Our family has begun the daunting process of researching and gathering information on LT Medicaid for our mother. Our estate lawyer as well as friends in similar situations suggested contacting Scott for help. We did, and were able to have a very productive conversation with him. We found him to be extremely professional, knowledgeable, attentive, a good listener and an expert in all things Medicaid. He was skilled at explaining the various types of care settings and breaking down the steps needed to qualify in layman's terms so it was easier for us to understand and digest. We also asked many questions and he was consistently patient, kind and empathic throughout. We appreciate the invaluable information Scott shared with us and feel better prepared to move forward with the process. read more

Let's be real, there are just some things you need help with in life. Whether we like to admit it or not, we just don't know everything about everything. Who knew that having Medicaid is extremely beneficial both physically and financially to someone who's over 65 and in need of some extra support? Well... Scott and his team are truly a blessing. No matter who you are, what you going on, your situation, etc. I highly encourage you to seek counsel with this company. Even if it's just a consultation. My wife and I had a wonderful conversation with Scott yesterday. We found him to be very knowledgeable and quite compassionate. He has a relaxed manner that puts you at ease. He also has a real talent for explaining the complexities of the Med-Quest system in a way that is easy to follow. He quickly understood the particulars of our session and provided us with very sound advice. He suggested things that we had not thought. So glad we were able to connect with Scott. His words gave us some much needed peace of mind. Would definitely recommend him to anyone dealing with Med-Quest and the Medicaid system in general. Karen is also great; she took time from her vacation to answer our initial email message. Scott and Karen are NŌ KA 'Oi !!!! read more

When it comes to education and awareness, I certainly appreciate the efforts by folks who are trying to encourage others. No matter what the topic is, I know how valuable it is for people to make informed decisions, so I am thankful for the presentation held this morning. A panel of speakers wanted to ensure that our community had knowledge of the resources available in caring for our kupuna. Hats off to everyone involved in putting this on. Wannette Gaylord shared an important message about licensed versus unlicensed care homes. We all heard the horror stories and it's true, you get what you pay for. If you care for your kupuna, you will want them in a safe place. Stephanie Asato shared important information about financial planning for long term kupuna care. While it is a sensitive topic, she encouraged us to have that important discussion with loved ones and never assume your family knows your long term health care wishes. If there's limited funds and your decisions are not made known.....your family may not place you into the best care scenario. Scott Gardner talked about the silver tsunami and how we are seeing an overwhelming amount of kupuna, not having enough options for long term care. In other words, supply and demand. This free seminar was so helpful in providing step by step information in regards to kupuna care and long term health care planning. We are all going to be affected by this somehow, whether it's us taking care of our kupuna or strategizing for our own long term health care. Again, BIG mahalo for the info and refreshments today! read more

Having to plan for my father-in-law's Medicaid application was quite the undertaking. I consider myself relatively sharp and able to ride steep learning curves. But nevertheless, the application process is a beast. I was referred to Mr. Gardner through our estate planning attorney - to work through structuring their real estate so that my father-in-law could qualify for Medicaid (in a legally appropriate manner, of course). Mr. Gardner responded the very next day and provided EXTREMELY helpful information. While I ultimately did not have a need for Mr. Gardner's services, he definitely represented a thorough understanding of the Medicaid multiverse and was able to succinctly explain (to the layman) processes and approaches that would render a favorable outcome. Thank you for your time and insight, Mr. Gardner! read more

Words can not express how thankful we are to Scott Gardner, Jeanny Gagabi, Loraine Alambatin and, Justin Nishimoto. We were so lost and confused on where to start before we met them. When you have your love one in the hospital then you need to figure how you are going to pay their bills is just so overwhelming. However, with this great team by your side who work endlessly to guide you through the process so amazing. They are so knowledgeable in what needs to be done that there is no way that my family could have done this on our own. They have so much patience as we would call them with so much wIth so many questions but that dIdn't seem to bother them. They are so kind. We would highly recommend them to anyone who needs help with getting approval for Medicaid. It isn't a easy process at all and it is better to have people who know what they are doing than to do it by yourself. Mahalo again! read more

I contacted Scott Gardner on behalf of a California trust that had a beneficiary in Hawaii who was concerned that receiving an inheritance would negatively affect their Medicaid eligibility. I was referred to Scott by both a local law firm and a local real estate agent. This was an unusual situation - the trust could not influence the beneficiary's decisions so we needed an independent third party to provide advice and guidance. Scott readily took on this responsibility and quoted a flat fee to work with the beneficiary to gather details, recommend a plan, and help implement the plan, all without the direct involvement of the trust. Scott and his associate, Vince Nana, met (virtually) with the beneficiary several times, outlining the available options. The beneficiary was understandably nervous about risks to their coverage, but when they contacted the Hawaii state Medicaid office, the case worker confirmed Scott's information. Both the beneficiary and the trust were very pleased with Scott and Vince's assistance and the final outcome. Everything went smoothly and professionally, and I'm happy to recommend their services. read more

