I recently had the unfortunate experience of having my car towed due to my own mistake of parking in the wrong place. From the moment I called Schmer's Towing to ask about my car, the on-call (Sam) was understanding and informative, explaining the entire process to me and answering all of my questions patiently. Despite my embarrassment and frustration, she went above and beyond to ensure that the process was as smooth and stress-free as possible. Since I was from outside the state, Sam took particular care to text me directions to their location and give me a timeframe of when to arrive so I wouldn't waste any time waiting. Throughout the entire process, Schmer's Towing staff maintained a high level of professionalism and courtesy, which really helped to put my mind at ease during such a stressful time. Sam was able to get me back into my car and on my way quickly and safely. Overall, I can't recommend Schmer's Towing highly enough--even if your initial contact with them is because you parked in the wrong place at the wrong time (ooops!)--and everywhere in Old Town, Fort Collins, CO seems to be the wrong place to park! My $300,000 high end super car broke down on college Ave last weekend and needed a tow to a local high performance shop about 10 minutes from the spot it broke down. After going the wrong way 3 times and having to borderline stand on college Ave waving, he finally found the Wide open street where my car was sitting. This is when things went bad fast. When he got out of the tow truck he didn't ask where he could hook it up to, ( I had told him on the phone my front axle had snapped and he could not hook onto that to tow it onto the truck) he walked past me without saying a word, backed the truck up about an inch from hitting my front bumper and proceeded to try and hook it up directly to my obviously broken axle. After telling him he cannot do that, he proceeded to get in my face and tell me I don't know sh*t about my own car (yanno, the one I've spent 2 years/200k building) and demanded my key to which I replied "No" because the snapped axel had damaged my engine which could not be turned on or more damage would occur. I then tried to explain to him that I will be turning the car "on" the correct way to put it into neutral without actually starting the engine, he then tried to grab my key out of my hand and get in the car himself, to which I said "excuse me?" And he replied "I know these cars better than you", I replied "no, you do not, now please step aside so I can put it in neutral" he aggressively slammed the door shut and stood about 2 inches from my face glaring at me, I then laughed as this intimidation factor would likely work on the average person, but not a trained professional MMA fighter :) After he finally managed to get it on the truck, he drove off without even asking where to drop it off, so he called me about 2 minutes into us following the truck and demanded the address, which I replied with. He chose to park it in the snow and mud in a back lot as far from the shop as he could, left my key sitting on the hood and drove off. Whoever this driver is, he has a dog and a horrible attitude, completely and total lack of basic communication skills and probably a meth addiction. -10/10 this company may not be bad but boy that driver was a nightmare and a half. Schmer's claims that they were hired by Palmer Properties to tow from the 24 Hour pay to park lot on Laurel St between Cold Stone and Pizza Rev. Palmer Properties says they do not have any contract with Schmer's yet this tow company is threatening customers with arrest for trespassing using Pamler's name. THE SIGNAGE IS DECEPTIVE, small and it's not clear that it's not like city owned lots where parking is free evenings and weekends. They are counting on people not knowing it's the ONLY privately owned 24/7 pay lot in town. Rude tow truck drivers, threaten customers of nearby businesses. They tried to hook up a car with paid receipt that was there 10 minutes. The lot has a one hour limit and they will tow after 61 minutes. In my opinion, they probably get a % of each fee from unknowing residents and visitors to Fort Collins. Employees of nearby businesses are getting the brunt of complaints from upset customers. *Complain to the Public Utilities Commission* if you were illegally hooked up, towed or couldn't see the tiny 24 hour signage and paid $65 - $200. **CALL Palmer Properties and tell them to put up a bigger sign** *** Park for FREE*** anytime on the street and after 4 PM and weekends across the street at CSU (where the tow truck also sits). I had just parked and was still in the car along with my children. While the car was still running I saw a man getting under my car to latch it. I rolled down my window and said"what do you think your doing?". He said I needed to pay for parking. I asked if he was planning to tow the vehicle with me and my kids in the vehicle. He said that the windows were tinted and didn't see us. I told him the windows were tinted and the car is still running. He then went on to try to tow someone who had actually paid for parking. We were driving home to Utah on I-287 and broke down going up the canyon. I didn't have cell service to call for a tow and was about to start walking until I was able to call. James happened to be driving through the canyon and stopped to help us. The timing couldn't have been more perfect, and we were so happy he pulled over. We would have been broken down in the canyon after dark, and it would have been quite a walk for me to get cell service to call. My son had parked his car at a place where he had written permission to park. Somehow, there was confusion, and it got towed. The office at that business doesn't know who called, and was surprised it happened. The owner of the Schmer's won't say who it was. That aside, what happened afterward is just wrong. They didn't even do a search for the owner to notify us it had been towed for 8 days. Four days after that, they got around to sending a certified letter, because that's the slowest way to let you know. I signed for the letter on the first delivery attempt. It was the first knowledge