We stayed one night at the Schooner Inn. The room was probably one of the cleanest rooms in a hotel at the beach. It is an older hotel but well kept. Our oceanfront room was very comfortable and quiet. The bathroom is small but not cramped. The hair dryer seemed new. There was an iron snd ironing board that was clean and worked well. This was an efficiency room with nice cabinets, a toaster, a coffee maker and everything we needed to make our morning coffee. The front desk folks were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and will be back! read more

We really liked this place which as far we used which just the parking lot and òur room. Finding a space was difficult, to say the least. The managment had posted a limit of 1group/vehicle. They a have a charging station. Also of more restricts, do not go there if you dont need a charge There is an acute shortage of carts, why is unknown or people are sequestering their their room overnight. Our room was very clean (2 comfortable queen beds), coffee system. There was a under the counter Berore I end this, they boast rooms have an ocean view, well, kinda.ours had a distant of a sliver of water under an carts are sequested by people overnight.. Take it in with when saw the toilet, all I could think of the movie Uncle Buck with John Candy in the elementary school and trying to use the facilities.Just hilarrious. I would not mild staying here again . read more

The front desk staff is amazing! Seriously they are some of the nicest, most welcoming staff I have encountered in my many hotel stays. The rooms are always super clean when we arrive and the staff is more than willing to assist should we need area information, extra towels, or any sort of assistance. My favorite thing about Schooner Inn? They are a small business that supports charities including one for cancer and Surfers Healing. They are right on the beach with ocean views. You truly can't beat it. read more

Hey Schooner Inn, how about waking up and start doing something about the great location you have... the owner's apparently has no idea what's going on here, I hope, AC doesn't get below 76, saw other guest bringing in fans they bought.... place is going downhill... I'm a loyal customer but wake up... there has been someone living in their car here for at least 2 or 3 years at the entrance to the stairs, not good at all impression for customers and management and/or owner's not doing anything about it read more

So the reviews were mixed on this hotel with some being very negative. However, with a limited budget and a desire for beach and oceanfront room - it was this hotel or nothing. Last stop on the boardwalk both literally and figuratively. We arrived late Saturday night after booking months earlier through Booking.com. We pulled up to the office and parked by the pool right outside. Check in was super quick and easy - 2 room keys and wi fi password. Luggage cart was available so we loaded up and headed upstairs. Second floor room 226. GOOD ROOM. So far so good - the girl checking me in was very pleasant and helpful. I hoped the room would be OK. Hubby is used to Hampton Inns and often dogs the budget places I book when we go to the beach or NYC. I was in for a treat! The room was lovely. 2 large double beds tastefully accessorized with long pillow and sham. Clean linens on both the bed and in the bathroom. A little breakfast nook by the window with table and chairs, luggage racks, kitchenette stocked with the basics - range, fridge, microwave, coffee maker. Balcony was awesome with 2 chairs and nothing between us and the beach but a railing (no netting or other barrier often placed there). TV worked fine and plenty of outlets. So we were set! Hubby moved the car to the "permanent" spot along the perimeter and in the shade. It would not move for 4 days. There is a slow moving double elevator but we always took the steps. We were towards the end where the steps were, our car was, and the alley to the beach. Just perfect. Day 1 on the beach we learned there are no umbrella or chair rentals near us. No problem as we had 2 chairs, towels, a blanket and small cooler. Hubby hit Sunsations and for $35 we had an umbrella. If you go this route, you will have trouble if there are high winds. Take the time to sink the pole VERY DEEP into the sand. We did not do so and couldn't use it 1 day and it blew out one day. The walk to the beach is so short - easy to run up to use the restroom, cool down or grab a bite to eat. There are also spickets on your way to rinse the sand off. Also close are at least 3 good places to eat - 2 dinner (Chix on the Beach, Waterman's) and breakfast (Mahi's). The last night we wanted to see the rest of the boardwalk and try something new - so we took the trolley to the other end and slowly walked the 3 miles back. I highly recommend as the other end of the boardwalk is a bit different. Not better but offers a different vibe. The staff checked in daily to offer service - linen change, coffee, towels, etc. Each was nicer than the prior one. We didn't need much - trash dumped and coffee. But this is so much better than Hampton Inn where you have to track someone down to get more TP. We did have one issue with the toilet which was not caused by me (which leaves . . . hubby?). Anyways, I went to the front desk to ask for a plunger and they had to call maintenance - who was knocking on the door less than 5 minutes later. AWESOME service. Again, better than Hampton Inn. Check out was easy. And I'm assuming here I'll get the $50 hold released as promised. I have no reason to believe they won't as everything else was as promised or better. I HIGHLY recommend you stay here! Definitely would do it again. read more

