This is one of my favorite fast food place in the Altstadt (Old Town) of Dusseldorf. It has been here for ages and so is the interior, nothing has changed. It's still the rustic and simple setting, time definitely stood still here. If the weather allows sit outside and watch the people walking by, can be very interesting. Service is quick, efficient and friendly. The place may look uninviting but the food is awesome. As the name suggests it's all about pork. You'll get a watery mouth just by looking at the rotisserie with all the roasted pork. They offer pork on a bun, whole roasted pork knuckles, Schnitzel, sausages, even Cevapcici. Everything is done very well, even their french fries are very good. My favorites are Schnitzel, pork knuckle to share or if you are really hungry and their Cevapcici. Located in the Aldstadt (close to the Rathaus) Schweine Janes is an unpretentious little eatery. There are picnic tables outside (a must if it's nice out) or a small dining are inside. Vegetarians need not apply, I mean, it's not Broccoli Janes...however, if you want to get your Schweine on, this is the place to do it. There's a large man behind the counter, and behind him are huge rotisserie racks stuffed with meat. They specialize in pork hocks but I had the metzenteller (?) which I guess is some sort of mixed plate. I was delivered a heaping plate of pork products - kasser ripchen, tender delicious roasted pork and a grilled pork sausage. And of course, mash and kraut. All this at lunch - just €6.90!!!! I made a Schweine of myself and demolished my lunch because it was delicious! Everything was fresh, hot and well cooked. I'll be dreaming about that spectacular pork for a good while. Fortunately, I need to be back in Germany in a few months and I will definitely arrange to come back! read more

This place might not be very hidden in old town but nevertheless is a true gem. We where urging some authentic german food and i rememembered reading about this place on Yelp. What it lacks in ambiance it certainly makes up for in food, quality, value and service. We ordered the pork knuckle (schweinehaxe) and schnitzel with roasted potatoes. We got our beers from the friendly waitress in 2 minutues and the food less then 10 min later. The schnitzel was tender and had a good crispy layer of breading. The roasted potatoes where supertasty. My wife loved the "haxe" with sourkraut and mash and we had a great experience. The food with 2 beers (Jever pils) came to a total of 31€ without tip wich was a bargain. I also changed the french fries for potatoes and added some herb butter to my schnitzel without any added cost. Overall a great meal and we cant recomend this place enough! read more

Wonderful pork sandwich with or without kraut. The meat was juicy and they added some of the crunchy skin that was cooked just right to each sandwich as standard procedure. Most places I've tried in Germany serve skin that's been charred black on request only...yuck. Adding pork skin that's done right adds a crunchy texture and salty base to a sandwich, and it's a large reason why this is the best pork sandwich I've had since relocating to Germany. The bread is the typical white/French roll but it soaks up juices well. There was a line to get the sandwich, but it was efficient. Assuming you want something to-go, just walk up and tell them what you want. Most order the pork sandwich and you'll be eating after a very short wait. Unfortunately, I wanted to take a Schweine Haxe to-go but they said it wouldn't be ready for another 30 mins. Guess I'll need to come back. read more

It is a wonderful little restaurant. It was recommended to us, so when we were in Dusseldorf we stopped by and were not disappointed. Food was not only absolutely delicious but also well priced . After super expensive Brussels, it felt like we could finally eat a good size meal for a reasonable price. Our waitress was a very nice lady. She spoke some English and helped us with the menu. I had sausage, mashed potatoes and a sauerkraut ( of course). My husband tried schnitzel for the first time. We enjoyed our meal and paid 14 euros only. Not your typical breakfast food, but I wasn't complaining. I'm not your croissant type of breakfast person, I like a big breakfast. After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, no? We ordered the Currywurst on a bun and the Schweine Janes Grilled plate ("various meats with fries and salad"). Some meats were dry and bland, and others were juicy and flavorful. The Currywurst was good but it was doused in ketchup. Would I get those same dishes again? No. Will I come back again and try the huge pork sandwich? YES, because everyone was getting it. To be honest, we were a little intimidated at first because we speak no German and we were unsure of the ordering/seating process. I'm glad we conquered our fear and pushed our way into the crowded doorway, it was a fantastic experience. The restaurant was full with the expection of two chairs at a table with a young couple. We asked to join their table and sat down with them. I'm getting more comfortable asking strangers to join them at tables since living in Europe. The Alt Beer was some of the best in town. The menu is all in German, we didn't ask if they had an English menu, I had doubted it, plus I did a little homework prior to our visit. Their entire menu is availabe on their website, so you can translate it before you go. I went with the on of their "Unsere Spezialitaten" (Our Specialities), the "Schweinbraten mit einer Beilage nach Wahl" (Roast pork with a side dish of your choice) I chose the potatoes for the side. My wife went with the "Schnitzel 'Wiener Art'" that came with "Pommes Frites und Salat" (this one's easy to translate: Wienerschnitzel with fries & salad). Great food, good prices and fun atmosphere. Put it on your list when you're in Dusseldorf. But beware of the food coma that you will enter after your meal. Find a good spot for a nap. read more

The Schweinehaxe at this place is to die for. So much so I've been going around telling everyone I met today to check out this place. The skin is crispy (grilled long enough that the fat seemed to have been burnt off :P) yet the meat under remains moist, falls right off the bone, and melts in your mouth. At €7.30, this is a meal with portion plentiful enough to feed 2. If I have more time in Dusseldorf, I'd probably eat this every other day. It's just that good. read more

Unplanned overnight in Dusseldorf, which turned out to have the CUTEST Old Town, and when I saw the name of this place we HAD to go. Not disappointed! The kids had the brat and broetchen (E 2.70) and hubs and I had a meat combo plate, and both were fantastic. Next time, I would just get a hunk of pork or a brat! I found Schweine Janes highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It's located on Bolkerstrasse, a lively little eating street in the Altstadt. The first thing I noticed after sitting down was all of the different cuts of pork roasting on the rotisserie behind the woman at the bar. That was definitely a good sign and made my mouth watered. The menu was simple but it didn't need to be complicated at a place like this. I ordered Schweinehaxe with Bratkartoffeln. The potatoes were excellent and the pork even better. It was tender & succulent, with crispy roasted skin. I was hungry and managed to just almost finishing my pork leg. The portion size did not disappoint. The price was pretty good as well. Actually we have been living in Düsseldorf for many years and have brought many friends to this restaurants. Till today we are still satisfied. But I need to warn Asian tourists or guests: They charged 10% service fee to us today which we never experienced here or in any other German restaurants before: We actually spent around 44€ and was charged around 48€. We did't notice the service fee and paid the bill via EC card and gave extra tips via coins. But I somehow felt the price wasn't right and asked about the detailed bill again and found there was an extra 10% service fee. We are satisfied with the food but not the way they charge for bill. From the pics of the bill in trip advisor it is very obvious that there is no service fee for normal guests but they particularly charged from us which is not a fair and honest behavior. I don't mind paying tips but not like compulsory, and I paid twice the tips today as a result. I lived in Germany for 8 years now and I know the culture here. I don't think it is the right thing to do to the Asian tourists. I didn't want to bather to argue today as I brought my parents there, but you should decide yourself based on my experience today to have your own judgement if you are an Asian who plans to visit the restaurant. read more

I got the name of this restaurant from top rate chart by yelper. They do not take the reservation so it was first come first serve fashion. There are a lot of people waiting in front of the restaurant so please come early if you want the seat. They had a grill rack at the front so it look like the show for remove pork knuckle from the grill. Taste of food are average in my opinion.
