorization as urgent and that they only received two voicemail messages. I said I called multiple times a day and left messages as well as left messages w/ the front desk. She kept saying I didn't. She said she would send the prior authorization as urgent. I called the insurance plan and they received it as standard and not urgent. The likelihood of it being filled today, the last day of the year is slim to none because it was marked at standard. The pharmacy is closed early today and is closed tomorrow. This is insane! A patient should not have to get this involved w/ prescriptions and not be blamed for not receiving all the voicemail that were left. If two were received, that should be enough. If a request for a phone call and status are requested, call back. I do not recommend this office bc of the faulty staff. I don't know about the doctor bc I only had one appointment. Was not able to get the prescription today bc the person at my doctor's office did not send it as urgent and marked it as standard even though she said it was sent as urgent. I was also informed that they have to request an exception. This could have all been started last week when I first called the office regarding this. For me to pay out of pocket, it will cost over $1000.00. This could have been avoided if someone called me back after all the messages I left and sent the prior authorization last week and/or as urgent today.

I was referred to Dr Epstein in 2023 for a procedure called Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL). As I was tired of my eyes being tired all the time from contacts and glasses, plus the inherent risks of wearing them at my job I pursued the surgery with Dr Epstein and Chicago Cornea. First off, I could not be happier with staff at the offices. They were professional and kind and I rarely had to wait long to be seen. Second off, Dr Epstein was great to work with. He was able to answer every question and I never felt uncomfortable. Now to answer the question about ICL. I could not be happier with the results of the surgery. Within days of the surgery I was able to see "normally", which I had not experienced since I was 8 years old. 14 months later and my eyes are 20/20. I do not experience tired or dry eyes and I do not have problems with bright lights and "haloing" as several of my friends and family experience still from LASIK and PRK. Ultimately I feel the ICL surgery is a life saver for me and my job as I need to be able to see in great detail and in any conditions without fail. If you are not a candidate for LASIK or PRK, do not hesitate to see if you are a candidate for ICL. My only regret is not finding the procedure sooner (it's been around for quite some time).

Between COVID and having an unreasonable stash of daily contacts, I put off my eye exam for longer than I should have. I really need new glasses, though, and had some urgency around spending HSA money that was rolled over during the pandemic. Scheduling was easy peasy - I made my appointment on the website and received a confirmation quickly, which included instructions on completing new patient paperwork online in advance. I received a text reminder of my appointment the day before. I was greeted right away, given a few additional forms to fill out, and then taken in back for initial testing. I waited in the lobby for a few minutes before my exam with Dr. Udesky. It was a brief wait and, honestly, the highlight of my day because I got to see how sweetly Dr. Udesky and his team interacted with the patient before me - a little girl who appeared to be four or five years old. She wanted her "eye pictures" to take home and they printed copies for her before sending her off with a fist bump. My exam was great and Dr. Udesky was friendly and warm. I asked a few questions about my current daily contacts, whether contacts or glasses would be better while staring at computer monitors all day, etc. He also gave me some helpful insight into my eye health relative to a medical condition and understanding long term care. I'd been on the fence about ordering glasses or going with an Internet retailer but, genuinely, Dr. Udesky offers competitive pricing (at least in this scenario where I was also committed to ordering contacts). Maria helped me choose frames and I'm excited for them to come in, particularly after years of being unhappy with my glasses from another retailer that bent and were misshapen almost immediately. She was knowledgeable, took my feedback into consideration, and selected the winning pair. I suppose I should mention that I don't have glasses or contacts in hand so this could change, but given how positive my experience was, I'm currently a happy customer and glad to support a local Northbrook doctor and his team. (For the record, I was also sent off with a fist bump and an elbow bump so that doesn't appear to be exclusively for the kids.) :)

I went to Dr. Katz cause I figured it was time to see an eye doctor and I'm glad I did. I spent a good 2 hours in the exam room with him as he tried to figure out what was wrong with me. Half of the time he spent asking me, "is the red ball above the black ball and if so to what side". Apparently, this is the test which I failed at. I'm so happy, cause now I have glasses and contacts and I can actually read correctly and see things correctly. It's so nice to finally be able to do that after 22 years of not being able to. He's really sweet and his staff is even sweeter. Although, when you do go into the office you'll feel like you immediately time warped to the 70's and no, this is not your eyes playing a trick. Oh on a side note, if you have a really jacked up prescription and he's able to get your contacts, like he was for me, don't even bother asking if color is possible because he'll just stare you down and ask you if you're nuts.