We always stay at the Schooner when we come to VB. Located next to the inlet, it's a short walk to go fishing. It's also less crowded at the south end and quieter as the night life starts further up. Clean rooms, comfy beds and a beach front balcony. Can't beat the value. read more

I booked the king room w jacuzzi for valentines day.....The room and beach view was beautiful and romantic, My issue is the bed was hard as a rock, pillows was small and uncomfortable just too soft....The hotel cuts off the AC unit during winter time which I don't get why have a AC unit box in the rooms if u can't control the cold air.....It's Feb 14th and it's 70 degrees out smh....I'm allergic to heat and they give me a box fan smh, Unacceptable !!!!!!!!! the room was hot at night I had to open the balcony to get air in room at night....I was so uncomfortable I checked out @3am , My room on the 6th floor and the only working ice machine is on the 4th....I don't recommend this hotel and I will not return....I paid too much for being too uncomfortable!!!! I stayed at the Schooner Inn for about two and a half weeks, as part of a very large group. We all work for a production company that was hired to build the stages and execute production for the Something In The Water Festival here in VA Beach. All I have to say is a huge "Thank You" to the entire staff at the Schooner Inn for being so helpful and accommodating. We worked very long and odd hours, came in pretty dirty and there was a lot of us to shuffle around, with room assignments changing fairly regularly due to the shifting nature of our work. A huge shout out to Robert at the front desk, you guys need to give that man a raise, seriously. Great place to stay, great staff and accomodations. Definitely hope I get to stay here again next year read more

The hotel is a little out dated but very worth what we paid for it!! At the price we paid I was expecting to see a bug or two but not the case. Beds very comfortable and room clean..well mine was. My daughter for two strains of hair on the sheets. Also, the room doors really sucked! Elbow grease had to be used to make sure it was closed. Other than that I would stay here again. Plenty of parking and oceanfront all for about $70!! Definitely couldn't beat that. read more

We stayed here on 11/14/2021 and 11/15/2021.  The front desk was super nice and friendly.  I don't even know where to start on the room!  We're already planning our next trip.  Room was perfect- Jacuzzi tub (!), with a small balcony. Had a kitchenette, fridge, microwave and coffee. Tried to do laundry with the online app (machines don't take quarters) but it wouldn't start, but whatever - I'd rather listen to the ocean. The shower had enough pressure. We enjoyed the room so much we flexed our travel plans and extended a night.  The second room was a king. My family and I stayed in this hotel on our way home to NY from VA. Upon arrival there were no luggage carts available, we saw one throughout our stay, and there were again none when we checked out. The workers at the front desk carried a bit of an attitude when we asked about this. I will say that the room was very clean and orderly. Since this hotel is located in Ocean City, Maryland, there is plenty to do within walking distance of the hotel. The views were also pretty nice. read more

Smallish older hotel at the end of the boardwalk near Rudee Inlet. Our check-in clerk, Robert, gave us plenty of information upon arrival. The room was simple and tasteful, and was the freshest-smelling hotel room I'd ever encountered. Nice pool, and the hotel faces the beach. Everyone on staff was courteous and friendly. It's less populated on the beach than properties closer to the center of the boardwalk, which suited us well. I'd stay here again for sure! read more