we had that it had been towed, 16 days after they did it. Enclosed was an invoice for $480. I called them, and was told it was actually now $720, and increasing by $30 per day. That was on a Thursday, and my son was out of state until Monday, so we picked it up Tuesday, which was our first chance to do anything about it, with a final bill of $870. In an age of databases and instant communication, it shouldn't take 16 days to find out your car has been towed. They should not be able to wait 8 days to bother finding out who it even belongs to. Time is of the essence here for the "customer," and they should be notified ASAP, by the end of that business day, and certainly by the next. Not by snail mail more than two weeks after the fact. It's not the 1970's anymore. My older son about 10 years ago was playing at the Alley Cat with his band. They all parked behind the Alley Cat, and unloaded their gear. They came out after the show, and every one of their cars was gone. They eventually found a little sign behind a bush, barely visible during the day, and pretty much invisible at night. Each one of these high school kids had a bill from Schmer's for $350 to get their cars back. None of them had jobs. I've known lots of people who have had experiences with them at the lot for Cold Stone and Pizza Casbah, hooking up cars that are a minute or two past time, sometimes with the protesting driver there, and Schmer's telling them they have to pay anyway. The parking lot next to Perkins is gone now, but that place was a total cash cow for these folks. What they are doing is technically legal, but totally unethical. I have written to the Better Business Bureau (where they have a 1 star out of five rating), gave them a review on Yelp (where they have a 2.5 out of 5 rating), and have also written to the PUC, where these companies have written their own dream regulations. I have also shared my story with the Governor, my state rep and senator, the county commissioners, the mayor, and my city council rep. I already heard back from Representative Ginal, she said in the 2022 legislative session they were going to be working on these predatory business practices by towing companies. These practices disproportionally affect the poor, who have no way to pay the outlandish fees, and end up losing their cars, and thereby their ability to go to work, care for their families, and exist in society. It's a horrible setback for them, and the towing company just sells their vehicles and makes a tidy profit at their expense. I understand the need for there to be a penalty for parking scofflaws who willfully violate parking ordinances, but these practices are predatory and unfair, especially to those who are barely making it. If you have stories about this business, please share them with BBB, PUC, and your state and local reps, they'll be working on this issue in the upcoming legislative term. We contacted Schmer's to jumpstart our Prius. The dispatcher quoted $50 to my husband so we decided to go with their service. My husband gave clear directions, including spelling out our address and giving a nearby major road for reference. The driver went to the wrong address and had to contact us directly to find out where to go. Upon arrival we found out the driver didn't know how to jump a Prius. He had to call his office to find out how to do it. At the end of it all, we were charged $65. The driver even showed me a text from his company telling him to charge us this much. This is very unprofessional. If you quote a price for a service, that is what you should charge. We've used this company in the past with no problems, but we will be finding a different company for our future needs. read more

Driver/Operator Chad showed up within minutes of our call and efficiently prepped our rig for flatbed towing on his 30' trailer. This entailed laying in the melting snow to fasten "hooks' to under chassis, expertly guiding our Sprinter onto the tilt bed without scrapping the rear tow hitch/step and securely tie down for Highway travel. Very unprofessional predatory towing company. Our vehicle was towed by them due to being back 20 minutes late in a parking lot outside a very busy sandwich shop. When we took an Uber to retrieve our vehicle, the gate attendant threatened our Uber driver. $200 to tow & storage charge our vehicle 1.9 miles where it was held for ransom for 15 minutes. Uncaring attendant could care less about an economically disadvantaged family who endured the same predatory practice as experienced by us. AAA Colorado dispatched Schmer's Towing to tow my father's car because the alarm would not shut off thereby disabling the car. James actually knew how to go through a reset sequence using the key and key fob and was able get my dad back on the road within a few minutes. Schmer's popped up. They were out very quickly. Not only were able to charge my battery, they told me a variety of places in town that would sell and install a new battery for m. Highly unprofessional and dirty drivers. They look and smell like they have never taken a shower. One was sitting in the parking lot by chipotle and he smirked as I walked by to grab some lunch. Little did I know he was smirking because as soon as I left (not even for 5 minutes), he already had my car on his truck. The sign said 30 minutes parking and had only 3 food places listed on it. If you are planning on towing someone's car who is within ear distance. Just tell them! I would've happily moved my car and walked from a block away. When I flagged down the driver, he was a jerk and said he would release my car for $65 or he would take it away. James is the nicest tow truck driver in Fort Collins. He works the beat by the Alley Cat and Coldstone Creamery and is very professional despite having the difficult job of towing people. My buddy managed to catch him right before he took off and it was only $65. Other companies charge hundreds without even leaving the lot. My sons jeep broke down on a paved highway just outside of Fort Collins. AAA gave the tow to Schmers Towing. A driver allegedly came to the place the vehicle was disabled and said the vehcile was not there. Either they can not follow directions or the driver was blind. My son and his friend were stranded for over 5 hours. After a good samiritan towed the jeep back to my sons apt in Fort Collins, AAA once again contaced Schmers towing to take the vehicle to a repair shop. This time they came to my sons apt. and moved the vehicle to the middle of the parking lot and unhooked it. This towing company is unprofessional and undependable. read more

