After spending a couple of weeks touring Italy, my wife and I found ourselves in Rome the day before our flight back to the US. Being a Sunday night we were looking for a place to watch some NFL football. The Scholars Lounge hit the mark. Loud, busy, crowded, bustling, 5 or 6 games going on at one time, American (or English speaking) staff, Guinness on tap, friendly fun-loving patrons, and just a lot of fun. Tons of TVs to watch "football" and an excellent place to drop off husbands while you go shopping off of the via Delle Corso big shopping street nearby). Great Irish pub. I had some scrumptious fish and chips and a nice craft beer. We were waiting to head to the U2 concert and got to enjoy U2 music while eating our lunch. Oh Scholars, What a wonderful place my friends and I discovered early in our adventures. With karaoke 3 times a week it is a great time for gatherings. The staff are wonderful people always looking to meet travelers and cater to your needs. For sports it was wonderful and they have a separate side fro t.v.'s and karaoke! Also, the food is not bad. Check it out for sure when you stop in Rome as it is right at Piazza Venezia/ the central hub of transportation. read more

We searched for a place to watch the Miami F1 race while we were in Rome. It seems that there are only 2-3 sports bars that DONT have their TV's tuned to Football (soccer) on every TV. Overwhelming reviews said this was the place! What people failed to mention was they had the sound off and were blaring disco tunes like "It's Raining Men" and "YMCA". I took a quick but hard scan of the room. OK, it's cool, I didn't just wander into a gay bar. The place was packed, hot and nowhere to sit. There were 2 small tvs tuned to F1. My girlfriend and I were invited to sit with a sweet red headed Dutch girl sitting by her self, I didn't have the heart to tell her I wasn't a Max Verstappen fan. There were no waiters and an ungodly line at the bar. Halfway through the race they told us that we had to get up and away from our table so they could set up for karaoke. Needless to say I would probably look for another location to watch races next time I am in Rome read more

Great Vibe. Excellent service. Excellent food, and drinks. My Murphy's red pint was perfection, as my husbands Guinness. The Guinness Stew was recommended, and was point on. I enjoyed my fish and chips, thoroughly. We ended our visit, with the two best Irish coffees, I have ever had. We are huge hockey fans, and Stanley Cup Playoffs are going on, and we didn't have to miss getting in on the action, since they had great large televisions all around. read more

As with many bars in the area people can get pretty aggressive. Travel in a group, keep an eye on your friends. Bouncers are around and usually break up disturbances pretty quickly. Drinks are a little expensive but very good. They have karaoke nights which are a lot of fun. Live music from time to time. Overall pretty fun. read more

Very cool Irish pub. It has some good Irish beers like Guinness, Murphy's, magners, and hop house 13 (which is hard to find outside Ireland and the uk). They carry a lot of German favorites as well. This place is awesome! Came in here for a drink and a bite with my friends after a long day of school and shopping. We went around 5/6pm on a Wednesday and I guess it was karaoke night but we couldn't go tonight and will surely come back for it! The waitress, CLAIRE was very nice and friendly. She's the best! I ordered the scholars illusion( I think that was the name) and a scholar burger! The drink was very light and sweet but it tasted good! It's a very girly drink. My burger had bacon and an egg which tasted delicious. I stole some chips and lettuce from my friend and added it on, which made it even better! The fries were just okay though. We chilled there for a bit and it's a great place to just hangout with friends. They have free wifi! The password is "scholars" yayyyy! Had a good experience and definitely recommend because it gave me a little taste of home(california). Good food, good service. After a steamy day wandering in the ruins, we stopped in here to refresh and relax. We had the best service! Because it was so warm we asked for "iced water" along with our other beverages and lunch choices. This is 't usually done in Rome, but our waiter was fine with it. So much so, that when we asked for another round, he brought a pitcher of ice water along with the beers! We ordered the chicken wrap and a hamburger. Both were very tasty. Atmosphere was enjoyable, with some music on the back ground, and a soccer game and car race on the television. read more

Get the loaded nachos! I'm from Cali, and have been to Mexico many times. These nachos are better than 80% of legit mexican restaurants.

We spent 12 days in 8 cities in Italy and this was the worst place we went to. The staff is genuinely Irish and they're nice, that's their only plus. My pint of Guinness had a very strong taste of metal in the finish and was tough to drink, service was extremely slow, and the burger we ordered was a microwaved, thin, frozen burger on a bun so dry that it was crumbling in my hands. Awful food...even the salad tasted bad. Being a restaurant manager myself I really hate to leave negative reviews, but this was just bad. read more

This place is great. The so called bars in Rome are more like cafes with tables and chairs and no seats at the actual bar like back home. If you want a party like atmosphere you have to go to a pub and this pub is awesome. Good food, good prices, great music, great staff. Our regular bartender was Mark is a cool straight off the boat Irish lad with a great personality and some good stories. All the study abroad kids seam to hangout there so it's loud crowded and a good time. I know it sounds weird that I traveled all the way to Rome to hangout at an Irish pub, but the Italian "bars" suck. read more

Great little pub. Good selection of drinks and staff that speaks english. American and English/Irish sports on the TV, an acceptable selection of bar foods and especially well cooked fries. Came out a bit short on ketchup though, probably just a cultural thing. I asked for more and it was quickly delivered. Overall, a good little hidden-away spot. You have to try the stews here! They're amazing! I had the Mama's stew consisting of lamb meat, potatoes, and mashed potatoes in the center. It was very savory and flavorful. Boyfriend had the beef guiness stew -- it cannot be replicated! Huge portions -- one stew is large enough to share between 2 people but we ended up getting 1 each since we were so hungry. went to this bar one night and ordered three mojitos. they put up a stink about making a drink that was on their menu because it would take too long. they ended up charging my card 3 times while saying it was not going through each time. i proceeded to show them my bank account showing the charges went through and they kept fighting and yelling at me and calling me names, something you should never do to a customer. the bartender was sexist and would not listen to me because i was woman and kept asking for a man to talk to about the situation. over all a terrible time and lost €130 i'll never get back. read more

Looking for a warm and cozy place for drink? In Rome, Scholars is a good bet. Lots of televisions showing sports from all over the world and plenty of beer on tap and friendly bartenders. Seating is also a plus as there are options for open seating or enclosed booths. Obviously very popular as it got plenty filled as dinner hour approached. Scholars is a very popular, very busy Irish pub between the Vittoriano and Largo di Torre Argentina. It attracts lots of British, Irish, and American students, as well as other internationals. If you're a student or young tourist in Rome, it's probably a rite of passage to go to Scholars at least once. That said, I'm not its biggest fan. It's very expensive and it gets VERY loud. They do have live music sometimes, which is fun, but it can get so crowded and hot that it's impossible to move without fear of having a drunk American frat-star spill Guinness all over you. So, like the Drunken Ship, it's probably somewhere you should pop in and see, but do your drinking somewhere more affordable. read more

As a college student, we frequented here at least once if not twice a week for drinks & karaoke. Just across the river from Trastevere, it was always a fun night out. I wouldn't recommend it at night for non college students, as that is most of the crowd. There are always plenty of sports screens playing & people looking to have a good time. Some friends recommended this place to us. We stopped in after touring some of the major sites close by. We were there for happy hour - offering one euro off pints. My husband ordered beer and I had a mixed drink - unknowingly, I paid 6.50euro for the gin and another 3 euro for the "mixer", really? The food was okay, nothing spectacular - regular bar food at it's best. It was a nice diversion from the pizza stands and we could read the menus no problem.