Front desk night manager was nice when I stayed there, but I would not go back. Hotel is in a good location on the beach, but in my opinion the hotel is old and run down. Heater didn't work and the system blew cold air all night long. Looks like original decor from the 1960's or 1970's. They requested a $50 per room security deposit for two rooms and 10 days later they still have not refunded my credit card. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. We just returned home from our second stay at Schooner. The first time was 7-8 years ago. There are pros and cons to staying, but overall, if you're not an uppity person who needs an immaculate and modern place to stay, Schooner isn't a bad choice. Pros: Great location! It's the first hotel on the boardwalk, located next to Rudee Inlet. It's nice not having hotels on both sides. We really enjoy watching the boats come and go. Whirlpool tubs are nice, and they sit by the window. Very relaxing to sit in and watch the beach at the same time. Bed is pretty comfortable. Staff is friendly. Cons: A bit outdated, which as far as decor goes, doesn't bother us, but some things desperately need to be updated. The doors and locks are in bad shape, for one. Carpets need to be shampooed!!! We had black feet from walking in our room!! Elevator area can be a bit slow and congested. While the rooms are clean, they really need a DEEP CLEAN. Corners of the bathroom floor need to be scrubbed, and photo frames, TV, etc need to be wiped down and dusted. Underneath the mini fridge is nasty! Mop the floors and shampoo the carpets! Again, not a bad choice if these things don't bother you. For the price, compared to other hotels on the beach, it's pretty reasonable. We had a couple small maintenance issues, and the staff was on it and fixed the problems immediately. I do feel like they need to get on top of the small updates soon before the place becomes run down and turns people off. I would hate to see them close. read more

Great place to stay in during the winter season. The prices is cheap for what it is and some of the rooms even have heart shaped jacuzzis in the room. I live 10 mins away but every once in a while my girlfriend and I will book a room to use the jacuzzi and get away for a night. The staff is a little slow but will get the job done. read more

I'll have to agree with others- it is a 5 for the value. It isn't ritzy or fancy, but it is a good place to stay right on the beach on a budget. Everything worked, staff was friendly (for the most part-one questionable person). Rooms were clean. One thing to note...if you are staying on first floor, there could be a lot of noise and cigarette smoke depending on what neighbors you get. You are basically sharing a patio, so you will be taking your chances. read more

What a perfect location, hotel and stay! I read reviews on multiple travel sites for weeks on VA Beach Hotels, Condos and rentals in general. I came to the conclusion that the best location, value and consistency of satisfaction was the Schooner Inn. Turns out my reading, research and comparisons was absolutely correct! The staff from Desk to Housekeeping in very friendly and efficient. I have nothing but positive thoughts on the entire staff. As for the room it was clean, spacious and comes with a spectacular view from both the beach front balconies to the entrance door back side overlooking a Marina plus beautiful Bayside homes. I have been to the other end with many chain hotels that charge double or triple and that area is congested along with much less desirable in many ways. The ONLY place I will ever book and stay should I return to VA Beach is the Schooner Inn!!! read more

While it is an older hotel, the rooms are still pretty nice and the amenities cannot be beat! We stayed in a two bed room which also featured a mini-fridge, two burner stove, TV, wifi, plates, silverware, cups, a coffee maker and an ice machine just down the hall. The balcony proved relaxing as we were also able to sit and listen to the waves crash into shore with an amazing view of the beach. Close by you have various restaurants with the option to Doordash so you don't have to go out if you don't want to. The hotel also has a heated outdoor pool that was perfectly set to not be too cold yet not too hot either. You're also in great walking distance to a giant playground for the kids. Along with Rudee boat tours for dolphins in the spring and summer and whales in the later months! read more

Dissatisfied, terrible parking. Room door broken, smelled like mold. Nothing else to add other then I do not recommend

When we check in, we were asked which of 3 floors we preferred as they had 3 rooms available in our selection. The room we received was disgusting. It smelled moldy when we opened the door. The coffee pot and microwave were disgusting and did not appear to have been cleaned in some time. The "dust ruffle" around the beds were covered in dirty footprints. The furniture hadn't been cleaned as the lower shelf and the drawers had dirt and hair in them. The electronics were so dirty I wouldn't touch them, including the power strip on the night stand and the clock. Upon complaining in person at the front desk, a man who identified himself as the maintenance man was loud and rude and most unprofessional. Another young man (I don't know which pronouns he wants used) told us they were fully booked and we could have our room refunded and we could leave. This was an issue because less than 15 minutes prior we were told there were 3 rooms available. After much ado, we were finally shown to another room which smelled clean and appeared to be clean. Shortly thereafter, I spoke to the wife of another employee (who I accidentally met in the lobby) and told her what had transpired. She assured me what we experienced was not the norm and told me to speak to the manager the next morning. The next morning, the manager was "unavailable" and, despite several requests for him to do so, he did not speak to us. Instead, he had the front desk advise us that our room charges were being reversed. Despite this step, it would have been good business to speak to us in person. The location of this place is great, and the older vibe of the place is quaint, but two of the staff members should be terminated immediately. I have names if management wants them. read more

