I found several entries for a Scott A. Smith, M.D., so to clarify: I am reviewing the Dr. Smith who works at Texas Orthopedics, Sports & Rehabilitation Associates. He treated me for two injuries, a break and a fracture. In a nutshell: I can't praise him enough. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs an orthopedic doctor. Dr. Smith is a happy, friendly, open guy, very easy to talk to and joke with. I always got professional treatment. He was thorough in explaining everything to me--what injuries I had, what treatments were available, what the pros and cons were, and what was happening as my treatment progressed. I don't know much about biology/anatomy, but I understood the information he gave me. He's definitely not surgery-happy, which was one of my family's concerns in getting me treated. While I ended up needing surgery, we tried other options first. I never felt pressured into getting something I didn't need. Most importantly, he fixed me up as good as new. I've had no complications or problems. Don't be surprised when he comes to talk to you before surgery in fishing boots! (Apparently they're very comfortable.)

Turned out I wound up having to have meniscus repair on both knees and then a knee replacement. Arthritis? Oh my Dr. Smith. Really?

This practice does NOT CARE about patients - they only care about money. I felt milked for money…read moreat every turn. 1. Dr. Danney would not provide any prescriptions without an office visit + an xray, then a 2nd visit for an MRI. (Meanwhile, I was in pain the whole time.) 2. The office checked with insurance for pre-approval (which was granted), but only for their services, so I now have unexpected bills of $10K+ because the other participants in the surgery apparently do not accept United healthcare. (And this is NOT gov. provided insurance. It's top of the line private insurance.) 3. Post surgery follow up visits ($340 ea.) are NOT included in his surgical fee, so that's another $340 billed for each visit. 4. After being paid on-time, in-full for everything to date, post-surgery I switched jobs / insurance and the office would not work with me as I was getting my new insurance in place. I asked if I could see Dr. Danney and have them submit the insurance claim a few days after a visit, once the insurance records had been updated (which was taking longer due to Covid). Absolutely not! They would not schedule or do any surgical follow up unless I agreed to self-pay in full up front. After that conversation, the office quit trying to do any follow up or schedule any appointments with me (as I assume they were concerned about being paid.) 5. The office visits are very rushed (so they can see/bill as many patients as possible within a given timeframe) and nothing is pro-offered (e.g. I had to ask for arm sleeve to prevent chaffing because my arm was raw since I had to wear a sling for 6 weeks 24x7 post surgery. They wanted to give me one (and this is a VERY low cost item - like a sock). I had to ask for two so that I could wear one while the other was washed). Dr. Danney did not follow up after surgery to see how I was - but his office was able to call multiple times to have me schedule a follow-up appointment (to book additional revenue). I've never experience a doctor who did surgery on anyone who never called to check on the patient within 24 to 48 hours post op. His staff is not reliable. They do not return messages. I left 3 separate messages about rescheduling my surgery - none of which were returned. I called at 12:30 on a Monday urgently requesting pain medication. His nurse, Jessica, did not answer the phone nor did she respond to my vm or call in any medications. I called back a bit later and asked the receptionist to speak with her - she could not and only sent her an email requesting a refill and that the nurse call me - and this too was completely ignored. I tried to call the on call Dr. at 6:15pm, and was told by the answering service that the practice WILL UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES respond to after hour requests for pain medication. They flat out refused to contact the on call doctor even though I am in pain, out of meds and can't sleep. Finally, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you use the physical therapy services offered by Dr. Danney's practice. I initially chose to work with them because I figured they must deal with rotator cuff rehab a lot since they were part of the same practice. The therapist I was assigned to was NOT well educated and was not able to make a decision or respond to anything without looking at her computer. i asked to switch therapists, but was told no. What's worse, I am supposed to be having rehab 3x a week, and I was only able to get 2 Physical Therapy appointments over a one month period. This has set my recovery back significantly - increasing my pain and dramatically reducing my flexibility. I am now concerned with my ability to achieve a full recovery. have switched rehab providers and there is a 1000% difference in quality of care. I would not recommend any part of this practice to anyone based on my experiences.

My follow up appointment was scheduled for 1/13 but I called the office because 2 weeks before because I was in a lot of pain and the swelling was getting worse. I saw another surgeon and he tried to drain it but wasn't successful and told me to wait to see Dr Borick. Dr Borick said the surgery didn't work because I had bad arthritis in my knee that he knew was already there and that I need a knee replacement! After seeing my primary doctor and explaining the situation and her seeing the condition of my knee she said she wanted me to see someone else. I've been seeing Dr Rodriguez at Texas Orthopedics and the care there is far better! Dr Brick's bed side manner is non existent and he has a condescending way of talking to you. I told him that I am worse off before the surgery and I can't work and didn't even care. He explained the surgery may not work but didn't say I could possibly end up in worse condition. I sent an email to the administrators at OACT explaining my issues with Dr Borick and haven't heard from them. Do yourself a favor and stay away from OACT. Texas Orthopedics is a much better group of doctors.

