Cold cases with Der Dutchman pies, packaged meats, snacks, etc. Amish jams and jellies and pastries. One stop shopping for some people, like me. I got a bulk pack of brats, some big premade burgers, and scrapple! Haven't seen that for years. If it's not raining this weekend, I will be grilling. And I will be having scrapple for breakfast at some point. Service was super friendly and fast. The wait was short, midday and midweek. Prices are very reasonable. When I tell you one of my friends took me to Schumer's Meat Market I ain't never go back to the one that's on 5th Avenue which I didn't go there too often because it wasn't clean enough for me. I have heard about Schuman's for a very long time. And I finally made my way out to this meat market . I got a few pounds of chicken wings and bratwurst. And the meat was top tier. The service was really good. The way the service works is , you walk in take a number and wait until the number is called. Whichever employee calls your name, they take your order and you tell them what all you want. The price was really good, for the quality and the amount of meat you get. The meat market was really clean. The employees were gloves and just really sanitary. I can't wait to go back and try more meats!! read more

As a BBQ lover, I finally found my source for top notch beef to put into my smoker. It's getting so hard to find any meat merchants that will process beef plate ribs. I walked in, took a number, and within 5 minutes I was standing at the counter and ordering two large beef plate ribs. There were none in the case, but they went into the cooler and cut a 12 pound and a 13 pound rack of beef ribs. I will be buying all of my beef in this store from now on. The brisket in the case looked beautiful so I will be buying my briskets from Schuman's from now on. I have found my home for great beef. They also have so many other great cuts of meat, so I'll be buying my pork ribs from this store very soon. Fast service, friendly service, great meat products. I have pre ordered Turkeys in past years for Thanksgiving from Schuman's Meats. This year I decided to switch it up. I planned on making bone-in short ribs for Thanksgiving. I knew exactly where to go to get the meat, Schuman's Meats. It is a true butcher shop, that carries quality meats that is staffed by knowledgable and ready to help employees. When you arrive at Schuman's and enter through the front door, immediately look to your right. There will be a red number dispenser. You know what I'm saying, the now serving thing. Remember to take a number. I've never been to Schuman's when there is no one in the butcher shop. You will need to have a now serving number so you will be helped in a timely fashion. You can be sure that Schuman's will be able to fulfill any of your meat or side needs for a meal big or small. I also love that the butchers are always willing to answer any question I have. They know so much more about meat than I do and they do not make me feel inferior for asking. They give great suggestions and make me feel appreciated. As I was looking around the shop while waiting for my number to be called I noticed a couple of staples that I buy often at my usual grocery, but the price was significantly less at Schuman's. Such as the Garlic Expressions, Tony Packo's pickles, and local butter by the log. The prices were so significantly lower that I stocked up. I'm certain I will be heading to Schuman's more often now that I have discovered that price savings!!!! Please consider shopping local for your meats and heading to Schuman's Meats. I've been knowing this place since I was a child. You can get just about every type of meat. If you want something that is not on the "menu" like soup bones or something like that, just call ahead of time and they will prepare them for you. If you go on a Friday or Saturday you can guarantee there will be a crowd. I recently went on a Thursday and it was not crowded at all. You still have to grab a number but there was hardly a wait. On my first visit to this establishment I was very pleased with the quality and the customer service that I received. However, on my second visit last week I was very disappointed and disturbed about the customer service and poor quality of my meat. My order was filled by a young African American male in his 30's. This man was very rude, condescending and passive aggressive during my entire visit. Now, I can understand an employee having a bad day but this young man treated me like taking my order was a burden. He refused to give me the size oxtails that I requested and then he gave me all improperly and odd shaped beef short ribs as well. I had to cut the short ribs properly myself. He simply would not give me what I ordered. I was furious when I opened my two packages at home. That was a long drive and $80 thrown out the window! VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! read more

I've been shopping at this place well over 30 years. It's the best meat I've ever eaten. The employees are the best. My go to person is Bob he knows how I like my filet mignon cut and all the rest of my meat. The lines can be long but the quality is good , and the meat is fresh and they have a variety of cheeses . The meats are relative reasonable for now . First of all , the staff is exceptional and the meat is superb. BUT , after having to wait 30 minutes in line for an already prepared pickup order , the order wasn't ready at all. It wasn't even on the books . ( I had called and ordered 5 days prior)They said they would get the meat ready for me . Another 30 minutes. And to my surprise , the meat was weighed BEFORE they trimmed it . I was stunned to see that probably 2 lbs of trimmings ( $40!) was left in their waste can . We live in Las Vegas and get all of our beef, chicken, pork (and other tasty items) from Schuman's. I challenge any butcher in Las Vegas to beat the consistent quality of Schuman's meats. If anyone questions prices, say, for wings, I don't know where you shop but the wings are huge, tender, and tasty and we would pay the same for much less quality in any grocery here. We have had some of the best roasts, steaks, and ribs since we started shopping at Schuman's and don't even get me started on the chicken breasts! Our friends are jealous of our freezers :) The drill: Fly into town, buy enough to last at least six weeks, freeze it, put it in a large freezer pack we constructed, put the pack in a large suitcase and check the bag at the airport on our way home. Schuman's Meats is a true butcher shop hidden out on the southeast side of C-bus. In theory, I dig the concept of a place cutting meat to order. I mean, I love meat as much as the next guy, but this place is just sort of gross. When you walk in, you're first struck by the smell. What is that stench exactly? All those meats? Gosh, I hope not. I certainly didn't want to buy food after that. After you get used to the smell, you realize that the place is run down and dirty. It's just not the environment where I want to purchase meat. First time in the store a few months ago. It was amazing. My brother and I split a side of beef. Thought it best to load up before inflation really set in. We filled up two 7 cubic foot freezers with a huge assortment of meats. The meats come individually wrapped and labeled, but we had to vacuum seal them ourselves, which was okay. We probably have a years worth of meats each. I highly recommend Schuman's to anyone who will listen. They've got a ton of other products cheeses, baked goods, spices etc to go along with every meat you can imagine. The staff was awesome, the products are beautifully displayed and I really enjoyed the hustle and bustle of a very busy store. Apparently it's not a big secret in Columbus. Stopped in here yesterday with my husband. Haven't been here for years as I used to come here with my parents years ago. The place still looks the same as I remember it as a kid. Yes you have the butcher smell (duh!) when you first walk in the store, but you will have that. We looked around first before we took a number. Prices were reasonable on all the items. We picked up a ham hock, ground beef, steaks, lunch meat and cheeses for around $40. The young guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back. read more
