Make sure you have ear plugs and eye masks as you will really need it. The room was hot in July. Had to open windows. No air conditioning. The restaurant and pub is alive and noisy until about 1 am then its the church bells every 30 mins or so. I was so tired and have no sleep. But it was an experience of a lifetime I must say. Place is somewhat clean but it was really not my taste when it comes to hotels. Hostess is friendly and free breakfast was great. I cant really complain.

I can't say enough about how wonderful this hotel is! We stayed over the Christmas holidays as our…read moredelayed honeymoon. The plan was to ski, but when the weather didn't cooperate, the staff at the hotel, namely the receptionist Veronika (?) went out of their way to make sure we were having a great time. She did everything from arranging for a toboggan from another hotel to making regional cocktail suggestions to putting us on a horse-drawn sleigh ride to Austria. As an added plus, the hotel owners - the Zunterer family - hosted a traditional Christmas Eve dinner complete with a Christmas goose, polka, and Christmas carols. Pros: Modern, recently-updated bathroom; Great location on the main town square; treats were waiting for us upon check-in; Yummy continental breakfast with delicious breads as only the Germans can do it; The hotel restaurant gets an A+ for lunch/dinner; Extremely reasonable pricing Cons: Room was typically European, with small dimensions and two twin mattresses pushed together; Wireless internet was only accessible in a common room, not the guest rooms

The service, while rather typically Bavarian stiff, was excellent. I stayed in the new wing where the rooms are more than adequate in size. We had a ground-level room where there was a small porch which led out onto the lawn. This overlooked beautiful woods and the Alps. The views from this property are absolutely stunning. The bathroom had both shower and tub with private and separate toilet area. Bathroom was quite large with heated floor. As is the case with many European hotels the hallways leading to the rooms are a little bit stark and dark. In defense of this practice it is energy-efficient. The main attraction of this hotel is the spa area which is expansive and beautiful. The spa is focused on relaxation with multiple pools of varying temperature and multiple sauna areas, both steam and dry. Numerous spa treatments are available including various forms of massage. However, the deep tissue massage I had was only fair to good. Check in advance as some of the spa treatment selections were not available but listed. There is a large restaurant where breakfast lunch and dinner is served. The service as noted above is excellent. The food was excellent with a focus on more health items including gluten-free choices, not typical in this area of Germany. Also included with your room rate an afternoon juice bar area. WiFi was included with room rate and was robust as far as band width. This is probably related to recent infrastructure upgrades in anticipation of G8 meeting scheduled at the hotel next year. While not extremely expensive in the summer months I cannot comment what this hotel would charge in the winter time. I do suspect that the rates are much higher as this hotel would be an absolutely perfect base for skiing the multiple Alpine resorts in this area. I highly recommend this hotel and plan to return.

I made reservations via email in German before I left - we only wanted to stay 1 night, so we were unable to guarantee between a double room & an apartment, but the price difference was pretty minimal. When we arrived, the daughter who runs the hotel was gone but her mother was around. She speaks some English...enough to do a transaction if necessary, but she noticed that I could speak enough German to get along so we stuck with that. Surprisingly she thought I was French! Anyways, she showed us to our room and then went to find our room key. A few minutes later, she was back with the key and a small English map of Mittenwald. She quickly gave us the 2 minute tour recommendation and some restaurant options for dinner and then left us to explore. We ended up with an apartment, the Schmalzer. It has a double bed, a futon, a shower/WC and a small kitchen (which we did not use since it was only 1 night). It would comfortably sleep four and was very clean! But the best part of the room was the VIEW! The balcony had two chairs and a tiny table, and if I didn't already know how wonderful the rest of Mittenwald was, I probably would have spent the rest of our trip out on that balcony. There's a gorgeous view of the Karwendel and the creek from this 2nd story apartment. A quick 5-10 minute walk into the historic center makes the Edlhuber very convenient for those wanting to explore Mittenwald. After a good night's sleep, we woke up to a very nice breakfast and met the daughter. We sneaked out pretty early as we had a long day planned, but I would have loved to spend the morning on that balcony. 70 euros for the apartment - though if a double room would have been available, it would have been only 64 euros.

On top of that it is in a beautiful location, just a bit away from town center. The sounds of babbling streams and sights of amazing mountains outside make it more enchanting.