I had positive experiences both times. The orthopedic surgeon I had at the Cedar Park location both those times has since retired. This time I was truly disappointed. I was referred to a trauma orthopedic surgeon after a motor vehicle accident in which I broke my ankle, amongst other injuries. The plain x-rays taken in ER didn't show much. In particular on the outer aspect of my left ankle the swelling was Unbelievable. Probably a good 4 inches to 6 inches sticking out from the outer aspect of my ankle. It was so bad it was difficult to get my foot out of area of the car after the crash. I was placed in a boot and given a referral to Texas Orthopedics in Round Rock to follow up. I made the appt. to the Round Rock location approximately five days after the accident with the orthopedic trauma specialist. I arrived and was taken in. The PA that saw me spent no time with me. I had no follow up x-ray. I was advised to continue wearing the boot and return in six weeks. I had never had such a bad injury before. I guess I was looking for a little reassurance that my ankle would heal ....eventually.

**Do NOT trust this orthopedic surgeon -- even if your arm depends on it.**…read more After a bad fall, I was referred here by the ER. What followed was a mess of contradictory diagnoses and complete misinformation that could've cost me the full use of my arm. **First visit (day after injury):I was told not to wear a sling, "go live your life." **Second visit (after MRI):Suddenly, it was keep your arm in a sling for 2 weeks, do PT, and it "should heal on its own because you're young and healthy." **Third visit (2.5 weeks later): Now it was an emergency -- I "needed surgery immediately" or I'd "never regain range of motion." The inconsistencies were not just confusing -- they were dangerous. He also assured me I'd be typing 2 weeks post-op and using my arm by week 4. Total fiction. He never reviewed my actual MRI images with me and instead based his diagnosis solely on the radiology report. A second doctor later reviewed the images directly and found the report to be misleading. Had this surgeon taken the time to look at the images himself, surgery may have been recommended much earlier, potentially improving my outcome. Thankfully, I got a second opinion from a highly respected orthopedic surgeon with extensive experience treating professional athletes, including those in the NHL who was shocked at what I was told. He confirmed I had a complete biceps tendon tear, a subscapularis tear, and fracture -- none of which would have healed without surgery and 6 months of structured physical therapy. Post-op with the correct doctor, I wasn't allowed to move my arm for 2 weeks, stayed in a sling for 6 weeks and only began very limited motion by week 7. This is the real protocol for a severe shoulder injury -- not the fantasy timeline I was given. Bottom line: This office gave me three completely different treatment plans in under three weeks, misled me about my condition, and grossly misrepresented recovery. I would not trust this surgeon with anything, let alone a serious injury. Get a second opinion -- your mobility and long-term health depend on it.

Later, I was surprised to receive an email receipt for a $39 platform charge. I immediately called and spoke to a representative, who explained it was a fee for booking online, but that I could opt out of future online bookings. I wasn't informed of this choice, and I wasn't aware I would be charged for making an appointment. She said I should have received an email to fill out a form, and that form mentions the charge for making an online appointment. While explaining to the dr. why I was there, he kept using the hand gesture that we understand to mean hurry up & finish talking. Dismissive & rude. I'd fallen off a low step stool & twisted my knee. Couldn't walk on that leg for 2 weeks. Constant weakness & pain for months. My podiatrist recommended this dr. so I had hoped to get a thoughtful diagnosis & treatment or plan. I was told I have arthritis, "maybe" some torn ligaments, & need a new knee, that I need to lose a lot of weight before I can safely have surgery, & after asking TWICE for a shot to alleviate the pain, I did get one but a week & a half later I called the office for a second shot where the pain actually radiated from (other side of knee), I was told NO, to wait for 4 weeks for the shot to work (WHAT???), & to have a shot every 3 months until I get the knee surgery. I told the office woman that the doctor could've told me this when I was in there...no reply. This dr uncommunicative, disinterested, in a 'hurry.' My knee hurts 9-10 on pain scale still & I will definitely be looking for a dr who not only treats (sort of) medical issues but also sees patients as sentient beings who deserve respect & feel real pain. Maybe 2 stars are too many./Update: I went to another orthopedic surgeon for a second & much more thorough opinion I trust. Turns out I have arthritis AND bursitis in both knees, will have physical therapy for a while, only need to lose less than half of what this dr said to have knee surgery, still needed, still in pain. The bursitis is hereditary & the cause of pain. A good doctor really is important. Oh, & the new doc listened to me first because he learned things needed to know, gave me a thorough exam.
