Work has required all of us to have steel toe shoes if we walk out in our plant, so based on a recommendation from a coworker I stopped at Scioto Shoe Mart one night after work. It's a pretty big store that is family owned and someone helped me right away. I told them my price range and within a few minutes he came back with the shoes. Ringing me up was easy. What an absolutely fantastic shoe store! I was in need of women's work boots. They are so hard to find! They had an amazing selection on hand to choose from. Do not dare go in if you aren't dressed up as you will not get service. Waited 15 minutes at the front of the store to try to get the sales staff to help. Eventually one of the young ladies put down her potato chips and went to look for the shoes I wanted in my size. Unfortunately, they did not have my size but they also did not ask what I was looking for, or offer other options. She just sneered at me and disappeared in the back. Meanwhile, another associated was giving superior help to an older lady nearby and completely ignoring me. I was hoping for a "treat" for myself and ended up in tears and without any special shoes for an upcoming event. Guess I should not have combined shoe shopping with a trip to Lowe's. THE MOST UNORGANIZED PLACE ON THE PLANET IS THIS STORE, WHAT A MESS. And I hate that because when u sell good shoes like Clarks, Merrils,and Doc Maartens they should be neatly and clearly displayed..instead you have to pick thru EVERY box because they arent displayed and you have no idea whats in the boxes below..I got a pair of sneakers, whi h the sneaker side was better but not by much, but how can anyone shop like this? For the third time in 12 months I walked entirely through this store without being acknowledged even with a courtious greeting. I passed employee after employee and even walked past the owner and her son with no acknowledgement. Not even a rudementary, "Can I help ya?" I got to the door and I was totally "unserviced" and had every intention of making a purchase. To end my experience, the only employee to acknowledge me was a lady behind the checkout counter who asked me (as I grabbed the door handle) "Did you find what you needed?" And I replied, "No!" And I  left her with a blank stare on her face. No more. There are too many shoe selling websites with a much better selection at lower prices to buy from. So much for my attempt to "buy local" and support a small mom & pop brick and mortar family owned and operated business. read more

I love this shoe store. I have hard to fit feet (very wide) and have a hard time finding good shoes. I travel about 1 1/2 hour (one way) to go to Scioto Shoes. This is a great store! They are so helpful in many ways. You can return shoes if they don't work for you. They have knowledge on fitting shoes especially for unusual situations. Their assortment is huge and sales are great. Don't forget all the socks and shoe accessories they sell as well. Beautiful purses are one example of things you can find there. read more

Was overcharged two trips in a row, second time by over $40.00. Had to settle on a brand I did not like because my size out of stock and no guarantee they would be in when I needed the shoes. I had to return the pair of shoes I settled on because of a defect, and they did not have another pair in my size again. I was asked to pay an extra $10.00 (after already having spent $300 the day before) to get another pair of shoes in a different finish. (they did not have my size again in the shoe I had and could not guarantee they would be in time for when I would be mandated to wear them) It was not my fault they did not have the Dansko's I wanted, It was not my fault the shoes I settled on had a defect, and it was not my fault they couldn't even replace those in my size! But they sure TOOK MY MONEY! TOO EXPENSIVE, POOR SELECTION, and POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! they only reason I went there in the first place was because my workplace had an event there and offered payroll deduction from 4 pays. I agree with Dean( previous review). I walked in with at least three people standing around doing nothing and they never approached me to help me. I finally found someone who told me it wasn't her area. Needless to say service does not exist at this store. Never again will I go in there. read more
