I am very surprised this woman is still practicing. I came into contact with her a few years ago…read moreafter my spouse had passed. When I saw her, there wasn't any warmth or compassion - it was very awkward. She never made eye contact, kept asking me questions and writing notes. She got to a point where she asked me if my spouse and I had fought before their passing, which angered me as it wasn't an appropriate question to ask someone who was coming to her for grief counseling. She later then went on to say, she wished my spouse was there then we could talk to them. Well, if my spouse was there - I wouldn't have been to see her in the first place. The whole experience was awful and upsetting, definitely not what anyone needed trying to seek grief counseling. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone and truly am surprised she is still in business. I pity anyone who is referred to her.

Dr. Barbara Whitaker-Shimko was paid out of pocket by me and my ex-wife to do co-parenting…read morecounseling. I felt that the sessions were drawn out and ineffective for our daughter who was 7 at the time. One time upon arrival at her office which is at her home she didn't answer the door bell because she said she overslept. I was so annoyed that I wanted to stop going but it would have looked bad in the custody hearing. So when we went to the court for the hearing the judge asked us did we go to co-parenting counseling and we both said yes! She said I have no report from the counselor! Couldn't believe what I was hearing. She was paid every session. So the best part was that when my current wife went to the counseling session with my ex-wife Dr. Whitaker-Shimko first attacked her verbally for being a stay at home mom and then tried to demean me the whole session. Please run for the hills and get your monies worth with a better Doctor for your families sake. She almost caused me custody with my daughter thank God we settled out of court eventually!

The ladies who handle the phone are incredibly rude. I was a patient ther for a couple of months…read moreand when I was finally able to get back on the meds I needed I stopped going to therapy. I was not told that if I stopped that they wouldn't refill my script. On the phone INSTEAD of asking if I wanted to schedule an appointment they told me to call my primary and then hung up. Screw that. If they really weren't out for the money they wouldn't make me go to therapy and pay a $40 co pay on top of a $40 script. If they knew anything they'd know that there is a difference between a chemical imbalance - which has only been cured for me through medication (after 10 years of therapy) and not make me go and sit in silence for a script. I liked the therapist and the doctors. Their policies are ridiculous and inconvenient and the staff sucks. If they really cared about their patients they would have called me after they received the request for a script refill and not just tell me to go somewhere else.

I was charged $100 for a no call no show visit and I was waiting for the receptionist to send me the text to start the televisit. I called the receptionist who was rude and she told me that i should have called at 2:25. I told her I didn't know. She said well you probably missed your appt. And I did. But the next day the receptionist called me to reschedule, she got loud and rude again and said that i was a no call no show for the visit. I couldn't even speak to whoever makes that decision to waive the fee. The person or people who make the decision just passes the info onto the rude receptionist or a billing representative!
