We stayed at Schlosshotel for only one night in November 2024. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the train station. We came in late and it was interesting because there is a self-service kiosk outside like a little ATM vending machine. The check-in process went smoothly and we were able to let ourselves in. This one was recommended by a friend who is Swiss. The hotel has a homey feel which was nice. There was even candy and a guestbook in the lobby. The hotel is sort of castle themed and each floor had different carved wooden chairs. The room was nice and had a very nice view of the castle. We came after the first snow, so the garden was not appreciable under the snow. There is a church nearby and on Sunday morning it was nice to hear the bells calling people. We don't speak Swiss German or German and we had to check-out, so we did not attend the service.
The castle was open and you could walk through it, but the museum portion seemed to be closed for the season. There was a flock of yellow-billed choughs which like castles in addition to monasteries.
The breakfast was nice - it was the most Swiss of the hotels we stayed at. There were no forks at the table and there was a little trash bucket at the center of the table that we had to google its purpose.
I docked a star, because the carpet had accumulated dust in the corners that reminded me of dressing rooms at Ross clothing stores. Also, the bathroom was nice, but the curtains were a little short and water easily came out. Water ended up pooling near the toilet, and because the floor was dark, I did not see the water and ended up soaking the slippers I brought from home. If the curtains were dual layered with a stiff, clear, inner curtain, this might help the problem. read more
