Badlands and Bacon…read more In eastern Montana in the town of Miles City(population 8,500), you might see a tumbleweed or two, cowboys on horseback, prairie dogs scurrying into their holes and if you're lucky, you might occasionally see a train hopping hobo board his next ride out. I made my way to the downtown area and to my surprise many of the businesses were open on a Sunday morning. On my way to the Montana Bar, I spotted a vintage rustics and antique store worth wandering into. Who knows what treasures you'll find there? Perhaps a rare copy of "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" by Van Halen on vinyl, or maybe an antique crank whisk for murdering eggs in a bowl. What I didn't expect to see was a full candy shop, ice cream parlor, donuts/pastry counter and a full cafe diner with hot food with locally sourced meat. You can wander around the store and find an entire black bear on display which has been flattened and hung up, as if to make a crazed scarf out of it. While I was planning to have bison at the Montana Bar, I deviated from that plan in favor of brunch, consisting of burgers, biscuits and gravy or whatever else I might fancy. I was racking my brain about why the bacon cheeseburger was a whopping 4 dollars more than the regular cheese burger. "Is this bacon really THAT good!?", I asked myself. I ordered a plate of bacon that was so good, one could only wonder why all the other bacons had it all wrong. Crunchy and yet not, ham-like yet greasy. It was like a bacon enigma, with a masterful balance between how bacon should be cooked. Onto the flavor. If you died and went to a bacon filled afterlife filled with delicious pork products, this is what your expectation would be. It's already won me over on the bacon texture, but how about that taste? I cannot describe this flavor to you, because there aren't any words for it. I guess the words, "awesome, killer, magnificent" might scratch the surface, but you'll certainly have to hop a train to Miles City to get your fix. Can I get another plate of bacon?

I found 2 things I wish my suitcase had room for & ate a grilled cheese. Probably my most affordable meal so far and I'm on day 10/14 girls road trip ,

Dairy Queen is pretty bad ass. Didn't know they sell hamburgers and other delicious treats. I…read morethought they were usually known for desserts and other stuff I was wrong. I stumbled upon this Dairy Queen location that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere Montana. I wanted a late lunch and a gas fill up, so I found this place and a gas station nearby. This was basically the only option I found in Forsyth that was pretty much doable for me. Every other place in this town was a little shady. I only am writing this review thinking that I took photos of my food and thought, is there a yelp business listing for this specific Dairy Queen location? I was surprised. I arrived on a casual Thursday morning in Billings, MT. I drove out of Billings on the I-90 and then I-94 to get here. There must have been 3 or 4 tables occupied with people, but the restaurant itself was small anyway. I ended up choosing their Kansas City Barbecue Burger combination, which included fries and a drink. The price was pretty good at $6,99. I didn't realize that Montana did not charge sales tax, so I got a good deal on it. This Dairy Queen location is in the area / town of Forsyth, Montana. Its about 1 hour outside of Billings, so it's quite a drive out here on I-94 east from Billings. The restaurant itself is characteristically smaller than most and they don't have a drive through service window. No surprise there, especially when you don't anticipate that much people stopping by on any given day. They accept major credit cards, so that's always a good thing especially for me going cashless most of the time. The restaurant itself is clean and quite tidy. Not like this area has public transportation or not, but it doesn't anyway. Best bet is to drive here and have your way with Dairy Queen. I opted for take out since I need it to get to Williston, North Dakota in a hurry and five hours of driving ain't gonna do it itself. Since Montana does not have sales tax, it is great to see the total price not change after adding everything up. The prices here for these meals are fairly competitive and I felt like I got a good deal because they do not charge sales tax. I ultimately got the Kansas City barbecue burger combination, which included french fries and a soft drink I particularly like the barbecue burger because it felt like I was in can you say having their barbecue, even if I am not. It is the next best thing to having Kansas City barbecue. The french fries are pretty good too, it taste like similar to Burger King type of french fries. It is better than McDonald's, that's for sure. For the most part though, it was a quick and cheap and easy fast food option that I would do over again, if I am in the area again for some reason or another. The burger was pretty rich and covered with barbecue sauce. It was delicious and definitely hit the spot when driving to North Dakota. With all the options along many interstates across the USA, Dairy Queen definitely is a good one and an alternative to the fast food nation. While it is fast food, it's a quick option that is a little better than the mainstays of McDonald's and Burger King, among others. 3.0 stars for the overall experience. 4.5 stars for the price, 4.0 stars for the food. 3.5 stars for the service. Expected and friendly. Support local! B