As my husband has stage four prostate cancer and was in Fort Collins for a treatment, I found out that the towing company was Schmer's Towing. I called them, explained the situation and J.R. went back immediately to get my husband to bring him to the towing company. This place deserves a severe negative star rating for corrupt business practices. I grew up in FOCO, went to CSU, and most of my family and friends live in the town. My husband and 3yr old son were here visiting from Florida and parked in the lot on Laurel between Chipolte and Cold Stone. We paid for parking, put the receipt on the dash board per the instructions and went to grab lunch at the Pickle Barrel. We did not even come close to spending an hour eating and returned to the lot to find our rental car gone. I called the number for Schmers to find out that the car had been taken by mistake. I was told the driver would be returning with the car. After waiting for awhile I called the police because for all I knew the car had been stolen. The police dispatcher automatically connected with Schmers towing......... I didn't even tell her my location and after a brief hold, she had info that the tow truck driver was on his way back. We waited and the tow truck showed up with out the car. I spoke to the driver and he told me to get in the truck with him and he would take me to my car. I told him I have my husband and a 3yr old with me and he told me we could all fit into the passenger seat of the truck.....??!!! Really?! So he was asking us to do something extremely illegal, considering a 3yr old needs to be in a child seat. Finally, I decided to just go with him by myself to get the car. The tow truck driver dropped me off far away, in a gravel dump lot and quickly sped away, probably to get more cars. I have never written a negative review in my life because I work with the public and understand things that happen and come up, but incidents like this are completely unacceptable. I am sure there are more victims out there that have had to deal with Schmers Towing. I am also disappointed that the FOCO police department does business with them too. This is the worst company I've ever had to deal with. We were led on for 5 hours at night waiting for a driver(his name was AL) to come just for him to never show up and say we were offroad when we were on a fully maintained and paved road. The next day they sent the same driver out and he was very rude and aggressive. He moved my car out of the parking space I was in to hook it up then he realized it was the same car as the night before and left without hooking the car up and just left it in the middle of the parking lot. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOING THROUGH ANYONE BUT THEM. The driver was very incompetent,rude and unprofessional. I have been towed by Schmer's four times in the past six months (yes, it's unfortunate) and three of those times were wonderful. The truck driver (I had the same one all three times) was nice, courteous, and conversational. Today I had my car towed by a man named Bobby. He was rude and very, very condescending. My car's starter is having troubles and I needed a tow to my mechanic. When he arrived, he greeted me asking what was wrong with my car. I explained that it was my starter and that's why it's going to the shop. He immediately insisted on trying to jump it, refusing to take no for an answer. He tried to explain that it could be a problem with my battery or alternator (which would both be possible except for the fact that they're both new and there was no solenoid clicking coming from the starter). As he was connecting the battery charger he condescendingly started to explain how to jump a car, negative vs. positive, etc. I stopped him, telling him that I know how to do it. May I add, he called me "sweety" within nearly every sentence, making it obvious to me that my gender was the reason for the condescension during the whole ordeal. After trying to start my car, he got it up on the truck, insisting on my going inside. Moments later he approached my house, asking to use my restroom. I welcomed him in and showed him where it was. On his way out of my home, he decided to add to my frustration saying, "You can tell it's a women's house. The toilet seat won't stay up." Overall I was very displeased with his lack of respect for me as a person and assuming that because I am female, I don't know how a car works. TLDR; Bobby the truck driver is borderline misogynistic, very condescending, and whined about my bathroom after I let him into my home to use it. read more

So, I parked at the Chipotle and Cold stone parking lot as I just wanted to run into Chipotle to grab food to go. Since all the 10 minute spots were full I just decided to park in a pay to park spot. I understand I should have payed but since I was only gone for about 5 minutes I decided to risk it. It sucked that my car was already in the beginning processes of being towed when I returned 5 minutes later. The problem wasn't that I was getting towed, because I should have payed for parking... the problem was that when I got there the employee was extremely unprofessional, rude and sarcastic. It took me a lot to get it out of him that I would only have to pay $65 to keep the car or he could take it and I would have to pay $200, because he really only acted like he could take the car. This makes me think either the employee or the Schmers's Towing company only wants to get as much money out of each person possible, which is pretty unethical. He was laughing out loud at me as I got to my car and it shocked me how extremely rude this employee was. I hope no one else ever has to deal with the employee I did. read more
