Brown Stew Chicken 5/5

Food was very, very good and service was awesome. Stopped in for a late lunch on a weekday afternoon. Music was super loud to set the island vibe, but interestingly not too loud to talk over. Brown stew chicken 5/5 (very flavorful) Rice and peas 4.5/5 Plantain 4/5 (portion size was kind of small) Cabbage 5/5 (sooooo flavorful) Macaroni and cheese 3.5/5(texture was a little loose, but the flavor was good) Jerk wings 3/5 (OK flavor but not tender at all). I will be back maybe just not for the wings.

Jerk Chicken Meal with rice and cabbage.

This Jerk chicken will take you back to Jamaica in a heart beat. All the food even the sides were cooked to perfection. It is a small place but a must go to in Myrtle beach if you appreciate good food.

Jerk Chicken Meal

Absolutely phenomenal food. The jerk chicken is spicy, but I can't stop eating it so it's the right amount of spice. All of the food here is lovely. I feel like someone's grandma made it for me. The cabbage is wonderful. The ginger drinks are too. Definitely check this place out if you're in Myrtle.

Bachata Caribbean Bar & Grill - Fried pork belly and fried plantains

Bachata Caribbean Bar & Grill

Found a little Venezuelan gem hiding in an unexpected corner of downtown Myrtle Beach…read more Bachata Restaurant is on Seaboard Street, tucked into the more industrial side of town between 10th Avenue and 501, and between Highway 17 Bypass and Robert Grissom Parkway. It's outside the usual Myrtle Beach restaurant and tourist zones, which is honestly part of what makes finding it fun. The restaurant recently changed ownership and is now serving Venezuelan and other Latin food during the day, with a nightclub in the back at night. The dining room is small and intimate -- maybe five or six tables -- so I can imagine it filling up quickly. There were a few people eating when I stopped in, but I had plenty of room. I went specifically hunting for fried pork belly, and they had exactly what I wanted: chicharrón. And they absolutely did NOT skimp on it. I got a big box of thick, crispy fried pork belly along with tostones -- green plantains smashed flat and fried until crisp. For the price, I was honestly surprised by how much food I got. They also gave me fresh pico de gallo that tasted like it had been made right there in the kitchen, along with house-made guasacaca, the traditional Venezuelan green sauce. Between the crispy pork belly, tostones, fresh pico and that guasacaca, this was seriously good eating. There was also a hot case in the dining room filled with Venezuelan grab-and-go snacks and pastries, including stuffed fried pastries with meat and cheese. Those definitely caught my attention for the next visit. There was a small language barrier when I ordered, but Google Translate took care of that in about 30 seconds. Everyone was pleasant, we figured out exactly what I wanted, and I left very happy. While I waited, I looked over the menu, and there are a LOT of things I'm going to have to go back and try -- especially the empanadas and some of the traditional Venezuelan dishes. If you like discovering small, locally owned restaurants that aren't sitting on Restaurant Row or surrounded by tourist attractions, Bachata is absolutely worth checking out. It has that great little hidden-neighborhood-restaurant feeling, despite being right in the middle of Myrtle Beach. Sometimes the best food is hiding in the places you'd normally drive right past. Bachata Restaurant 811 Seaboard Street Myrtle Beach, SC And if you're specifically hunting for a big box of crispy chicharrón, tostones and homemade Venezuelan sauces in Myrtle Beach -- I found it.

We ordered two plates, and tried both the fried livers and the fried gizzards, and both were very solid with good seasoning and good crisp. We also thought that the mashed potatoes, candied yams, and the rice & gravy were all very abundant and seasoned very well. The peach cobbler was also a hit with the right amount of consistency and sweentess. The beignets were a pleasant surprise because we had never tried them with honey and after trying it that way, we could be down with it. On the other hand, the shrimp with grits had extremely plain grits and extremely salty shrimp, and mixing them altogether definitely made the dish tasted more balanced but it didn't change the fact that the shrimp was still salty and the grits didn't catch too much of the salt on the shrimp. The fried okra had soggy outer shell. The gumbo was a bit watery and didn't have enough roux, and the rice included was soggy which seemed like it was out for a while and heated up. Aside from food, it was worth noting that we were initially placed on the list and were told that we'd receive a text upon a table ready, and unfortunately we never received one, despite seeing people that came in later getting tables. After we went back inside 30 minutes later to see what happened, they didn't give us an explanation, but managed to get us the next table. This anecdote made us confused when we first sat down, but we decided to no longer worry about what happened and was in a mood ready to dine.