Was a decent stay for the price. The room does come with a kitchen and mostly everything was included. Our biggest concern was safety and noise from other rooms. conveniently close to the shore and the boardwalk, as well as Grommet Island. Just be prepared for noisy neighbors and the TV in the room didn't work. We called to confirm our reservation the day of check in since we had a 5 hour drive, called at 9:30am and it took us until 10am to get through to someone. Once we finally got there on the first night we were taking out our key cards and there were 2 suspicious teenage boys lingering right next to us while we were trying to get into our room. As 2 younger women we felt unsafe as one of the boys was clapping his hands to make us jump in the quiet hallway with nothing but a staircase at the end. Besides all of that, you get what you pay for. 3/5. read more

Absolutely horrible experience. I was told by the hotel that I had to be 18 or older to check in. I get there and they told me it was 21 and they refused to make an exception even though I drove 6 hours to Virginia Beach. The man at the front desk lied to me and said I would be refunded because of the misunderstanding but Priceline said the hotel refused to refund me. They wouldn't answer their phones when Priceline and I both called 6+ times and their email system on their website was down. From what I saw the hotel was dumpy, run down, parking was horrible and the pool was gross. Front desk people are liars and I will never step foot in this motel (not actually a hotel or an "Inn") ever again. read more

The location and view from the whirlpool what makes this place a great stay. Staff members are friendly. There is a sand playground right outside of the hotel which is a plus for the kids. Parking is somewhat tight but they have a second lot which makes it easier to park. They have an outside pool which was nice. Ice machine worked and had ice. Two elevators and stairs on each end of the hotel. Beds was comfortable rooms where somewhat clean. Had a small kitchenette with a sink, mini fridge and microwave. Cons about the place. Carpet needs to be replaced or deep cleaned. Left black prints on our feet. Ac didnt cool like other hotels we had stayed in, so the rooms got pretty warm sometimes. The toilet did get clogged but maintenance did fix the issue right away. The ceiling by the kitchenette was leaking. Highlights of the hotel, get the whirlpool room with double bed, you can push them together to make a california king size bed. The view and location. They are next to Waterman so you can walk there instead of trying to find parking. The playground. read more

Great staff. Very convenient location. Extremely reasonable price.. Beautiful view...

This was my first time at VA Beach and my first time staying at the Schooner Inn. The biggest plus is that it is located next to the beach. It was easy to access for my family. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful when asking for a restaurant that delivers. *Hint* many restaurants are NOT doing take-out because they are busy. We did not get the upgraded room with a kitchenette and jacuzzi, but we did have a balcony. My biggest problem was the room was old, the bathroom small, and the aesthetics were outdated. There are plenty of well-known hotel chains but they are much more expensive. If you want to be near the beach and save some cash, then you are in the right place. read more

Came here for 2 nights with my fiancé on our way back to New York City after spending a week in Asheville NC. It was our first time here and we booked the room because of the beachfront location and whirlpool--both of which were great. Things were going ok until I stepped on a piece of SHARP PLASTIC on our bathroom floor the morning after we arrived. I was bleeding a lot, ruined our morning, thankfully I didn't need stitches. We found another piece of sharp plastic which my fiancé brought to the people at the front desk. Management totally REFUSED to acknowledge that this is a liability and they have a duty to ensure guests safety and well-being. I disputed this and asked for a night compensated to no avail. It was implied that we had caused this? Or the plastic was ours? Not possible since we arrived late and I didn't use the bathroom until the morning after we arrived.. completely audacious! Furthermore, the hotel itself it dingy. Needs to be revamped badly. AND I saw a roach in the hallway on the 6th floor and room was never cleaned! There are people smoking cigarettes in the hotel as well!!!!On top of all this, there are jets that fly over the hotel 24/7. I'm a light sleeper and this was not fun for either one of us and my fiancé sleeps like a rock. Outlandish and downright disgraceful!!!! Avoid this shithole at all costs!!! read more

