I have never been in there when they have more than two checkouts open. They serve the purpose of oh I need this but do not want to go to Edwardsville or Collinsville. I have never seen anyone do their weekly shopping there. That does not mean it doesn't just I have never seen it. Their AC seldom seems to be working completely as it is always warm in there. I grabbed a soda out of a "cooler" in the back and it was very warm. Maybe they had just stocked it but I pulled from the back of the "refrigerated" case so unlikely but maybe. They had a small fan circulating air over the produce. When it was time to check out there were four people in line none of us had more than five items. Like I said they serve a purpose of needing one or two things but that is about it.

A no-frills produce stand, with a variety of in-season produce. But this place stands out for the friendly shopkeepers and the spice selection is enormous! Literally, an entire corner of the store is dedicated to various seasonings and dried herbs. And, they even pre-mix their own seasoning mixes like Carribean Jerk and Applewood Smoke Rub. Also, if you are looking for specialty items, there is a good chance you could find it here. For instance, I've been hearing a lot about chia seeds, but I had no idea where I could find them. Lo and behold, I got a bag full here, and you can find coconut flakes, various dried fruits and nuts, specialty oils, local honey, salsas, and dressings. What I always get when I stop in: Amish Apple Butter. Silky sweet spreadable apple goodness. I could eat it out of the jar with a spoon! Columbia Market is just...groceries, including fresh produce, packaged items, meat, and dairy. There's no coffee bar, in-store bakery, or deli sandwich counter. It's inventory is much smaller than the local supermarket chains and prices are higher. So, it may not be the place where you do your weekly family purchasing, but for Main Street area residents and shopkeepers it is convenient and well stocked.

They have an excellent salad bar. Wonderful fresh sushi. An amazing variety of wines. The town's wonderful florist shop is now moved into the building. They have dry cleaning drop off and pickup. A deli with hot food and everything a good deli needs. -Betty Ann Market just meets every qualification for a major modern supermarket, and it is here in our little town! -I try to do all my shopping there because: it is a wonderful store with everything you need at great prices, they are truly GOOD people with smiling small town spirits, and I want to support my local community. -Instead of driving half an hour away (and then back again) we have a major modern supermarket right here, just a few minutes away! (How much is an hour total travel time AND gas worth in this day and age?). The only bad incident that we had was when we bought a large container of pepperoncinis a week ago that were on the shelf next to the freezers with a little dust on it, their color all looked a little off but "wasnt expired" so we bought one. We had it immediately opened when we got home. Upon tasting one, they tasted way to soft (like they were going soggy, but wasnt) and the flavor was off. My husband happened to notice and pointed out that there was indeed "mold" under the paper seal which wasnt tampered. I would get the others on the shelf tossed for future reference so another health safety concern happens again. Besides that incident, Tru Buy is a great family friendly place to shop at.

Their products use milk and cream from humanely raised cows, and many are gluten-free or offer dairy-free options. Prima Ancestral Protein Bars are animal-based protein bars designed around "ancestral" or nose-to-tail, real-food nutrition principles. We loved the herb/veggie plants this spring, love the fresh, local produce (great mushrooms!!!), and local milk! They have such cool, unique ingredients and have really leveled up our cooking. We love buying local, and love that they also support all local vendors. Such a fantastic business.