Scott Gardner is a true gem. He helped me and my nieces when my sister became ill and I had to take over her personal affairs. I had so many concerns and fears about her Quest situation. He spent 30 minutes on a call and clearly explained everything! At the end of the call I asked him to please send me the bill, and he refused. He said it was just a chat. It was not just a chat for me, it literally gave me some extremely important information. He is the expert on Medicare, Medicaid and Quest Hawaii. I'm so grateful for his knowledge and him giving me peace of mind. It was my sister's Trust attorney that suggested I speak with Scott before I do anything with my sister's house sale. I'm so grateful I listened to her. Thank you Scott, I can now sleep better at night. God bless you. read more

I would give Scott Gardner & Co (shout out to Naomi) at 20+ review. They have been by my side since the first week I had to deal with my sister. A Maui resident had a health issue that left me POA. It has been over 3 1/2 years of constant support from Scott and his staff (Naomi - a rock star). I am forever grateful for their calm demeanor during my crisis when I sounded like a crazy person (which I was). Navigating through all of Hawaii Quest/Medicaid then Medicare is impossible. I live on the Mainland and had no idea what I had gotten myself into taking over as my sister's POA. They have been my guiding light. I have over 6,000 documents that have had to be kept and reviewed by Naomi. It is an insane process and with a full-time job, I would not have made it through. Fortunately, I got the good news my sister would be okay recently. (There can be delay issues, but it is not because of Scott's office, but due to the Medicaid processing.) I don't know how the Medicaid office has done so well with all that has happened on Maui. I didn't know how stressed I had been, until I heard that my sister is now covered. No one wants to be in this situation, but if and when you are, Scott Gardner's office is the place to go. Thank you Scott and Namoi for all you have done for me and her 2 daughters. You are amazing! well, Scott, Gardner and Company do know the regulations and process. You but abide by certain parameters as instructed by the Medicaid forms, and you apply. In my opinion, they know them very well, and can maneuver around them, and within them to manipulate the customer. they have a good front people. People that are just a little bit too sweet and nice in your face yet all the while knowing somewhere along the line, they're going to stick it to you. All of this in the name of helping. we were advised of some things, but left in the dark about others. Namely, the period of time after you meet qualifications to apply and the length of time for your application to be approved, which we are learning is between three and six months. That gap of time puts the caretaker in epicurean situation because they have to wait for a retroactive payment from the Medicaid approval. And if it's not approved or takes a longer time, then that's a longer time that the caretaker is at risk. So they suggest that we pay the caretaker ourselves it would I would think, behoove a professional, to advise customer that this is , a situation that is going to arise. To us it was a very serious and very surprisingly unexpected situation that occurred yet it was never mentioned to us, or even given any attention at all by Scott Gardner. Who knows about this did they left that part out. I also felt like just because my family and I live in California and we're not for my wife that we were less than citizens or something. That is how I felt anyway and how I felt that was being treated. I'm just being honest and what I said is true . Whoever gets involved with this company I guess is with any other one as well. Be careful. It never is everything it seems to be and you don't find that out until later that about sums it up. My name is george boyd. And I live in the San Francisco Bay area. In addition to that, we were told that they would not cash this check because my mom died before the date to file the application. We felt like that was going to happen about a week before and asked them to hold off before they found the application and can't cash the check. They said they would. but as it turns out, they didn't they proceeded to charge us like 60% of that refunded amount as a fee for doing whatever I don't know but it left a really sour taste in my mouth out that whole thing went down. But is totally what I expected . These are shark waters out here. read more

I was referred to Scott Gardner & Co. by a family estate attorney. All I can say is that I would highly recommend Scott Gardner & Co, they guided me through the whole process for the Medicaid application, coordinating with the long-term care facility and the transition from my Dad's VA benefits with Adult Day Care. For nearly two years, my family and I have been without medical coverage. And every person, website, social worker that I had spoken to or dealt with in the attempts of attaining coverage was a complete failure. Then one day, my husband unfortunately ends up in the ER with an infection on his hand. That very same day, I receive a call from Erika at Scott Gardner and Co LLC. She took our information and said that she was going to be assisting me with health coverage and that I shouldn't worry about anything just yet. So, naturally my reaction at first was negative because of my past interactions for the same reasons. However, this was NOT the same. Erika then called me either that same day or the very next day (Can't remember) and told me that not only my husband was covered but my children and I were covered too and that we need not worry about his hospital bill. I could not believe what I was hearing. I honestly thought that she was joking or that it might've been a mistake. But it wasn't. I literally broke into tears because at that very moment, I felt an immediate weight lifted off of my shoulders. My family and I had not been to the doctors in a little over two years and it felt like that if any of us got sick, we would be ok. I could take my children to doctors for their physicals, etc. So because of Erika and this company, I would still be paying off medical bills or my husband would have fallen very ill and for that, I am beyond grateful!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart Erika..... read more
