The accounts do not have the same investment flexibility like BMO which can cover I think $1M insurable limit under probably 10 odd entities - would you ever need that- probably not! But if you're a dreamer of wanting to own a home and have 200k ready in the savings to pull a mortgage with the dream house comes up-then you might want to make sure your guaranteed investment is fully insured. I also opened the account because I was painted a picture of no limitations that Meridian CU would connect me with other credit unions to economically transfer funds across the country and internationally. I do want to share my experience and I hope this helps anyone who may be exercising issues with Meridian CU. Experience 1: Misrepresented products and intent to charge more fees because of the TNL@TB. In 2017 I was quite motivated after talking to Westley of the products of this lady named Florence who could advise me how to make money fast and invest my money. It sounded too good to be true. I had a sit down with my family and she sold me telling me She was the one who discovered Amazon before the price climbed high and Facebook (yet I wondered why she wore an ill-fitted suit with face make up melting off her face). She offered to make me a proposal document of how to invest my money. With that I said sure...if it's not too much trouble because this consult was free so I did not want to burden her with more work. I'm not sure where the lines of communication blurred but she somehow had a package with her name and a whole bunch of other peoples names listed. Some how all the products were Fidelity Mutual Funds....um what? She discovered Amazon and Facebook, so where are the stock purchases or suggestion. I guess I was really disappointed. The sell, the review of commission fees for managing -I was expecting a Turner Investment similar arrangement. But no this was prefab mutual funds that would be drawing a steep participation fee on top of Florence's fees...wow. She followed up with me by phone and I expressed to her the proposal was not what was discussed. She asked what you mean-I said I'm sure you can review your proposal and our discussion. Experience 2: After the limited knowledge, the front people have on their products - they take the approach to offer a " for fee" resolution. The approach to make money now with steep fees, rather than offering solutions that avoid fees like opening accounts (like chequing as a vehicle for moving funds). But when it came to wanting to convert funds and transfer to another credit union abroad -I was told it was not possible. After my last visit they offered three options, pay to have a draft made, cash 50k in literally 100 Bills (LOL) or ...well they never offered a third option. In that last visit I asked many questions and finally asked the right one... open a chequing account that allows me to pay Bills for free. Then post a bill payment to my BMO account -which was free. Lady couldnt you just offer me the free option? Instead of wasting 40min of my time. I hope this location finds better ways to work with customers rather than taking the "for fee" service to navigate fund with them. Experience 3: Foreign currency exchange. I do want to mention their foreign currency is competitive to other banks. If you want to have funds converted in cash in another currency you can order it. I say order it because they may not have on hand. But if you describe the denominations you want, this location can do it. Handy if you're going to travel.

The staff here is friendly and attentive and although there are sometimes line-ups, they do try to get you in and out as quickly as possible. Whenever we have issues, they are more than happy to help, and if there are any problems on their end, we get a phone call right away and it gets cleared up. I would recommend this bank for those who need to do their business banking!
