They suggested that we sit and have a drink which is £10-12 for 1 cocktail which is tiny! The security was also sooo rude they were looking down at us like we were trash! Market Row is very small & it consists primarily of food stalls, and it was very unappealing. Brixton Village is a little larger (although not nearly as large as the description had sounded), and it has lots of small restaurants plus a few tiny shops. I'm ont often there, and it confused the heck out of me the one time I tried to choose. I'm pleased to say that the fish I bought here (the bream) was as fresh and as good as I could have wished. I would advise looking carefully at what you are getting, though. Remember the old adage - if you are buying fish, look and try to imagine it swimming. If it's that dead you can't - don't buy.

The cut is just so beautiful. The prices are expensive though. This is like a holiday meat place. Go here for your Christmas turkey or your Easter sirloin steak. They don't really discount, so maybe you can buy one slab of meat a week from here for Sunday dinner. If you do want to sample some of their meat but you're on a budget, usually during warm weather periods they smoke/roast a pig on the road outside of their shop and make pork sandwiches on the weekend. The pig smells delightful as you're walking up the street. When you see it on the skewer rotating around it looks kind of sad because usually the head is still on it, but it still smells so good. The sandwiches are amazing and they're only £3. So sorry for the little oinker that's on the barby, but so happy for my tummy.

But why would American Express list a shop, unless of course they are signed up with American Express to accept Amex card payments? And several years running? The shop itself is tiny and you're constantly rubbing elbows while waiting and browsing, which is not a very good experience. The meats are OK, but quite a bit pricier than even Waitrose.

And is it cheap! You'll find lots of interesting foodstuffs for around half the price you'll find them at the nearest high street grocery store. Deepak is also a spice haven: their spice section extends along two lengthy aisles. They're also really good for cheap fresh fruit and vegetables, though if there is one thing they fall a little short on it's their selection of fresh meat. Deepak is a must do if you're looking to fill your cupboards with food!