We have stayed here multiple times over the last 10 years and truly enjoyed each visit. We have recommended this hotel l to many of our friends. However during our last visit this all changed. On the 1st night we found out there was no heat in the hotel. The front desk girl said that it had not been turned on yet. The maintenance guy brought us 2 blankets and said the heat WAS working. He tried to fix it but nothing worked. There was heat in the entrance hall but if not available in rooms, then this should have been communicated at the time we reserved the room. Additionally, we could not get in our front door because it stuck and we had to hit it with our shoulder each time to get it open. On the 1st night our card reader stopped working and we had to wait 30 minutes for the maintenance guy to replace the entire lock. The hot tub had chips in the finish, there was mold around the built in lights and a vent that obviously had not been cleaned in recent days. The inner coating of the microwave was literally peeling off. We love the simplicity of The Schooner Inn and the location. We used to tell everyone that the staff was always personable and friendly. All of the issues we experienced could have been resolved! The girl at the front desk was unwilling to help and the guy at check out said we should have let someone know (we did! ). read more

I needed a little blue water therapy to chase away the winter blahs and a night at the oceanfront was just the ticket! Schooner Inn fit my budget of under 100.00 dollars. I didn't need anything fancy, just oceanfront and affordable. Schooner Inn offers that. Located at Rudee Inlet, the view provided was serene and busy both. Daytime views brought the comings and goings of whale watching boats, surfers looking like seals in their black wetsuits and a boardwalk full of folks. As the day closed it became virtually empty. So peaceful. Oh, the best part? A heart shaped hot tub positioned directly in front of that view. Yes you heard that right! If I could give zero stars I would. The young lady at the desk Jessica was very rude and had a nasty condescending tone. I am a person with disabilities and there was no available handicap parking available. I was told to park blocks away which goes against my disabilities. Stayed here for 4 nights in an economy room (two full-size beds and a kitchenette) overlooking the ocean. Because it's off-season, the room was undoubtably the least expensive of all the rooms that I priced along Atlantic Ave (oceanfront). I lived in Virginia Beach for a few years before I moved away, so I am very familiar with the area and the only other less-expensive rooms would be the ones on Pacific Ave... but I would strongly recommend that you avoid some of the seedy looking hotels because they're usually not as safe as the ones along Atlantic. Getting back into The Schooner Inn, while this hotel is nowhere near the quality of a four star hotel, for what you're paying for, I think it's fine. The customer service is absolutely amazing. The front desk, especially. I've spoken with at least three different representatives and every time, they've done everything they could to accommodate us. We had an issue where we needed maintenance to fix the deadbolt on our veranda door, and they made it to the room within three minutes of us calling the front desk. As for cleanliness in the room, I wouldn't exactly say the room was dirty... but it wasn't the cleanest. There's some dust and dirt on the floor, even after housekeeping comes through. I think the age of the building is the main factor and it's just difficult to maintain. A complete renovation is probably going to be needed to correct a lot of the issues with this hotel. But I never felt disgusted with the room and I never felt unsafe being here either. The parking lot was well-lit, but spots are tight and fill up fast. They have a one car per room limit for parking passes (which you'll need to use the hotel's lot) so make sure you don't have more than one vehicle to park in the lot. My only real issue staying here was with the housekeeping service. The times they come to clean is inconsistent. We asked the front desk about it and they said they work between 11:00am-4:30pm so you never know exactly when they'll be in your room to clean. Aside from that, I didn't mind staying here at the Schooner Inn. If you're looking for something more luxurious, you should stay somewhere else. But if you can deal with an older hotel that has a few issues and you're looking to save some money, you might want to check this hotel out and see if it's for you. read more

For an older hotel, it is well maintained. My room had 2 beds, kitchenette that was stocked with silverware, cups and plates, microwave, fridge, and lovely ground coffee maker! Entering the room and seeing the ocean was quite relaxing and gorgeous! The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful; Sandra even sang Happy Birthday to me in the elevator! It brought me to tears of happiness! The hotel is the last on the boardwalk, but closest to the boat cruises like the Dolphin Cruis with Rudee Tours! OMG we saw sooo many dolphins, mamas and babies, and a great view of the hotel. There is plenty of eateries down Atlantic Blvd, or take the cute little trolley for $1 and it drives up and down Atlantic Blvd on 15 minute increments so you don't have to walk the entire way! and if you LOVE US fighter jets, they fly overhead all day long; you will enjoy their power takeoffs and maneuvers. The hotel faces east for sunrise and they are spectacular! The only reason I knocked one star off is this non-smoking hotel is really not... just about every room around me had smokers on the balcony. As a cancer survivor was really hoping to leave my door open and listen to the ocean, but the smoke both cigarette and pot, forced me to close my door and keep it closed. I left 2 days early for this reason. read more
