Hey the Schlossquadrat is an awesome corner of Vienna. And luckily for me, it's my corner of Vienna. This 300 year old complex has survived though the centuries to continue to offer pleasure today. Empress Maria Theresa once tried to start a silk business here by planting mulberry trees. She would have fared better had she started some cool restaurants and pubs.
There is no doubt a lot of people have trouble finding the different entryways to the the Schlossquadrat and its inner courtyards transformed into charming and secluded Schanigartens. Oh well, that's too bad - it just gives the local residents who heavily patronize these culinary establishments more chances for a good table. All the restaurants are worthwhile and all have a Schanigarten ... but the star eating place is Silberwirt. It's truly one of Vienna's finest restaurants with its tasty modern tweaks to some of Vienna's and Austria's classic recipes. The most utilized dining & drinking spot is the ever-cool Cuadro. After a long night out on the town, sleeping in and then going for breakfast at Cuadro in the mid-afternoon is the perfect way to face a new day!
I have recommended to or taken dozens of people to Schlossquadrat. Not one of them has ever been disappointed. It's a Viennese treasure ... or more accurately a hard-to-find hidden quarter of Viennese history replete with great food and drink! read more
